Chapter 150 If we still can't forget each other, then let's be together.

Chapter 150 If we still can't forget each other, then let's be together.

The elevator stopped on the basement level. Assistant Shao pressed the button, and Lin Zaoyi and others followed Tan Zhaojing, who was carrying the child, inside.

Her hand reached for the keypad, and the hand with its distinct knuckles moved in front of her. She turned her head, and just then, he looked over. They stared at each other for a moment, and Lin Zaoyi turned back without changing her expression. Her hand, which had been suspended in mid-air, passed over him and landed on the number 12.

The elevator slowly ascended, the atmosphere was far from pleasant, dull and suffocating, but thankfully the baby's babbling made it a little easier to bear.

Lin Zaoyi's clothes were tugged by a very light force. She turned her head and saw a small, tender hand on her shirt, playing with it. The other hand was put in its mouth, and it was eating while smiling at her.

Despite her jealousy, at this moment, her heart softened unconsciously, and she subconsciously touched the baby's little face. The baby laughed even harder, drool dripping from the corner of her mouth.

There were tissues in my bag. I took one out and was about to wipe her face when I paused. How could she, an outsider, touch someone else's child?

"Baby, let your dad wipe his drool."

Assistant Shao abruptly turned his gaze away, then quickly looked back, because he wanted to laugh but was afraid of his boss's glare. He touched his nose to cover it and laughed silently.

Lin Zaoyi was completely oblivious to anything amiss. Even now, she could still manage a smile, so her expression was flawless when she looked at that person. However, what puzzled her was that Tan Zhaojing's originally indifferent expression had become sharp, as if covered with a layer of autumn frost, and imbued with an indescribable scrutiny.

Why are you staring at her like that?

Fierce fart.

bite--

The elevator announced that it had reached the 12th floor. Lin Zaoyi had no time to analyze the man's sudden mood. She handed the tissue he hadn't taken to Assistant Shao, who took it, and she stepped out.

She stood incredibly straight until the stairwell doors behind her slowly closed, at which point she lost most of her strength, her forward steps halted, and she turned around to find only the cold stairwell doors in her field of vision.

Inside the elevator.

Assistant Shao's eyes were fixed on his own boss. Luckily it wasn't nighttime, otherwise, with his dark expression, he definitely wouldn't have been able to find him.

It wasn't that he was unwilling to explain, but time was short, and it would seem deliberate to suddenly say that he wasn't the boss's child. Besides, he knew very well that Ming would be the one to speak for him.

Mingxian was puzzled by Zhaojing's sudden appearance with a child, but her doubts were quickly dispelled by Assistant Shao's few words.

How could I not understand?

Perfect timing, I'm not busy this afternoon, I have time to take care of the kids. "Zhaojing, you go ahead and get busy."

Tan Zhaojing nodded, "I'll come over at five o'clock, and the child's father will probably finish his work around six."

On his way back to the company, President Shen sent him a video call, but his daughter was nowhere to be seen. He frowned and asked, "Where is my daughter?"

"It's with Aunt Ming."

Mr. Shen was taken aback at first, then chuckled speechlessly, "You're quite the charmer, using my daughter to coax your mother-in-law."

Tan Zhaojing's furrowed brows unconsciously relaxed. "Is there anything else?"

Mr. Shen was on his way to the other company and wasn't very busy. "There's something I'd like to ask you."

Tan Zhaojing replied simply and decisively, "Speak."

"I remember you said back then you wouldn't follow in my footsteps, so now—"

Beep beep beep—

The busy signal caught him off guard. President Chen paused for half a second, then chuckled, resting his forehead on his hand. He typed a message with one hand: "Is that all the tolerance you have?"

Tan Zhaojing deleted the message immediately.

Assistant Shao, who was driving, glanced at his boss during a break, and coincidentally, the boss looked up at him.

Then, I heard him say, "Is she heartless, or does she just not care?"

Assistant Shao naturally knew who the boss was referring to when he said "she." In fact, sometimes being heartless and indifferent mean the same thing.

But he knew that what President Tan wanted to hear was not either of those two sentences. Recalling Miss Lin's expression earlier, it was impeccable, except when she got out of the car and called him, the next second after she turned around, there was a strong emotion overflowing in her eyes, as if she was about to cry.

But afterwards, he did indeed appear indifferent.

"Difficult to answer?" Not receiving an immediate response, Tan Zhaojing opened his mouth wearily, "Weren't you quite capable? Why are you so quiet now?"

"It's not hard to answer."

Assistant Shao pondered for a moment, "I'm assessing the extent of Miss Lin's discomfort."

In a rhetorical question, he asked, "Mr. Tan, Miss Lin has been by your side for so long, don't you know what kind of temper she has?"

If you think about it carefully, it hasn't been long. Most of the time, the boss is pursuing them, or they're shamelessly trying to get attention.

I can't say that, otherwise I won't be able to leave work on time.

A low snort came from the boss beside me, “I know, you have a terrible temper, so bad it’s beyond description.”

The tone sounded mostly helpless, yet also carried a hint of unknowing affection.

Then I heard him ask, "Do you think she's let go?"

Assistant Shao felt that there was no such thing, but it was just a feeling; he couldn't be sure.

He risked his life to suggest, "If you've truly let go, shouldn't you also consider letting go? Mr. Tan, you seem to be two years older than me, right? Look, I'm already married, you...you..."

He trailed off, but in the rearview mirror, the boss's sharp eyes could have turned him into a matchstick.

He awkwardly looked away, gazed out the window, and gave a dry laugh. "I was just saying it casually, just take it with a grain of salt."

Mr. Tan didn't respond, so he wisely kept quiet as well.

On the other side of the city.

Just as Lin Zaoyi had calmed down, her mother called her to her office. When the door opened, the grandmother and granddaughter got along well.

She walked around the coffee table and sat down at a relatively far distance; at the moment, she was not yet able to be completely at ease.

The mother looked over and asked, "Why are you sitting so far away?"

"hot."

She came up with a flimsy excuse: "It's well-ventilated here."

"Really?" A deeper meaning appeared in her eyes. "Are you sure you're not just jealous?"

Lin Zaoyi was more than just jealous; she was heartbroken. She swallowed hard, choking back the bitterness. "Mom, if there's nothing else, I'll go get back to work."

"Are you stupid?" Mingxian sat down next to her, holding the child. "Take a good look, how does she resemble Zhaojing?"

Lin Zaoyi glanced up, her eyes, which had been filled with sorrow, instantly clearing. "Not...his daughter?"

She didn't know how to describe her feelings at that moment. Call it despicable or selfish, but at this moment, she was so glad that he wasn't married.

Mingxian teased the baby in her arms, "Of course not."

I'll stop here and not say anything more, nor will I interfere. Whether they stay together or separate, it's up to them.

Too many things have changed in the past two years. She can't be sure if the relationship between the two children is still the same as before. There may be lingering feelings, but it's possible that obsession is at play. Once she gets a response, the relationship may just fall apart.

If we still can't forget each other, then let's be together.

The old man no longer poses a threat, and besides, how could she, as his mother, possibly make her daughter compromise again?
