Chapter 17 All Conscience Has Been Eaten by Dogs

Chapter 17 All Conscience Has Been Eaten by Dogs

With most of Meng Henian's attention focused on the half-acquainted brother and sister, he could be pretty sure of the situation.

A dark glint flashed in his eyes, but it was fleeting. He composed himself and smiled as if nothing had happened. "Zhaojing is fine. Isn't Zaoyi afraid of you enough?"

After a few jokes, everyone got up and walked towards the front hall.

Lin Zaoyi followed along, while Mr. Solo lagged a few steps behind, landing to her right, as if chatting casually, "Why do I feel like you're quite familiar with Tan?"

Where is it familiar?

We've only been getting to know each other properly for less than half a month.

She replied, "It might be because of the neighbors."

Someone came over to talk to Solo, but she was quickly pushed aside.

No problem, the interview is coming up soon, no need to fawn over them anymore.

Let's go find something to eat.

Just as she was about to turn and move towards the food counter, Tan Zhaojing appeared behind her without her noticing. Startled, she instinctively took half a meter back. "Is...something wrong?"

The man glanced at her and said, "You broke off the relationship pretty quickly."

It seems they heard it.

Lin Zaoyi also sensed the unspoken meaning behind his words from his slightly mocking gaze.

They've completely lost their conscience.

You've been wronged.

To be honest, I just didn't want to cause you any trouble.

Tan Zhaojing asked, "What trouble?"

It was already a problem; she knew that Solo had agreed to the interview so readily because of Tan Zhaojing.

With a smile, she asked, "Brother Zhaojing, do you want to get something to eat?"

Then I heard him let out a cold laugh through his nose, "You've mixed up the mud pretty quickly."

If you're thinking of making excuses, you should just shut up.

The phone rang at that moment.

Tan Zhaojing glanced at the screen and then pointed towards the food counter, saying, "Go and eat first."

He put the phone to his ear and walked towards the banquet hall's terrace.

Just as the call ended, Meng Henian appeared in their field of vision. "Zaoyi, right?"

Without any context, Tan Zhaojing understood, "When did you become so gossipy?"

Meng Henian's lips curled into a faint smile as he gazed into the boundless night. "What's your next step?"

Tan Zhaojing frowned for a moment, not because of those words, but because of He Nian's emotions. He paused for two seconds, then said, "You seem to be concerned about something different."

Meng Henian was slightly taken aback. "How did you know?"

Tan Zhaojing didn't delve into it further, saying, "What else can we do? Just do what needs to be done."

After saying that, he stepped into the hall.

At the food counter, Lin Zaoyi was picking through a pile of food. In the fruit section, just as she was about to pick up a strawberry, a voice in her ear warned, "That one is sour."

She turned her head, her reaction somewhat slow, until the other person said again, "I just tried it. You can try it if you're not afraid of sourness."

President Ji was indeed speaking to her.

She smiled faintly, "I'm not afraid of sourness."

I picked up two in a row.

Tan Zhaojing walked over and gestured to a pile of bottles and jars in the corner of the kitchen counter, "There's vinegar over there."

Lin Zaoyi: "...Okay."

Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that President Ji was nearby and added, "Thank you, President Tan."

Tan Zhaojing did not respond.

Ji Baishen glanced at it subtly, then looked away in an instant.

Lin Zaoyi was quite hungry at the moment, so she asked the chef to cook her a bowl of noodles with vinegar, which was a perfect dinner for her.

Everyone else was busy socializing, but she was the only one who acted like a customer.

Qiao Jie messaged me: "Zaoyi, are President Tan and President Ji here?"

Lin Zaoyi had a bad feeling. [Hmm…]

Sister Qiao: [The Ji Group is celebrating its 20th anniversary of listing, and it's also partnering with the Tan Group. The Tan Group will acquire a stake in Ji Group's new energy subsidiary, becoming its second-largest shareholder. Would you like to do a special report on this?]

She was very grateful to Sister Qiao for thinking so highly of her. It wasn't a matter of whether she wanted to or not, but whether the other party would give her a chance.

I raised my head and caught a glimpse of that tall, slender figure with a quick glance. He was holding a wine glass, his expression indifferent, and a slight smile would appear at the corners of his mouth when he was talking to someone.

Ji Baishen was also nearby, wearing a dark suit, exuding a cool and aloof aura.

Either of these two individuals, taken individually, exudes an imposing aura; now, standing together, their combined presence is terrifyingly powerful.

A beautiful figure appeared in her field of vision. Yuan Lai walked between the two men. They were far enough apart that she couldn't hear what they were talking about, but just by looking at her, Yuan Lai appeared elegant, beautiful, and poised, perfectly matching their aura.

Put away your observation and return to the screen. [I'll try my best.]

She'll try her best to get to President Ji, but as for Tan Zhaojing, she'll probably give up. Putting aside the fact that he never gives interviews and doesn't treat her like a younger sister, she can't just bring it up rashly.

...

Around 11 p.m., Lin Zaoyi emerged from the glitz and glamour of the night. In the lobby, the manager greeted her and handed her her small suitcase. "Ms. Lin, I have packed your things."

Thank you.

The manager smiled and shook his head. "It's my duty."

With the boss personally making the arrangements, how could I dare to neglect them?

Lin Zaoyi didn't park her car in the garage because her reversing skills were too poor, so she asked the parking attendant to help her park it in the outdoor parking lot.

It was difficult for him not to mind that she was riding a small electric scooter.

She pressed the car key twice, and two short beams of light cleaved through the night. She got in, and less than half a minute later, she pushed the car door open again.

It's out of power; I forgot to charge it last night.

Carrying his suitcase, he walked towards the roadside.

Luxury cars drove out of the garage one after another, with Ji Baishen's car sandwiched among them. His gaze inadvertently swept across the street and caught sight of a slender figure standing at the street corner.

"Pull over to the side of the road ahead."

The driver should get off.

He turned the steering wheel, but it was too late. A car with consecutive license plates stopped in front of the girl. He recognized the owner of the car, "President Ji, this is President Tan's car."

Ji Baishen hummed in agreement. "Let's go."

As he passed by, he subconsciously glanced out the window; a white skirt flashed by, and the girl got into the car.

Despite having ridden in his car several times, Lin Zaoyi remained nervous. No matter what, being polite wouldn't be a mistake.

"Thank you for your trouble, Brother Zhaojing."

Tan Zhaojing's thin eyelids twitched, his gaze slowly falling on her. After scrutinizing her for a few seconds, he parted his lips slightly, "Not calling me President Tan anymore?"

The tone of his voice was ambiguous, but Lin Zaoyi took it literally and said, "Shouting for a talk is fine too."

Trying to negotiate, he said, "How about we call you Brother Zhaojing from now on? My mom and Uncle Tan will call you Brother Zhaojing, what do you think?"

She was met with silence.

If he doesn't say anything, take it as a yes.
