Chapter 29 Holding Me

Chapter 29 Holding Me

When Lin Zaoyi woke up, she still clearly remembered how stupid she had been last night.

Subconsciously, he wanted to escape, but he knew he couldn't, at least not for now, since the car keys were still in his possession.

I washed up and went downstairs.

She was the last one there today; even the usually slow-moving Tan Jiani was already seated in the restaurant.

The aunt brought over some wontons, along with a dish of vinegar. She thanked her.

Tan Jiani finished eating, wiped her mouth with a tissue, and said, "Brother, let's go."

No rush.

Tan Jiani thought they were dealing with work, but after waiting for almost ten minutes, she found out it was about Lin Zaoyi. She was very unhappy and asked, "Brother, are you alright?"

Her brother glanced at her indifferently and said, "If you think it's too slow, you can drive yourself."

She gave a cold scoff. "You swore you didn't treat Lin Zaoyi like a sister just a few days ago?"

Once inside the car, I slammed the door shut.

The noise was so loud that Lin Zaoyi couldn't help but close her eyes. She had no intention of hitching a ride. "Brother Zhaojing, give me back my car keys. I'll just take a taxi."

He didn't give it to her; instead, he subtly moved his long fingers and dialed a number.

Two minutes later, the driver arrived.

Tan Zhaojing handed over the car keys, saying, "You take Jia Ni there."

Between the two, Lin Zaoyi chose the driver, saying, "Brother Zhaojing, please let the driver take me."

Tan Zhaojing: "They're all the same."

She knocked on the car window, which rolled down. Tan Jiani resisted rolling her eyes. "Are you my real brother?"

The older brother, who was usually too lazy to explain, surprisingly said a few more words, "Don't be stubborn, I'm going to the branch office today, which isn't on your way."

snort.

So what? She still hates Lin Zaoyi.

Goodbye, don't bother seeing me out.

The two cars left the courtyard one after the other.

The car that started up overtook them in less than half a minute, turned the steering wheel, and drove onto the main road.

After thinking it over, Lin Zaoyi still said thank you, even though she was tired of saying those two words.

This time, Tan Zhaojing responded, "No need."

"Don't worry about the car keys yet, I'll have someone bring the car over for you around noon."

She wanted to say thank you again, but held back and changed it to, "Then I'll have to trouble Brother Zhaojing."

There was no response.

She also kept quiet.

Two quiet roads, then the phone rang, and the screen displayed Sun Yao.

She hung up.

The opponent continued to attack.

Tan Zhaojing asked, "Harassing phone calls?"

"Um."

She muted the phone and let it vibrate, but little did she know that Sun Yao would harass her in different ways, even switching to video calls.

"Your harassing phone calls even include adding me on WeChat."

Faced with such an obviously teasing tone, Zao Yi pouted unhappily, "Brother Zhaojing, can you please stop making fun of me?"

"This is considered a run on me? What about when you touch me?"

"..."

What does that have to do with anything...?

You shouldn't complain.

"It's not touching..."

What is that?

It sounded like a follow-up question, but the tone was somewhat nonchalant, as if it were just a casual remark.

"Of course, it's the 'helping' department."

He chuckled softly, his tone unreadable.

She was quite something, earnestly assuring him, "Brother Zhaojing, don't worry, I will never have any ulterior motives towards you."

Seeing her sincerity, the man stopped, but for no apparent reason, his aura seemed to cool down.

She naturally wouldn't ask any more questions.

A short while later, the car stopped in front of the newspaper office.

Tan Zhaojing pointed his finger at the windshield while resting on the steering wheel. "Is it for you?"

Lin Zaoyi paused in unbuckling her seatbelt, looked over, and frowned slightly upon seeing who it was. "Hmm."

Tan Zhaojing asked, "The one you're harassing by phone?"

"Um."

Need help?

She blinked. "How can I help?"

As he was asking the question, the man suddenly unbuckled his seatbelt, and the next second, he leaned over and pressed down on him.

She never expected that his "help" would be in this way. As the shadow fell, her nose was brushed lightly, startling her, and a blush crept onto the tip of her ear.

Just as I was feeling lost, his soft, magnetic voice came from above me, "Hold me tight."

Upon hearing this, he almost ran away from home.

"Need not……"

Tan Zhaojing's gaze fell on her lowered eyelashes. "Want to continue being harassed?"

Lin Zaoyi shook her head.

"If you don't want to, then hug me."

"I dare not..."

"I agree."

Lin Zaoyi shook her head again, her fingers twisting helplessly around the seatbelt fastened to her chest. She swallowed hard, "It's already working."

"What if it's not enough?"

That's enough...

Looking out the window, Sun Yao was nowhere to be seen; he must have left.

She held her breath, suppressing the inexplicable pounding in her chest, "Brother Zhaojing, that's about enough."

Tan Zhaojing's gaze remained fixed on her. Even without eye contact, the frequency of her blinking was enough to convey her eagerness to escape.

Are you that scared?

He gently touched the top of her head, as if to restrain himself, and said, "Call me if anything happens."

As the figure disappeared, Lin Zaoyi hurriedly opened the car door, gave a perfunctory "hmm," and said, "Bye-bye."

The sound landed, and the person was thrown half a meter away. It wasn't until they entered the building that Lin Zaoyi slowed down, and her fluctuating heart gradually calmed down.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of her, blocking her way.

It's like a persistent ghost.

"What's up?"

Sun Yao: We should talk here.

Lin Zaoyi didn't think there was anything worth talking to him about, but she knew that if she left like this, Sun Yao would definitely follow her to the newspaper office. Not only would everyone know about it, but she might also get a scolding from her superiors and disrupt the work environment.

I didn't go far; I moved to the stairwell.

"Speak."

Why didn't you answer the phone?

Do you really need to ask such a simple question?

Lin Zaoyi simply stated directly, "Because I don't want to answer."

Sun Yao scoffed, "Did you get the exclusive interview? Did that man give it to you? How many times did you sleep with him?"

If you can't get it, you slander it.

Lin Zaoyi remained calm, saying, "It has nothing to do with you."

"Unrelated?" As if provoked, the refined features before him twisted in shock. "I've been chasing you for so long and you're telling me it's unrelated?!"

Lin Zaoyi has a clear conscience, saying, "I never responded to you."

Sun Yao's brows furrowed with malice. "You didn't respond to me and then turned around and slept with another man. I thought you were so innocent, but you're nothing special. By the way, he probably hasn't slept with you, has he?"

Lin Zaoyi was taken aback. "What do you mean?"

"Stop pretending."

Sun Yao's contemptuous gaze swept over her body, "Acting like a virgin."

His face turned pale, and his lips trembled uncontrollably. He had drugged him that night!

"You won't admit it? I'm quite curious where you're hiding." The devil's voice rang in my ears.

Lin Zaoyi suppressed the turmoil in her heart, a chill spreading between her brows, "Where I hide is none of your business! Sun Yao, you'll get your comeuppance!"

Sun Yao sneered, "Fine, I'll wait and see if this is retribution or if I'm just toying with you!"
