Chapter 67 Let me go in and coax her
Lin Zaoyi felt wronged and annoyed, and now she was also embarrassed and speechless because of someone calling her "sister-in-law".
In short, I have mixed feelings.
Amidst a mix of emotions, the strongest was annoyance. She took a few steps toward Tan You, stood up beside him, and looked at him expressionlessly.
“Although I’ve never called Tan You ‘brother,’ I’ve always treated him like a brother. So, the ‘sister-in-law’ you’re talking about doesn’t exist at all. If we’re really going to argue, you should call him brother.”
Hearing this, Tan You was overjoyed, and his previously speechless face suddenly broke into a smile.
He patted the girl on the back of the head approvingly, "Not bad, you didn't make me worry for nothing."
Tan Zhaojing let out a cold laugh.
He strode over to this traitor and forcefully pulled her ear, saying, "Ask Tan You if I dare to shout, and if he dares to answer."
"Why wouldn't I dare?" Tan You retorted fearlessly, wanting to retort defiantly, but he chickened out when he met his cousin's glare.
He acted generously, saying, "Whatever, I don't necessarily need to be this brother."
He pulled Zaoyi back and said, "Be careful not to let the housekeeper or servants notice."
As soon as he finished speaking, the butler approached.
Lin Zaoyi took another big step back without making a sound, even though there was already a meter of space between them.
Tan Zhaojing glanced back indifferently, "Looking for me?"
The butler nodded.
The two walked together toward the front hall.
On the way, the butler advised, "The old man is getting on in years, so please give way and let him see him first."
Tan Zhaojing said frankly, "It has nothing to do with age, Uncle Zhao. Some things will go smoothly for me, but some things will not, such as marriage."
Steward Zhao was caught in a dilemma. One was someone he had served for many years, and the other was someone he had watched grow up. For him, both were matters of affection.
I have a vague guess: "Is there a girl he likes?"
Tan Zhaojing stated bluntly, "Yes."
Butler Zhao was somewhat surprised. "Not among the old master's choices?"
He must not be there, otherwise he wouldn't have fallen out with the old man.
Even before it happened, he had already foreseen that the grandfather and grandson would cause a huge uproar in the future.
He asked cautiously, "Is it really that girl?"
Tan Zhaojing: "It has to be her."

Ten minutes before lunchtime, the two returned to the inner room. The old man was probably not there, as the atmosphere in the living room was alright.
Hearing footsteps, Tan Zhaojing raised his eyes slightly, put down his crossed legs, and leaned over to pour himself a cup of herbal tea. "You'll be gone for several hours, have some water."
Lin Zaoyi dared not, and could not, respond.
Tan You took the blame, saying, "We forgot about it as soon as we started talking."
He sat down on the sofa, pulled Zaoyi next to him, and took the cup of tea his cousin poured and brought it to his lips.
Surprisingly, it tastes pretty good.
He gestured with his chin, "Brother, pour Zaoyi a cup, she's thirsty too."
Lin Zaoyi: "...I'll do it myself."
He reached for the teapot, and even faster, two fingers hooking the handle, and the fragrant water slowly poured out from the spout.
The cup was half full, and the man held it by the side as he handed it over, saying, "It's warm."
"Thank you, Brother Zhaojing."
She reached for it, but he didn't let go. He lightly touched the back of her hand with his fingertips, as if to comfort her.
But she was frightened, her heart trembled, and she glanced at him in a panic. The next moment, the teacup landed safely in her hand.
My heart, which had been pounding, slowly calmed down.
No one noticed this small gesture, but the few who were unaware of it were surprised by Zhaojing's initiative to pour tea.
Madam Tan was truly surprised. Had Zhaojing suddenly changed his personality?
Normally, the son is the one who is suppressed.
Tan You finished his glass and held out the empty glass, saying, "Brother, continue."
Tan Zhaojing didn't move, but slowly glanced at him.
Tan You laughed, "Hurry up, what are you dawdling for?"
Madam Tan immediately kicked her son, "Don't you have hands?"
Tan You still smiled, "Mom, you don't understand."
Tan Zhengli glanced at his nephew and said, "Don't get cocky. Zhaojing has a temper."
Tan You wasn't afraid. "Uncle, Zao Yi is my sister."
Tan Zhengli chuckled, "Then you'll have to see if Zhaojing acknowledges it."
Those who don't understand this will still not understand it.
Tan Jia Ni, who was playing a game in landscape mode, was distracted by what she heard. "Uncle, what are you talking about?"
Tan Zhengli: "It's okay, you can play."
A commotion came from the study on the first floor. The group turned their attention to the old man, who was leaning on his cane, and they all stood up.
Lin Zaoyi lagged behind, minimizing her presence as much as possible.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunion, but the meal at the Tan family's house felt anything but warm, probably because someone was going against the old man.
After a brief silence, the old man spoke up, "Is it that you don't want to make a decision, or what?"
This question was naturally directed at Tan Zhaojing.
After a moment's hesitation, Tan Zhaojing said, "I have my own plans for the marriage."
The chopsticks were slammed onto the table with a sound that was neither too loud nor too soft, but everyone could already sense the old man's anger.
He asked in a deep voice, "What are your plans?"
Tan Zhaojing said calmly, "There are no plans for a marriage alliance."
As soon as the words fell to the ground, the restaurant fell silent, the atmosphere instantly freezing cold.
Tan's father became suspicious. He thought that Zhao Jing's rejection meant he had a girl he liked. He was about to say something when he caught a glimpse of his wife sitting nearby, and he swallowed back all the words he was about to say.
That's enough.
Why let your son repeat his mistakes?
The meal was rather somber. Before getting up, the old man uttered, "Whether we hold a wedding ceremony or not is not up to you!"
After saying that, he took the butler's arm and left.
Tan You sighed softly, first glancing at his cousin's face, which was icy cold, then turning his gaze to Zao Yi, whose head was bowed and whose expression was unreadable.
Lin Zaoyi patted her gently, quickly composed herself, and asked, "Want to go play ball?"
Without hesitation, Tan You said, "Okay."
After driving for a while, Lin Zaoyi said to Tan You, "Can we change clubs?"
The reason is self-evident. Tan You turned the car around and said, "Okay."
Lin Zaoyi stared at the buildings rushing past outside the car window. "Don't answer the phone either, okay?"
Tan You hummed in agreement, "I'll mute it in a bit."
From 1:30 to 6:00, the two were out of contact, and both had missed calls on their phones, all from the same person.
Lin Zaoyi's chest, which had been feeling incredibly tight, was relieved by the exercise, but the relief only lasted until Xiyuan.
Just as the car came to a complete stop, a completely black Maybach drove up and blocked Tan You's car.
After getting out of the car, Lin Zaoyi didn't look back at the figure approaching her. With her back to him, she said in a calm tone, "I'm not angry. I just want to play ball in peace."
The sound landed, and the person stepped out.
The aloof figure stood like an invisible barrier, driving away his indifference. Tan Zhaojing's chest heaved, and his restlessness became tangible in his facial features.
Tan You had no intention of getting out of the car at all. He put it in reverse, backed up a few meters, turned the steering wheel, and smoothly passed his cousin's car.
Upstairs in her second-floor room, Lin Zaoyi came out of the shower and heard someone knocking on the door. She went over, her hand on the doorknob, but she didn't open it. "Who is it?"
"Me." — Tan Zhaojing's voice.
She pursed her lips tightly. "Is something the matter?"
Tan Zhaojing's voice deepened slightly, "Zaoyi, listen to me and open the door first."
Lin Zaoyi only slightly widened the gap by two fingers, "Speak."
"Can I go in and coax him?"
