Chapter 73 I just know how to mess with him
"Is this Zaoyi's boyfriend??"
"Wow, I've never seen consecutive license plates before!"
"..."
The murmurs were deafening, but Lin Zaoyi didn't hear a single word.
The passenger door opened, and not only her, but everyone else turned their attention to it. When they saw who it was, there was a quiet uproar.
The group of overworked office workers who controlled financial trends immediately recognized the man in front of them.
A colleague asked, "Zaoyi, is your boyfriend President Meng?"
Lin Zaoyi was taken aback, but she immediately denied it, saying, "No."
"Huh? Then who is President Meng looking for?" The colleagues exchanged glances and shook their heads.
Lin Zaoyi took a few steps forward, looking bewildered. "Mr. He...Mr. Meng, what brings you here?"
Meng Henian lowered his voice, "Zhaojing is in the car."
Upon hearing this, Lin Zaoyi suddenly looked at the car. The window was halfway down, and in the dim light of the night, she couldn't see the expression on the car's face, but she could feel the dark light falling on her tightening little by little.
She cried out inwardly.
She listened absentmindedly to the group of people behind her who were fawning over her.
Meng Henian raised the corners of his lips slightly, "Everyone, please don't report this indiscriminately, or the Zao Yi family will not let me off the hook."
It may seem like a joke, but it's actually an indirect reminder.
They were all shrewd and perceptive; how could they not realize that the person behind Lin Zaoyi was not only extraordinary, but likely belonged to a social class that was difficult to reach?
Someone couldn't resist the gossip, "Zaoyi, so your boyfriend is...?"
Just then, a very loud roar came from beside him, and then a cool sports car rudely came into view. Before the person got out of the car, the voice arrived first, "Zaoyi!"
Lin Zaoyi: "..."
It wasn't that she discarded him after he had served his purpose; it was just that the timing was bad.
He rushed forward and pressed his hand firmly against the car door to prevent Tan You from getting out.
It was pointless. Tan You had already answered the call. The two cars were not far apart, and the window of Tan Zhaojing's car was always half open. She was standing in the middle, so she could hear it fairly clearly.
Tan Zhaojing said, "Don't get out of the car, hand it over to Meng Henian."
Tan You naturally complied.
Lin Zaoyi felt a little relieved.
"Zaoyi," her colleague called out, winking at her, "is he your boyfriend?"
She shook her head.
Meng Henian walked over and said, "Zaoyi, you take the Zhaojing carriage, I'll go with Tan You."
Lin Zaoyi stood frozen in place, wondering, "Did I do something wrong...?"
Meng Henian told the truth: "It's not a big deal, but he got angry."
Upon hearing this, Lin Zaoyi was even more hesitant to get into the car. "Brother He Nian, I'm scared..."
Meng Henian laughed when he heard this, "Don't worry, I can't eat you."
However, I still have to say, "If you encounter something similar in the future, besides Aunt Ming, the first person you should think of is Zhaojing."
Lin Zaoyi, having learned her lesson, blinked timidly, "I promise I'll change next time. Will you ride in his car this time?"
He Nian, abandoning his usual gentle demeanor, revealed a heart of stone: "No way."
He opened Tan You's car door and got in.
"..."
"What are you dawdling for? Get in the car." The voice that came through was deep and cold.
She lowered her eyes and gave a meek "oh," like a wilted little chick pulling open the passenger door.
A group of people hadn't left yet, their eyes filled with jealousy, envy, displeasure, and malice, except for Xu Qiao, who wore a doting smile.
If I'm not mistaken, the person in the car should be President Tan.
The engine started, coinciding perfectly with the overhead streetlights. In that brief moment, they noticed the deep, cold profile of the person in the driver's seat.
Someone gasped, "Could the driver be Lin Zaoyi's boyfriend?"
The question is, "Why didn't you get off the bus?"
Zhao Qingqing scoffed sourly, "She's being kept by a sugar daddy, she can't show her face in public, right?"
Xu Qiao glanced at him and said, "You've received higher education, so don't speak so rudely."
Zhao Qingqing blushed. Mind your own business!
...
The car drove through the night, and the cold, handsome profile on the car window flickered with the neon lights. Lin Zaoyi wanted to break the silence, but when she met his sharp jaw, she suddenly lost some courage.
He remained silent all the way to the apartment before finally speaking, "Why didn't you call me?"
The clear, deep tone reveals no emotion.
Lin Zaoyi lowered her head and said in a barely audible voice, "You have social engagements."
"Even if I have social engagements, I wouldn't be so busy that I don't even have time to answer a phone call."
In the dimly lit carriage, Tan Zhaojing's eyes were filled with melancholy. "Or did you not even think of me?"
Lin Zaoyi shook her head.
"Say it with your mouth."
"No......"
Tan Zhaojing tried his best to remain calm, but his gaze still inadvertently betrayed his emotions. "I called you, what did you say?"
Silence fell in my ears.
He didn't urge him.
After a long while, the girl slowly raised her head and said, "Tan You had already arrived by then, so I felt there was no need to bring it up again."
He laughed, stung by those words. "Is it unnecessary, or did you never even think of me from the beginning?"
Lin Zaoyi: "Neither."
After a half-second pause, she continued, "I just felt it wasn't appropriate to call you that."
The man looked over, his eyes filled with deep understanding. "Is Tan You suitable?"
She frowned slightly. "You can't be prejudiced. You know perfectly well that Tan Youjian and I don't have that kind of relationship."
Tan Zhaojing's brows furrowed with worry. "But the first person you thought of was him."
Lin Zaoyi pulled her fingers off her lap and turned her head. The sunlight outside the car made her eyes sting. She took a breath, but before she could adjust herself, the man spoke again.
"So, I'm just a decoration to you?"
"Can you please stop misinterpreting it like that?"
Lin Zaoyi felt her eyes were even more uncomfortable, sore and swollen. "Brother Zhaojing, you—"
“I’m not your brother!” the man interrupted her abruptly.
"That's how it looks to outsiders!"
She turned her head back, her eyes filled with a deep mist, "Tan Zhaojing, this is why I didn't want to call you that!"
......
At night, the lights are dazzling, and the noise fades away.
The living room lights were off, and Lin Zaoyi nestled on the sofa in the dim light streaming in from the window, tears welling up in her eyes. She closed her eyes, but the tears just kept rolling down her cheeks.
The phone rang, and subconsciously I thought it was him, so I was ready to hang up decisively, but it turned out to be Xi Niu.
"Xixi..."
Meng Jinxi was about to ask if they were together, but upon hearing the tearful tone, she changed her words, "Did you quarrel with Brother Zhaojing?"
Lin Zaoyi sniffed, "Hmm..."
"Why?"
As a witness to this affair, Lin Zaoyi did not hide anything and summarized the whole story of what happened that night. Afterwards, she did not forget to examine herself, "Did I do something wrong?"
It's neither right nor wrong.
Meng Jinxi sighed softly, "Tan Zhaojing shouldn't be that petty. They can be all lovey-dovey again tomorrow."
Mentioning tomorrow, Lin Zaoyi remembered it was his birthday. Her thoughts faltered for a few moments, and a bubble of anxiety welled up inside her. Would he give her the cold shoulder...?
It doesn't matter. If he dumps her, she'll dump him even more fiercely.
Downstairs, Tan Zhaojing hadn't left yet. He was sitting in his car, listening to his assistant's report, and his expression grew increasingly grim as he listened.
I can tolerate being taken over my internship and forced to become a full-time employee, but I've already put up with the harassment!
I just know how to be tough with him.
He ordered in a deep voice, "Spread some word to Yu Long's wife; she needs to go to the newspaper office tomorrow morning."
