Chapter 8 The Unyielding Power

Chapter 8 The Unyielding Power

The sound of the engine starting made Sun Yao turn his head. It was just a casual glance, but he was taken aback when he saw the car logo.

Who brought you here?

Lin Zaoyi had no desire to share her family network with outsiders, even though she was the daughter of Ming Xian, the editor-in-chief of Beijing TV, and few people knew it.

He mumbled, "Nobody."

Without changing the subject, I asked, "How did you manage to get a date with Mr. Duan?"

"My dad."

That's not surprising, Sun Yao is the son of an official, and I heard that his father holds a high position of power.

I don't know if President Duan will be able to find the time. Tan Jiani previously said that President Duan was going to the club.

After waiting a few seconds, seeing that Lin Zaoyi didn't seem inclined to respond, Sun Yao took the initiative to speak, "I'd also like to interview anyone who has spoken a single word to my dad."

Lin Zaoyi didn't want to owe anyone too many favors; one favor was enough.

"The editor-in-chief only assigned it to General Manager Duan."

Sun Yao stopped there; being too enthusiastic would only make him seem cheap. He waited for Lin Zaoyi to come and beg him.

Taking the water offered by the waiter, he said, "Mr. Duan is talking to my dad about work right now, let's play first."

Lin Zaoyi doesn't like playing golf, so she found a suitable excuse: "I need to familiarize myself with the information."

Sun Yao was a little disappointed, but not much. "Fine."

Bored while waiting, Lin Zaoyi started browsing the news. For some reason, she typed three words into the search bar: "Tan Zhaojing".

There are indeed no interviews with him, but his financial achievements are so numerous that they can't fit on the entire screen.

She slowly scrolled through the progress bar, and by the time she finished browsing the last item, forty minutes had passed.

After reading it, I couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat. Of all people to mess with, I had to mess with Tan Zhaojing.

Fortunately, he had no recollection of her, so from now on, he just needed to play the role of a fake sister.

Her neck was a little sore, so she rubbed it, stood up from the chair, and strolled around the neighborhood.

Around the corner, I could vaguely hear someone talking. I took a few steps closer and then I could see that it was Duan Lin.

If possible, she would like to try to get an interview herself.

The surroundings were quiet, and even the slightest sound would attract attention. Duan Lin turned his head, and the first thing that caught his eye was a touch of early summer pink and blue.

He narrowed his eyes, feeling that the girl looked somewhat familiar. After a moment of mental searching, he remembered.

I hastily told the person on the other end of the phone that I had something to do and then ended the call.

"It's you."

Lin Zaoyi was surprised. She had met Duan Lin once before, at Uncle Tan and her mother's wedding.

He brazenly stepped forward and said, "Mr. Duan, could I trouble you for a moment?"

Duan Lin raised an eyebrow slightly. "What is it?"

Lin Zaoyi introduced herself as a government employee, "I'm Lin Zaoyi, an intern at CBN (China Business Network). I had an appointment with your secretary before, but because you—"

"stop!"

Duan Lin interrupted her, "Don't be so polite. You are Zhaojing's sister, and also my sister. Just call me brother."

What an easygoing person!

Lin Zaoyi cannot do it.

The other party asked, "An interview, right? Half an hour is fine?"

She was taken aback for half a second by his easy-going manner, but quickly agreed, "Sure, sure!"

I followed him to a private business room.

Before starting, Lin Zaoyi sent a message to Sun Yao, without saying what she was going to do, but just told him that there was no need to introduce him to President Duan, that he could go ahead with his business, and that she would thank him.

Immediately, I turned it to mute.

After the usual opening remarks, we get to the main point.

Because the other party was very cooperative, the entire interview only took 22 minutes.

"Thank you, Mr. Duan."

Duan Lin smiled and said, "I happen to have some free time."

The two left the private room together, and halfway there, they ran into Sun Yao. Before he even got close, Sun Yao asked, "Why are you two together?"

Lin Zaoyi: "I just did an interview with President Duan."

Sun Yao's expression showed surprise, but considering that President Duan was there, he didn't ask too many questions. After introducing himself, he brought up his father's name.

I thought Mr. Duan would take the opportunity to chat for a bit, but he just grunted and walked away.

"..."

She gestured with her chin towards Lin Zaoyi as if trying to save face, "It's alright, that's just how President Duan is."

Lin Zaoyi smiled in response.

Stepping out of the parking lot, Duan Lin dialed Tan Zhaojing's number. "Your sister is with me."

Tan Zhaojing was driving when he casually replied, "I know, Jia Ni told me."

“It’s not Jia Ni,” Duan Lin opened the car door but didn’t start the car yet. “Your other sister, do you know why she’s here?”

Tan Zhaojing's brow twitched slightly. "Hmm?"

Duan Lin chuckled and joked, "Interviewing me? That's interesting. You didn't ask me to do it, but instead asked someone else to make the connection. It seems you're not close to your stepbrother at all. I should remind you, your sister has caught the eye of that guy who came with her today."

The phone went silent.

Duan Lin thought he had been hung up on, so he picked up his phone to check and saw that the call was in progress. "Hello?"

After a two-second pause, Tan Zhaojing asked, "Is there anything else?"

"Yes, you can do it tonight—"

Before he could finish speaking, a busy signal came through his ear.

"..."

That impatient little devil is trying to be reincarnated!

...

The setting sun on the horizon seemed about to disappear without setting.

Lin Zaoyi was in a good mood at first, but she got a little annoyed when Sun Yao asked her for the third time how to get Duan Lin to agree.

"Sun Yao, do you suspect I used some methods?"

Sun Yao did indeed have that intention. Lin Zaoyi's beauty wasn't limited to her face; her neck, waist, legs, and even her toes were alluring. Therefore, she didn't need to do anything; men would automatically take the bait.

She gave a forced smile and said, "I was just worried about you, afraid you'd get scammed."

He then added, "To express my apology, I'd like to treat you to a meal."

Lin Zaoyi declined, citing that she was going home to organize her personal materials.

"No, a meal won't take you long,"

Lin Zaoyi still refused.

She hadn't noticed it before, but after today, she had to keep her distance from Sun Yao.

After being rejected several times, Sun Yao began to get annoyed. He never thought he had a good temper, but because of Lin Zaoyi, he restrained himself again and again.

He suppressed his anger. "It's just a meal, why are you being so disrespectful?"

Lin Zaoyi: "My mom is still waiting for me."

Sun Yao: "When can't you eat with your mom?"

Lin Zaoyi said in a calm tone, "It was agreed upon."

It's hard to get a taxi here, but she remembered there was a bus stop ahead. "I'm off now."

Sun Yao suddenly reached out his hand, "If you're not going to eat, you should at least let me take you home, right?"

She instinctively broke free, taking several steps back without thinking, "Really, it's not necessary."

Sun Yao finally couldn't hold back anymore, his tone turning cold, "What are you worried about?"

Just as he was getting restless, a black Pullman suddenly approached, like a black cheetah. He instantly recognized it as the same car that had brought Lin Zaoyi earlier.

The car window rolled down, revealing a stern and imposing face.

The man lifted his eyelids, his gaze was indifferent, yet it sent a chill down Sun Yao's spine.

Lin Zaoyi was quite bewildered by Tan Zhaojing's sudden appearance; he just happened to be passing by.

Or did you pick her up on purpose?

He quickly denied it, and then, as if by magic, he picked her up.

A clear, crisp voice came from beside me: "Get in the car."

These two simple words, spoken by him, carried a completely different meaning, imbued with an indescribable forcefulness.
