Chapter 90 Mingxian became suspicious. Was her daughter with Zhaojing?

Chapter 90 Mingxian became suspicious. Was her daughter with Zhaojing?

In her office, Lin Zaoyi rushed to finish the interview transcript during her break.

While she was busy, someone approached. To be precise, it was the scent of perfume that reached her first. She didn't particularly like the smell, so she unconsciously frowned and her attention was drawn to it. "Is something wrong?"

Fu Sipei, ever the friendly type, sat down near her and said, "I wanted to ask how you got the interview with Meng's."

Lin Zaoyi returned her gaze to the computer and casually replied, "Just run around a few more times."

It was clearly a perfunctory response.

Fu Sipei inwardly scoffed, "Can you share your experience? Or are you afraid of something?"

Lin Zaoyi was puzzled and looked over again, distracted. "What am I afraid of?"

Fu Sipei: "I'm afraid I'll learn from you and steal your resources."

Lin Zaoyi laughed when she heard this.

The other person seemed displeased, their eyebrows suddenly rising sharply. "What are you laughing at?"

She said frankly, "It's funny to laugh at you."

Fu Sipei suddenly stood up, "If you don't want to share, then don't share! Why are you swearing at me!"

Lin Zaoyi: "??? What did I say?"

A colleague looked over and asked, "What's wrong with you guys?"

Fu Sipei pouted, looking aggrieved, "Lin Zaoyi scolded me..."

Lin Zaoyi wasn't going to suffer in silence. She relayed the entire conversation between the two of them, not expecting them to say anything fair, but also not to try and pin the blame on her.

My colleague was willing to help, and when he heard that there was nothing wrong with it, he laughed it off, saying, "Okay, okay, I thought it was something serious."

Lin Zaoyi ignored her and went about her business. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see two colleagues surrounding Fu Sipei, one handing her water and the other patting her on the shoulder to comfort her.

This world really does depend on connections.

She won't repeat the mistakes she made at CBN; if necessary, she'll bring out the editor-in-chief of Mingda University to put him to the test.

During afternoon tea, Lin Zaoyi's phone beeped as her mother called her to come upstairs.

When I knocked and came in, there was a guest in my mother's office. The lady was dressed elegantly and had a graceful demeanor.

Ms. Ying had just arrived a few minutes earlier. She happened to be running errands nearby and came to visit her friend.

She smiled and looked at the girl standing at the door. "Zaoyi, do you remember me?"

Lin Zaoyi vaguely remembered seeing her at her mother's wedding. She greeted her politely, "Hello, Auntie."

"good."

With guests present, Mingxian didn't chat with her daughter. Instead, she pointed to a row of small desserts and said, "Go and eat by yourself."

Lin Zaoyi didn't disturb her, and casually picked up a piece, saying, "Then please sit for a while, Auntie. I'll go and get back to work."

"Okay." After the door closed, Ms. Ying asked her friend, "Does Zaoyi have a boyfriend?"

Mingxian replied, "She told me no."

“Then no,” Ms. Ying said, intrigued. “Would you like to become in-laws with me?”

Mingxian: "You mean... Bai Shen?"

Ms. Ying is an open-minded person who speaks frankly, especially since they are longtime friends. "Yes, what do you think?"

Mingxian smiled and said, "My opinion is not important; it depends on the child."

"Easy."

Ms. Ying immediately decided, "I'll let the two children meet this weekend."

Mingxian: "Don't panic. Zaoyi is going out to play this weekend. I'll ask her when she gets back."

...

Five minutes before the end of the workday, Lin Zaoyi's interview transcript was approved by the editor-in-chief. Normally, she wouldn't feel anything, but at this moment, the three words "no problem" on the email felt so pleasant.

When the time came, I put on my small backpack.

Before she had even left the office area, Fu Sipei called out to her, seemingly deliberately, in a rather loud voice, "Lin Zaoyi, you're already off work?"

Lin Zaoyi turned around expressionlessly. "Is there something you need?"

Fu Sipei smiled innocently, "Everyone's still here, aren't you going to ask if anyone needs help?"

Lin Zaoyi sneered inwardly, no longer caring whether she offended him or not. From the moment Fu Sipei took over her identity, it was clear that this person was not someone to be trusted, and she shouldn't give him any face.

"You should say that to yourself: What were you doing before? If I'm not mistaken, playing a landscape game, right?"

Fu Sipei probably didn't expect her to retaliate so decisively, raising her voice, "Who's playing games!"

"Oh, so that means watching videos."

Having said that, ignoring the other person's angry glare, he turned on his toes and headed straight for the parking lot.

The driver parked the car in the usual spot and kept his eyes on the elevator entrance while waiting. As soon as the figure appeared, he got out of the car and opened the back door.

Lin Zaoyi smiled and nodded, "Thank you."

The car started, and a white Mercedes-Benz drove off with it. Mingxian sat in the driver's seat, glancing casually out the window, but less than half a second later she turned back to look out the window because a black Pullman flashed past her eyes. It was too familiar. By the time she looked at the license plate again, the car had already merged into the traffic and she couldn't tell which one was which.

Just then, the phone rang; it was Lao Tan.

She connected via Bluetooth.

Tan's father: "Are you off work? I'll be waiting for you at LOM Jewelry. The necklace you liked has arrived."

"Okay, we'll be there in about half an hour. Don't just sit there, pick out a few for Jia Ni."

LOM Jewelry's headquarters are in Haicheng, and this is a branch in northern Beijing. The people who received us today are the regional managers.

When we meet, it's like meeting an old friend.

"My dear editor-in-chief, it's been so long since you've visited."

"It won't be long, I'm afraid my wallet can't handle it if I come here too often."

As they spoke, they both laughed.

The new models are neatly displayed on the coffee table in the VIP room. Mingxian only needs to glance at them to feel that they are dazzling. She thinks of the one her daughter is wearing around her neck. It is dazzling, but it is still fake.

Open the picture book that's lying on the side; there's no need to search for it deliberately, the first page is it.

She asked the manager, "How long will it take to order this one?"

The manager was slightly taken aback. "Didn't you already have one?"

This stumped Mingxian. "When did I buy it?"

The manager glanced subconsciously at Director Tan sitting to the side, hoping she wouldn't encounter any dramatic events.

Tan's father realized something, "It must be Zhaojing."

The manager breathed a sigh of relief. "Then it must be President Tan."

After a moment's recollection, I realized, "Isn't Mr. Tan's assistant surnamed Shao? He's the one I'm dealing with."

Mr. Tan nodded, "It was him. He probably bought it for his girlfriend."

What was said in jest was taken seriously by the listener. Mingxian felt a sudden chill run down her spine, and an absurd thought was about to emerge. She tried to comfort herself, thinking it couldn't be such a coincidence, but she had seen that car in the parking lot half an hour ago. It couldn't be ruled out that it wasn't Zhaojing, but it was highly likely to be him.

Then he suddenly remembered that he had gone to Green County Mansion a few nights ago, but found no one there.

One thing might be a coincidence, but what about so many?

Unable to focus on choosing jewelry, Mingxian gestured for the manager to get back to work. Once out of sight, she asked Lao Tan to call Zhaojing.

The father didn't understand, but still did as instructed.

The answer I received was: No reply, I'm away on a business trip.

Mingxian couldn't help but shudder. She hadn't realized it before, but once things started to develop, she discovered too many coincidences, so coincidental that they sent chills down her spine.

Since Zaoyi moved out, Zhaojing no longer lives in Xiyuan. On weekends, when Zaoyi returns, Zhaojing will also return.

This week, Zaoyi was not there, and Zhaojing went on a business trip with her.

Mr. Tan noticed that his wife's expression was off. He took her hand and found it unexpectedly cold. His brows furrowed. "What happened?"

Mingxian couldn't speak, and didn't know how to begin.

Taking a deep breath to calm the sudden absurdity, I said, "I'll call Zaoyi."

Lin Zaoyi had just boarded the plane. "What's wrong?"

Mingxian lowered her eyelids slightly. "I'm worried about who's with you."

On the phone, Lin Zaoyi couldn't see her mother's expression, so she asked casually, "Don't worry, it's very safe, Mom. I'm not talking to you anymore, the plane is about to take off."

The call had ended, but Mingxian remained in the position of answering the phone. She impulsively wanted to call back, even pressing her daughter to tell her if she was Zhaojing. In the end, she pressed the button.

What if... what if it isn't?
