Chapter 96 You know how to soften my heart.
As soon as Lin Zaoyi stepped out of the inner room, Tan Jiani forcibly grabbed her arm. "Lin Zaoyi, what's wrong with you? I gave you a look but you didn't react, and I kicked you but you didn't respond either. Are you doing this on purpose?"
Lin Zaoyi's gaze casually drifted to a certain spot. It was late autumn, and the sky was overcast. Even though the pine trees were evergreen, they still looked somewhat desolate.
She opened her mouth slightly, and roughly concluded, "I'll listen to you, and cut off my ill-fated relationship with your brother as soon as possible."
"What do you mean by 'listen to me'?" Tan Jiani found these words extremely grating. She frowned, and her voice involuntarily rose a few decibels. "What do you mean? Don't tell me you want to dump my brother!"
"It's not about throwing."
Compared to Tan Jia Ni, Lin Zao Yi could be described as calm, her voice completely flat: "It's a normal separation; we shouldn't be together in the first place."
That's the logic, but Tan Jiani doesn't want to see this kind of ending, which is quite a contradiction.
Does my brother agree?
Lin Zaoyi's eyes showed a blank look for half a second. "He... should agree."
"Probably?"
Tan Jiani finally understood, and excitedly put her hands on her hips, "Lin Zaoyi, you dare to dump my brother! You just try!"
She was met with a cold, indifferent back view. Lin Zaoyi turned and left without a sound or a picture, getting into Aunt Ming's car.
This heartless woman!
Looking for her brother, she turned around and saw him walking out of the inner room. Even though Lin Zaoyi hadn't said anything, why did she see a depressed aura about him?
My nose started to sting.
She jogged to catch up, opened the passenger door, and climbed in. "Brother..."
"Um?"
"Lin Zaoyi..." Tan Jiani hesitated several times, but decided to lay the groundwork first, "Did you and Lin Zaoyi have a fight?"
The car drove off smoothly, and the older brother stared calmly at the road ahead. "No."
If Lin Zaoyi wasn't involved, why break up?
"Then..." she wondered how to phrase it, when her brother asked first, "You mean she wants to break up?"
Tan Jiani's eyes widened. "You know? Did something happen? Did Grandpa arrange another blind date for you?"
The older brother remained silent.
After several seconds of deathly silence, he said, "No."
She couldn't wait to answer, "So what exactly happened?"
The key question is, "Do you agree to Lin Zaoyi wanting to split the bill?"
When they encountered a traffic light, the older brother slowed down and turned to look at her. His jaw was clenched, and after a moment, he uttered two words through his teeth, "No."
"?"
Is this an attempt to seize by force?
...
The main parking lot.
Mingxian didn't get out of the car immediately, but instead unbuckled her seatbelt. She touched her daughter's face tenderly and asked, "Do you want to take a day off?"
“No need,” Lin Zaoyi turned to look out the window, her face reflected in the glass, her expression gloomy and dark. “I’ll feel uncomfortable if I’m idle.”
Monday, a busy day.
From morning to evening, Lin Zaoyi didn't allow herself a moment of rest, during which Tan Zhaojing sent her several messages.
She didn't open it, afraid that she wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
It seemed to be time to leave work, and colleagues left one after another. Before long, only a few colleagues remained in the office who were working overtime.
The phone rang.
She glanced at it and saw only a note, and her heart involuntarily clenched.
She answered the phone, and the voice on the other end was as soft and deep as ever: "Finished with work? I'm in the parking lot."
The setting sun, visible on the horizon, descends upon the building, seemingly about to fall but not quite.
Lin Zaoyi had been staring out the window since she got into the car, until they passed a sparsely populated alley before she spoke up, "Brother Zhaojing, come for a walk with me."
"good."
The driver parked the car on the side of the road and didn't drive far, following nearby at a leisurely pace.
Another silence followed.
Lin Zaoyi thought to herself that since he hadn't said those hurtful words, she could continue to enjoy his tenderness without restraint.
If she could, she would like to turn back time to two days ago, but alas, that pool doesn't work, it doesn't work at all.
As the afterglow of sunset slowly sank in, the streetlights lit up one by one.
Lin Zaoyi called out to him very softly, "Brother Zhaojing".
The man tilted his head slightly. "Hmm?"
“We…we—”
“Lin Zaoyi,” Tan Zhaojing interrupted her sharply, his voice clearly no longer as gentle as before, “I advise you to think it over before you speak.”
"I've thought it through," Lin Zaoyi said, her eyes slightly reddened as she took several deep breaths before finally managing to utter a complete sentence, "Let's get back on track."
Even though she had anticipated it, Tan Zhaojing still became emotional, his gaze fixed on her, filled with turmoil that he couldn't conceal, "What do you mean by 'on the right track'?"
A gust of wind rose, its sound whistling through the space between the two.
Lin Zaoyi smoothed her disheveled bangs, slowly lifted her eyelids, and spoke slowly, each word gentle and calm, "Each should follow their own path. You marry into another family, I marry someone else, and we have nothing to do with each other."
"Get married?"
A cold smile curved the man's lips. His trench coat billowed in the wind as he spoke in an icy tone, "Didn't you think about the consequences?"
Even the worst outcome is not as bad as breaking up with him.
Lin Zaoyi's gaze froze for a moment, then slowly dispersed. "Are you... going to be domineering again?"
He reached out and gently lifted a strand of her hair, his fingertips soft. "I told you before, apart from breaking up, you're in charge of everything else."
"No..." She shook her head, her eyes stinging and swollen. "You should know that Mom is the person I care about most... I can't... I can't..."
"And what about me?"
Tan Zhaojing looked at her, his eyes swirling with emotion. "Just like that, you dump her?"
"It's not about throwing..."
The girl's voice was broken by the wind, "Brother Zhaojing, please... let's... let's stop here..."
Tan Zhaojing was annoyed by her appearance, his Adam's apple bobbing violently. "What if I said I couldn't do it?"
Lin Zaoyi closed her eyes briefly, her throat terribly dry. "Tan Zhaojing, you can't be unreasonable..."
He felt a weight on her shoulder, then wrapped his arms around her, his husky voice imprisoning her ear, "This is the only one. From now on, I'll listen to you."
after…
They have no future.
Lin Zaoyi felt utterly desolate. She stared blankly at the man in front of her, wanting to see him clearly, but her vision blurred. Tears welled up uncontrollably, and within a few seconds, they became unstoppable.
"Brother Zhaojing," she said, her voice trembling, "please...please just do what I want one more time..."
Then who will go along with him?
But in just a moment, Tan Zhaojing was defeated; he was helpless against her tears.
My heart aches heavily.
He placed his fingertip on the corner of her eye and gently wiped away the moisture. Lin Zaoyi couldn't control her tears at this moment, and no matter how much he wiped, they wouldn't dry.
The person in front of me seemed to smile slightly. "You know how to soften my heart."
