Chapter 67 Getting Along with My Younger Brother

Something rubbed against her shoes a few times.

Qiao Zhen looked down and saw the black custom-made leather shoes brushing against her beige high heels, making them look like two birds entwined.

She pursed her lips and decisively moved away; even Lu Zheng's incredibly long legs were beyond her reach.

Then she heard a soft laugh coming from above her head.

Lu Zheng withdrew his foot.

Fortunately, Qiao Luosheng was busy discussing a math problem with his classmates in the study group and didn't notice their little actions.

But it was enough to make Joe's heart pound.

"I'll go buy water." Lu Zheng stood up straight and walked outside.

Qiao Zhen suddenly stood up. "I'll take it for Mr. Lu."

Qiao Luosheng frowned and asked in confusion, "Sister, how do you know his surname is Lu?"

Qiao Zhen's heart skipped a beat. When she met her younger brother's probing gaze, she quickly waved her phone, "Doesn't calling a car show the driver's name?"

“Oh right.” Qiao Luosheng’s eyes darted around. “Sis, you guys go ahead, I’m thirsty.”

Qiao Zhen made a gesture as if she was about to hit her younger brother, telling him to stay where he was and not to run around, and then chased after him.

Only after stepping out of the emergency building did she dare to quicken her pace and keep up with Lu Zheng. "Lu... Lu Zheng, why are you still at the entrance of my residential complex at this hour?"

Lu Zheng, however, answered a different question, "What do you think of my relationship with your brother?"

Qiao Zhen snorted coldly, "You're quite good at manipulating people's hearts."

Lu Zheng raised an eyebrow, "Is that how you see it?"

"Hehehe..." Qiao Zhen chuckled dryly, "Just kidding."

Lu Zheng looked down at the long, curly hair draped over her shoulder, the ends of which swayed playfully as she walked.

He raised his hand, his long fingers entwining around her hair, his palm stroking her shoulder. "I didn't want to go home, so I drove around. I happened to be back at the entrance of your neighborhood when I saw you rushing out. You must have something urgent to do."

Without thinking twice, Qiao Zhen blurted out, "Why don't you want to go home?"

Lu Zheng's eyes darkened, revealing pain and disgust. "He just doesn't want to go back."

Qiao Zhen was surprised.

I heard that the Lu family is a large family with four generations living together. Lu Zheng has several uncles and aunts, and his older brothers and cousins are countless. They live in a top-tier villa area in the east of the city.

One can imagine that the Lu family's life was very lively.

Lu Zheng is the head of the Lu family, a figure who is surrounded by admirers, so why would he not want to go home?

Qiao Zhen thought about it seriously. Although the Qiao family was once a wealthy family, it had few members, simple relationships, and no conflicts.

The Lu family is different; it's likely that among top-tier wealthy families with a large population, there are many secrets unknown to outsiders.

Lu Zheng probably doesn't want to go back and deal with the dirty side of things.

"Zhenzhen."

The hand that was gently resting on her shoulder suddenly pressed down heavily on her.

"Huh?" Qiao Zhen snapped out of her reverie about the bloody power struggles within wealthy families and realized she had almost bumped into a vending machine.

Lu Zheng pressed her shoulders and pulled her back two steps. "What are you thinking about?"

Qiao Zhen didn't dare to actually say, "Does your Lu family have a lot of gossip?" She cleared her throat and said, "I'm thinking about what to drink."

"Really?" Lu Zheng's tone betrayed disbelief.

Qiao Zhen found it strange; what was there to disbelieve?

Lu Zheng said, "Aren't you curious why I don't want to go home?"

"Uh..." Qiao Zhen touched her nose, "Because it's too far, and it's inconvenient to commute to and from get off work?"

Lu Zheng couldn't tell if he was laughing out of anger or amused. He gripped Qiao Zhen's shoulders tightly and whispered, "Because that home was cold and boring."

"Hmm?" Only then did Qiao Zhen notice the color in his eyes, which was deep and dark because of the heavy past. Her heart seemed to be stabbed, and she uncontrollably took a step forward, got closer to Lu Zheng, and hugged him.

As she tried to back away, the hand on her shoulder suddenly slipped down to her back and pressed her firmly into a warm and solid embrace.

Before she could struggle, a warm breath landed on the top of her head, "Let me hold you for a while."

"..." Qiao Zhen lowered her hands and fell silent.

There was a hint of weariness in Lu Zheng's voice.

It seems his family has had a significant impact on him.

For no apparent reason, Qiao Zhen felt a sharp pain in her head, as if a thin, long needle had pierced her brain from her temple.

She groaned in discomfort, burying her head in Lu Zheng's arms.

Lu Zheng asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Qiao Zhen rubbed her temples with one hand and pressed the other to her chest. After taking several deep breaths, she shook her head. "I'm probably a little tired after a busy day."

Lu Zheng supported her arm. "Let's go back."

He quickly bought three bottles of water, and on his way back to the emergency building, Qiao Zhen recovered. Seeing the brightly lit building ahead, she gently pushed Lu Zheng away.

"I'm feeling better."

Lu Zheng's expression turned ugly for a moment.

He thought Qiao Zhen was faking illness to push him away.

Qiao Zhen was completely unaware and busied herself taking the water bottle from his hand.

Although his fingers were long and slender, he still struggled a bit to hold three bottles of water.

"Let's go, we're almost at Luosheng." She quickened her pace.

Lu Zheng stared at her retreating figure, his eyes growing even more intense.

Despite repeated prompting, the woman still didn't remember.

He forced down his agitation and slowly returned to the waiting area.

Before it was Qiao Luosheng's turn, Qiao Zhen handed him the water.

Qiao Luosheng thanked him and took the phone, casually placing it on his lap. "Why did you take so long?"

Qiao Zhenzhen wanted to open her younger brother's head to see how the boy, who was usually so focused on studying, had suddenly become so gossipy.
