Chapter 193 People Cause Trouble

Qiao Zhen clutched her stomach in pain and glared at the worker: "This is a society governed by law. You will be held accountable for hitting someone!"

"Responsible for what? You're not paying me and you still think you're right?"

The workers were not afraid at all and went up to punch Qiao Zhen twice more.

Qiao Zhen was no match for the combined strength of the group and was forced to retreat step by step, gritting his teeth as he looked at the people in front of him.

"I advise you not to take this too seriously, or you might end up in jail," Qiao Zhen said, unable to help but warn the workers who were acting recklessly.

Not only for the workers, but also for himself, he was afraid of what kind of beating he would get if things continued like this.

The workers acted as if they hadn't heard anything and continued to swing their fists, trying to hit Qiao Zhen.

Qiao Zhen shouted, "You beat people like this without considering the consequences, is it because the people behind you have given you some benefits that allow you to be so irresponsible!"

Upon hearing this, the workers exchanged glances, and the leader became even more alarmed.

When that woman told them she was going to beat up Qiao Zhen, she didn't mention that Qiao Zhen was so good at talking.

"Hmph, if you don't pay, you'll get beaten!" The worker didn't think twice, snorted coldly, and prepared to use violence against Qiao Zhen again.

"stop!"

Just then, a figure flashed by, followed by the worker covering his face and groaning as he stumbled back several steps.

Seeing that the newcomer was surprisingly agile, the other workers were also frightened and took two steps back.

"Who...who are you?"

The worker was panting heavily, barely managing to steady himself.

At this moment, Qiao Zhen felt as if a knife was cutting into her flesh inside her stomach, causing her to break out in a cold sweat and unable to even utter a complete sentence.

Gu Xijue's face was cold as he looked at the workers opposite him, and his tone naturally became unpleasant.

"Did you do this?"

Upon hearing this, the workers were stunned for a moment, and then one of the bolder ones admitted, "That's right, if he doesn't pay us our wages, we'll beat him up. What, do you want to meddle in other people's business?"

"This is the first time I've seen someone who hits someone and then justifies it."

Gu Xijue's smile vanished. After loosening his muscles, he strode up to the leading worker and punched him to the ground.

The worker was caught off guard and was thrown to the ground by Gu Xijue, who was dressed in a suit and tie.

"Ouch, my leg!" the worker cried out, clutching his leg and groaning in pain.

Gu Xijue didn't care about all that. After dealing with that one, he did the same thing again and quickly took down the other workers as well.

Qiao Zhen, disregarding the pain in her stomach, stared at Gu Xijue in astonishment.

Before he could react, Gu Xijue was already beside him, asking with concern, "How are you? Are you alright? Does it still hurt?"

Qiao Zhen shook her head reluctantly and grabbed his arm: "I... you didn't have to do this."

Gu Xijue smiled and said, "What are you talking about? This is help between friends. You helped me, so of course I have to treat you like this."

Qiao Zhen was filled with gratitude and was about to say something when a voice interrupted them.

"What, are you putting on a hero-saves-the-damsel-in-distress act?"

Upon hearing this, Qiao Zhen followed her gaze and saw a pair of shiny black leather shoes standing in front of her.

Qiao Zhen looked up and saw Lu Zheng's expressionless face, which looked rather cold.

"I didn't..." Qiao Zhen hesitated, wanting to explain something, but Lu Zheng had already forcibly picked him up and kissed his neck.

Qiao Zhen flinched in shock, closing her eyes and daring not to open them.

Gu Xijue's expression also turned somewhat unpleasant: "Mr. Lu, Miss Qiao is my friend. She was beaten without explanation, and I was just helping her out."

"Is that so?" Lu Zheng didn't believe Gu Xijue's words at all, and just smiled coldly: "You better be."

Qiao Zhen trembled all over, too ashamed to look up at anyone.

Having been insulted by Lu Zheng, he no longer dared to look at Gu Xijue.

Gu Xijue naturally noticed Qiao Zhen's unusual behavior and said coldly to Lu Zheng, "Mr. Lu, Miss Qiao is also a person. You have no relation to her. Please don't force Miss Qiao to do things she doesn't want to do next time."

"What is your relationship with him? What right do you have to tell me what to do?"

Lu Zheng didn't care at all. He glanced at Gu Xijue with a smile, then carried Qiao Zhen away.

Lu Zheng carried him into the car, and Qiao Zhen was about to open his eyes when he saw Lu Zheng looking bored and angrily.

"Is this how you treat me when we're out in public?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Zheng scoffed dismissively and said, "What, it's not like it's the first time. Why are you so uncomfortable?"

"What you did before was right?" Qiao Zhen met Lu Zheng's gaze impulsively, her eyes filled with stubbornness and resentment.

"Hmph." Lu Zheng sneered, "You're only realizing it now? Too late."

Qiao Zhen looked at Lu Zheng's stern smile and couldn't help but feel a pang of pain in her heart.

She had been by Lu Zheng's side for so long without ever asking for a formal title, but he couldn't even give her the most basic respect.

"Let go, Lu Zheng," Qiao Zhen said expressionlessly.

Lu Zheng spoke without thinking, though his tone was somewhat impatient: "You think you can just forget about Qiao Zhen? Wasn't it the previous one? You think you can just forget about it?"

"What if I say I remembered?"

Qiao Zhen suddenly spoke up. He didn't know why he said that, but looking at Lu Zheng's unrestrained smile, a fire burned in his heart.

"brush--"

A screeching sound of brakes rang out, and before Qiao Zhen could react, she was slammed hard in front of the car by its momentum.
