Qiao Zhen stood beside the two of them, listening quietly to their conversation, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
Shen Yan merely gave a cold laugh. Due to his weakness, his lips were pale, and he did not refute further.
"Don't worry, Lu Zheng won't let you two get away with this."
Upon hearing this, Lu Zheng showed no fear whatsoever; instead, a mocking smile curled at the corners of his lips.
"Then you are welcome to give it a try, Ms. Shen."
After saying that, Lu Zheng grabbed Qiao Zhen's hand and walked out of the hospital.
"Aren't you afraid of Shen Yan's revenge?"
Sitting in the car, Qiao Zhen thought about what Chen Yan had just said and asked with lingering fear.
"When soldiers come, generals will block them; when water comes, earth will dam it. You know that principle."
After saying that, Lu Zheng fastened Qiao Zhen's seatbelt and started the car.
Just as Qiao was about to go to the company, she suddenly heard her phone vibrate.
She took out her phone and saw that it was Yan Simiao calling, so she immediately answered the call.
"Hey, Miaomiao, what's up?"
Yan Simiao's urgent yet excited voice came from the other end of the phone: "I'm telling you, Zhenzhen, I've finally found out what you asked me to find out!"
"real?"
Qiao Zhen's face showed a hint of surprise, and she immediately asked, "What did you find out?"
"The contact information of the doctor at the top-tier hospital where you had your surgery that you asked me to find."
After Yan Simiao finished speaking, she seemed to remember something and asked mysteriously, "Did you tell Lu Zheng about this?"
Hearing this, Qiao Zhen secretly glanced at Lu Zheng beside her. Seeing that he was driving as usual and didn't seem to care about her, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Not yet, I'll tell him when the results are in."
Hearing this, Yan Simiao nodded, her tone full of relief: "I'm not saying this to be mean, but luckily I was lucky. This doctor suddenly retired for some reason and now runs a private clinic. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to find him."
Upon hearing this, Qiao Zhen felt a sense of unease. He forced himself to calm down and asked in confusion, "Why would this happen?"
"He didn't tell me the reason, but if you want to know, I'll give you his contact information. You can ask him at his private clinic yourself."
After saying that, Yan Simiao sent him a message with the address of the private clinic.
Seeing that things were looking promising, Qiao Zhen lost all interest in working and said to Lu Zheng, "I have something to do this afternoon, so I'd like to ask for leave."
"Why is this workaholic suddenly in trouble?" Lu Zheng interjected at this moment.
Qiao Zhen looked up at Lu Zheng upon hearing the sound, her expression somewhat ambiguous.
"It's nothing, I just don't want to push myself too hard. It's okay to relax a bit after work, right?"
Qiao Zhen immediately lowered her head, using a smile to hide her guilty conscience.
To his surprise, Lu Zheng didn't argue with him at all, but nodded in agreement: "Since you want to relax, then so be it."
Looking at Lu Zheng's easygoing face, Qiao Zhen felt a little unreal for a moment, but he didn't want to give up this hard-won opportunity so easily.
Qiao Zhen told Lu Zheng to find him a place to stop, and he slung his bag over his shoulder and hailed a taxi, ignoring the way Lu Zheng kept looking at him from inside the car.
Qiao Zhen took a taxi to the small clinic. Seeing that the clinic looked well-run, she politely pushed open the door.
"Hello ma'am, do you have an appointment?"
Seeing Qiao Zhen's restrained expression, the receptionist politely inquired.
Seeing that no one was around, Qiao Zhen stepped forward and said in a low voice, "Hello, I would like to see your dean. I have something I want to ask him."
Seeing Qiao Zhen's mysterious demeanor, the receptionist frowned but didn't say much: "The hospital director is seeing a patient right now, please sit here for a while."
Qiao Zhen nodded, then took out her phone to pass the time and saw a text message from Yan Simiao.
"So, Zhenzhen, did you get anything out of them?"
"Not yet, the hospital director is visiting a patient right now, I'll wait for him here."
Yan Simiao sent an "oh" emoji, and then said, "Guess what I found out recently?"
Qiao Zhen didn't want him to keep her in suspense, so she urged him to hurry up and tell her: "Just tell me already, when have I ever guessed right?"
"This dean retired early, and a large sum of money was transferred into his account before his retirement. I suspect this dean is not simple. Be careful when you meet him later."
Hearing this, Qiao Zhen frowned. He hadn't expected things to be so complicated, but in order to find out the truth, he had no choice but to grit his teeth and reply, "Okay."
After turning off her phone, Qiao Zhen looked up and noticed that the receptionist had been staring at her thoughtfully, which made her fingertips tremble.
However, he didn't think too much about it. After all, he had only met the receptionist once, so what could possibly happen?
A moment later, a middle-aged doctor wearing a white coat and gold-rimmed glasses came out of the door, looking somewhat tired.
As soon as the receptionist saw Dean Zhou come out, she quickly went up to him and told him about Qiao Zhen's situation.
Dean Zhou looked in Qiao Zhen's direction with a puzzled expression, then suddenly widened his eyes.
Qiao Zhen quickly stood up: "Hello, Dean Zhou!"
According to Yan Simiao, the dean's name is Zhou Zheng.
Zhou Zheng looked at Qiao Zhen with lingering fear, his tone tentative: "Hello, Miss Qiao, what brings you here?"
Qiao Zhen was about to answer, but then suddenly seemed to remember something, and said with a hint of shock, "You actually know my name!"
Upon hearing this, a clear sense of panic appeared on Zhou Zheng's face. He then coughed twice and said, "Well, I have a better memory."
"That's wonderful." Qiao Zhen continued, following his words, "Since you have such a good memory, I have a few questions I'd like to ask you. Do you have time to ask?"
Hearing this, Zhou Zheng wanted to refuse, but seeing Qiao Zhen's determined look and insistence on getting an answer, he could only sigh and welcome him in.
Once inside the private room, where only he and Qiao Zhen were present, he reverted to his usual cold demeanor: "Speak, what exactly do you want to ask?"
"Dr. Zhou, I don't mean to make things difficult for you. I just want to ask you if you know what caused my illness when you were taking care of me, and what happened at that time?"
Listening to Qiao Zhen's series of questions, Zhou Zheng seemed to be lost in memories, but his expression was mixed with a bit of pain.
“Miss Qiao, it’s not that I don’t want to tell you about this, it’s just that there are some things I really have no choice but to keep quiet.”
Hearing this, Qiao Zhen became a little anxious. He didn't understand why he couldn't say it.
"Please tell me, this is really important to me. If there are any difficulties you can't tell me, I can help you solve them."
Zhou Zheng glanced at Qiao Zhen and sighed, "Miss Qiao, some things can't be solved just by thinking about them. That person's power is not something you can afford to offend. I also advise you not to dwell too much on the past."
