Chapter 43 When it rains, it pours

They could see that a section of their roof had collapsed, and the wind outside was so strong it was almost blowing the roof off.

Their thatched huts were already dilapidated, and the wooden beams used to hold the houses together were rickety.

Gu Erniu and the other two vaguely heard Gu Lili calling them, and they rubbed their eyes and got up.

For safety's sake, Gu Lili did not put away the flashlight in her hand.

Gu Erniu was the first to notice the anomaly, and he instantly woke up from his drowsiness.

He rolled off the bed again and pulled Gu Sigou down with one swift motion.

"Quick, Si Gou, get dressed and run!" Gu Erniu said anxiously.

Gu Huanhuan and Gu Lili quickly put on their coats. Gu Lili thought for a moment, then picked up the blanket from the bed and pulled Gu Huanhuan outside.

The three of them now realized what was happening. Their house was about to collapse, and Gu Erniu hurriedly pulled Gu Sigou out.

Once outside, Gu Sigou burst into tears, "Sister, Second Brother, our chickens, ducks, and Big Black are still inside! If the house collapses, will they be crushed to death?"

"Don't be afraid, I'll go get them!" Gu Lili said, handing the cup in her hand to Gu Huanhuan.

Then he ran into the house, and Gu Erniu followed him in.

Time was of the essence, so Gu Lili did not stop Gu Ergou.

The two men, one carrying a basket on his back and the other leading the big black dog out.

As he came out, Gu Erniu seemed to have thought of something important. He handed Da Laohei to Gu Sigou and was about to rush into the house again.

"Erniu, don't go in anymore!" Before Gu Lili could finish speaking, Gu Erniu had already rushed in.

Gu Lili knew that Gu Erniu had gone in to move wheat, because he was afraid that the wheat they used to make sugar would be crushed underneath.

Seeing this, she quickly grabbed her flashlight to light the way for Gu Erniu, so that he could hurry up.

However, just as she reached the door, their little house collapsed with a loud crash.

Gu Lili's mind went blank for a moment, and her whole body trembled uncontrollably.

"Erniu!"

"Second Brother!"

The three siblings were terrified and rushed toward the collapsed house.

"Erniu, where are you?" Gu Lili cried out.

This fool, a few pounds of wheat, are nothing compared to him. What would we do if something happened to him?

Gu Lili frantically began digging at the collapsed house, secretly praying that Gu Erniu was alright.

Their thatched huts were not in good condition, but because of the freezing rain, a thick layer of ice had formed on them, which would be very dangerous if it hit a vital spot.

Gu Huanhuan and Gu Ergou followed Gu Lili's example and kept digging.

"Sister, Huanhuan, Sigou, I'm here!" A weak voice came from behind Gu Lili.

Gu Lili quickly followed the direction of Gu Erniu's voice.

The three of them worked hard to remove the straw and tree trunks that were pressing down on Gu Ergou. Because of the freezing rain, all the straw on the roof was stuck together.

Gu Lili didn't care about any of that. She tore the sticky straw apart with her bare hands, seemingly oblivious to the blood drawn from her hands by the ice.

Finally, after the three of them persevered, Gu Erniu's head was able to emerge.

"Erniu, are you alright?" Gu Lili asked anxiously.

Gu Erniu chuckled and said, "Sister, I'm fine, I'm just too crushed to get up."

There happened to be a stool where Gu Erniu was pinned down, so he wasn't seriously injured, but he was unable to move.

Upon hearing this, Gu Lili's anxious heart finally calmed down.

Gu Lili comforted him, "Erniu, just wait a little longer, your sister will dig you out right away."

Once Gu Erniu's location is determined, things become much easier.

Before long, the straw covering Gu Erniu's body was cleared away by Gu Lili and the other two.

Gu Lili quickly helped Gu Erniu up. When Gu Erniu got up, the wheat sieve he was carrying was still firmly in his arms and did not spill.

After carefully checking Gu Erniu and confirming that he was not injured, Gu Lili picked up a tree branch and whipped it at Gu Erniu's buttocks.

"Gu Erniu, you're such a worry! It was so dangerous, why did you run over there! Is that wheat more important than you? You just rushed over without a care in the world!"

Gu Erniu struck several times in a row, but did not dodge.

Gu Lili threw the wooden stick in her hand to the ground, squatted down and started crying.

This terrified Gu Erniu, and Huanhuan and Sigou were also startled.

Gu Erniu originally thought that his sister would praise him for rescuing Xiaomai.

But I never expected my sister to be so angry.

Thinking about it, it makes sense. If something were to happen to me, what would my sister and the others do?

He was the eldest man in the family and had to support his family.

Gu Erniu quickly knelt down in front of Gu Lili to admit his mistake, saying, "Sister, I know I was wrong. I will never dare to be so reckless again. Please don't cry."

Gu Lili was too worried just now, and she cried to release her emotions.

In her previous life, Gu Lili was an only child and never had the experience of being an older sister.

Her current role is more like that of a mother than a sister.

She really didn't know how to protect her younger siblings. If something happened to them, Gu Lili couldn't even imagine what would happen to her.

"It's good that you know you were wrong. If you act recklessly like this again, don't call me 'sister' anymore!" Gu Lili said, wiping away her tears.

Gu Erniu nodded hurriedly, repeatedly promising that he would never dare to do it again, and Gu Lili finally stopped crying and started laughing.

Gu Lili got up, shone her flashlight on the house, and couldn't help but sigh.

It's like when it rains, it pours.

Thankfully, the rain stopped tonight; otherwise, after this whole ordeal, all four of us would definitely have gotten fevers again.

Gu Sigou looked at the flashlight in Gu Lili's hand and asked curiously, "Sister, what is this? Why is it so bright?"

Gu Lili then belatedly realized that she had forgotten to put the flashlight away.

Gu Erniu quickly replied, "Sigou, are you stupid? This must be a family heirloom that Mother left to Sister! But why haven't we seen Mother take it out to use before?"

After hearing Gu Erniu's words, Gu Lili sighed and wondered if she was always blaming everything on Li Xihua, which was why Gu Erniu subconsciously assumed that Li Xihua had given them to him.

However, this is good, it saves me the trouble of explaining.

"Hmm...it was given to me by my mother, but you all have to keep it a secret, otherwise bad people will find out and steal it," Gu Lili said.
