Chapter 31 A Dog Without a Home

Everyone stopped cursing and looked at the four people with curiosity.

Niu Cuihua was the only one who came this morning, but now the whole family of four is here.

Moreover, they all seemed to be injured, especially Niu Cuihua. If Gu Chuan hadn't been supporting her, she probably would have collapsed.

When Gu Jingsheng saw Gu Lili, the old monk, sitting down on the oxcart, he was furious.

If it weren't for Gu Lili, that ungrateful wretch, would they have been flogged by the county magistrate?

If I had known, I would have strangled Gu Shan as soon as he was born.

I thought that Gu Shan was dead, leaving behind ten taels of silver, and that he had come to repay a debt of gratitude.

I never expected that the four bastards who stayed behind would all be debt collectors!

Gu Jingsheng grew angrier the more he thought about it, ignoring the burning pain in his buttocks, and quickly stepped forward.

Seeing Gu Jingsheng's murderous look, Chuncao instinctively shielded Gu Lili behind her.

Gu Lili felt a warmth in her heart, but this was a family matter, and she couldn't hide behind others, otherwise this old man would think she was afraid of him!

Gu Lili patted Chuncao's shoulder, then peeked out, her eyes meeting Gu Jingsheng's without flinching.

"You're a real troublemaker! We've already cut ties with you, and you still... do this kind of thing!" Gu Jingsheng cursed angrily.

He was furious, but he didn't want the villagers to know that he had been flogged by the county magistrate, so he hesitated for a moment and then kept quiet.

Gu Lili looked at Gu Jingsheng with a cold smile, "Since you know we've broken off our relationship, why do you keep tolerating your daughter-in-law bullying me? If she hadn't sent someone to rob me today, would you have been flogged by the magistrate?"

Gu Lili didn't care about his feelings and directly exposed this mess.

The villagers on the carriage overheard the gist of the story and began to murmur amongst themselves.

Many passersby went to the yamen to join in the fun today, and they obviously recognized Gu Jingsheng's family.

Everyone was pointing and whispering about their family.

Gu Jingsheng's face instantly turned bright red, and he even wanted to step forward and hit Gu Lili.

In his eyes, even if Gu Lili signed a letter of severance with him, he could still hit her if he wanted to.

Gu Lili was not afraid of him at all and said coldly, "Go ahead and hit me! If you hit me, I'll send you to the yamen again today."

Gu Jingsheng immediately pulled his outstretched hand back; the feeling of being hit by that board was unpleasant.

The people on the road, seeing that Gu Jingsheng showed no remorse whatsoever, began to curse and swear.

This isn't the county government office anymore; if you want to throw away rotten vegetable leaves or rotten eggs, there are no officials to stop you.

Some of the people who were cursing the authorities picked up whatever was at hand and threw it at the family.

Instantly, it was like rain was falling on the four of them, with all sorts of debris hitting them.

The four of them hid everywhere like stray dogs that had lost their home.

The four of them no longer acted arrogantly in front of Gu Lili, as if they were afraid that if they said the wrong thing, these crazy people would come up and beat them up.

Right now, my buttocks are burning, my head hurts, my shoulders hurt, my whole body aches.

The group hurriedly ran towards Sizhu's father's oxcart, hoping to get on and escape this place as quickly as possible.

Fearing that his own oxcart would be affected, the father of the oxcart driver raised his whip and started driving the oxcart.

"Father Sizhu, wait for us!" Old Mrs. Gu cried out, begging for her parents.

Niu Cuihua screamed, "You damned father! You promised to wait for me, why did you run away? Ouch, my butt!"

Father Sizhu ignored the four people behind him and kept driving the oxen with his whip.

Niu Cuihua's one penny is nothing to worry about! She's actually quite happy about it.

The people on the oxcart couldn't help but burst into laughter when they saw the four men looking so disheveled.

The oxcart wasn't fast, but all four men had been flogged and couldn't catch up.

Gu Lili watched as the four people slowly faded from her sight.

Because we were delayed at the city gate, it was already quite late when we got back.

On the way back, the villagers on the oxcart kept cursing Gu Jingsheng and his three companions all the way home.

When Gu Lili arrived at her doorstep, Gu Erniu, Gu Huanhuan, and Gu Sigou were already waiting for her at the gate.

"Sister, you're finally back!" Gu Sigou ran towards Gu Lili.

Upon seeing the pork in Gu Lili's hand, he immediately stopped the car.

Excitedly, she took the pork and exclaimed, "Wow, sister, we can eat pork cracklings again, right?"

Gu Lili smiled and said, "How about I use this meat to make braised pork for you?"

Gu Lili felt nauseous after eating too much pork cracklings.

Although Gu Sigou didn't know what braised pork was, he couldn't help but drool when he heard Gu Lili mention it.

"Okay, okay, sister, I love everything you make!" Gu Sigou said happily.

Gu Erniu and Gu Huanhuan smiled and walked towards Gu Lili, quickly taking Gu Lili's basket from her back.

Even the big black dog chained up in the yard couldn't help but cheer when it saw Gu Lili return.

Gu Erniu took the basket off his back and put it on the ground. Seeing the pot that Gu Lili had bought, he laughed and said, "Sister, we finally don't have to worry about the rice leaking!"

As Gu Erniu spoke, he took the pot off the table and immediately saw the chickens and ducks in the basket on his back.

"Huanhuan, Sigou, come and see! There are chicks and ducklings!" Gu Erniu hurriedly called Huanhuan and Sigou over to look.

The three children pressed their heads against the basket, looking at the small, yellow, furry creature inside.

"Sister, I'll be in charge of finding food for them from now on, okay?" Gu Huanhuan said happily.

Gu Sigou wasn't about to back down either, "Then I'll be in charge of herding the ducks!"

“Then I’ll eat and build them a shelter!” Gu Erniu said.

Gu Lili laughed and said, "Sure, you all need to learn arithmetic well, otherwise you won't even know if you've lost it."

The three nodded emphatically, and Gu Lili then invited them to eat.

After finishing her meal, Gu Huanhuan washed the dishes and then took out the clothes she had made for Gu Lili that day.

"Sister, look, this is the dress I sewed for you. Isn't it pretty?" Gu Huanhuan said with a smile.

Gu Lili took it and examined it carefully. Although some threads were not sewn properly, it was still very well done.

"Huanhuan, you're so amazing! When I have money, I'll buy lots of pretty fabric and make you some pretty clothes, okay?" Gu Lili said, patting Gu Huanhuan's head.

Gu Huanhuan nodded emphatically and smiled, "Okay, okay!"

Gu Erniu and Gu Sigou were building a chicken coop outside when Gu Lili looked outside and said, "Huanhuan, all our shoes are worn out. Let's use the remaining fabric to make cloth shoes!"

They usually wear straw sandals, and if the weather is cold, they stuff reeds or other things into the sandals to keep warm.
