Chapter 161 Wu Chenggui Dies Suddenly

"Erniu, let me push. You must be tired after driving for so long," Aunt Zhang said to Gu Erniu, who was about to push the cart.

Erniu glanced at the group and rolled his eyes.

If it could talk, it would definitely correct Aunt Zhang.

I, Old Niu, have been pulling you all this way, I'm the one who's tired, okay!

Gu Erniu waved his hand and said, "Auntie, what's so tiring about me driving the oxcart? Let me push Uncle Zhang instead!"

“Yes, Aunt Zhang, don’t be so polite, Erniu can push it.” Gu Lili chimed in from the side.

Upon hearing this, Aunt Zhang had no choice but to give up.

Walking and chatting with Gu Lili, they followed behind Gu Erniu.

However, looking at Gu Erniu's back, Aunt Zhang was extremely satisfied.

Gu Lili almost got into trouble yesterday. When she entered the city today, she kept a close eye on everyone to see if anyone suspicious was following her.

I looked all the way but didn't find anyone suspicious.

Upon arriving at the clinic, the three of them helped Uncle Zhang inside to sit down and wait for the doctor to see him.

This is the same clinic where Han Mingyue took Gu Lili for treatment last time. For some reason, there are quite a lot of people here today.

But it seemed that none of them were there to see a doctor; they were all gathered around the inner room watching the commotion.

Gu Lili also walked over there, intending to see what had happened and also to invite the doctor over.

As soon as Gu Lili squeezed through, she saw Magistrate Yang and Clerk Li, along with several yamen runners, questioning the old doctor.

"Wu Chenggui was brought here for treatment yesterday. How did he die?" Magistrate Yang inquired.

Upon hearing this, Gu Lili was startled. Could it be that Han Mingyue turned back yesterday and killed Wu Chenggui?

The old doctor sighed and said, "Your Honor, that's right. Wu Chenggui took a large amount of aphrodisiac powder and indulged in excessive sexual activity, which led to his sudden death!"

Gu Lili almost cried out. Was it because she had fed him too much tea?

If someone were to witness this, wouldn't it be considered that he committed murder?

In an instant, Gu Lili panicked.

After thinking it over carefully, it seemed that no one noticed her and Han Mingyue yesterday.

For safety's sake, Gu Lili continued listening.

"Then why didn't Wang Fugui die? Didn't both of them take the Hehuan Powder?" Magistrate Yang asked, puzzled.

This is the first time I've handled a case like this in all my years in office.

How absurd!

The old doctor stroked his beard and replied, "Wang Fugui didn't take much, so he's fine."

Gu Lili secretly wondered if Han Mingyue's return was to serve tea to Wu Chenggui.

But Wu Chenggui shouldn't have provoked Han Mingyue, so it shouldn't be like this.

Gu Lili had misunderstood Han Mingyue. Han Mingyue had only turned around to help them take off their clothes; she hadn't poured them any more tea.

"Wang Fugui has gone mad now. Do you have any way to bring him back to his senses?" Magistrate Yang nodded and continued to ask.

Magistrate Yang received a report from the people yesterday. When the yamen runners arrived, they found one person dead and another insane.

No matter how he interrogated Wang Fugui, he remained mentally impaired and couldn't get anything out of him.

This incident caused quite a stir in Donghai Town, and the news spread throughout the entire town almost overnight.

Because of the significant impact, Magistrate Yang personally came early this morning to learn about yesterday's case.

The old doctor shook his head and said, "Wang Fugui suffered too much trauma; there's nothing we can do!"

Logically speaking, aren't these things all done voluntarily?

Even the old doctor couldn't understand why Wang Fugui had gone insane from the shock.

Magistrate Yang asked the old doctor a few more questions, then led Li the clerk and the yamen runners back to the county office.

Gu Lili was petite, and because she felt guilty, she hid among the onlookers, so Magistrate Yang and his entourage did not notice her.

After Magistrate Yang and his entourage left, the people in the clinic began to discuss it loudly.

"Have you all heard? Those two are truly immoral. Yesterday, they actually did *that* kind of thing with the courtyard gate open!"

"Yes, yes, I heard that Wang Fugui's wife fainted on the spot after she came back!"

"Yes, they sold his shop at a low price overnight and ran away with his stupid son!"

"Tsk tsk tsk, it's true what they say, 'Husbands and wives are like birds in the same forest; when disaster strikes, they fly away separately!'"

How could they not run away?

Since someone died, Wu Chenggui's family will definitely come to claim money.

Li Yuemei is quite decisive. If she had been a step later, her family's yard would probably have had to be compensated to Wu Chenggui's family.

After Li Yuemei fainted and woke up, she saw that Wang Fugui had gone mad, and she knew that she had no hope for the future.

If I continue to stay in Donghai Town, I don't know how people will laugh at me for the rest of my life.

It would be better to sell the shop, take the money, and run away with the son.

Listening to everyone gossiping, Gu Lili couldn't help but ask curiously, "What about Wang Fugui?"

Everyone turned their attention to Gu Lili, making her feel a little guilty.

A kind-hearted aunt stepped forward and said, "Although Wang Fugui is insane, he is also indirectly responsible for Wu Chenggui's death, so naturally he has been arrested by the county magistrate. If they can't get any results from the interrogation, he'll probably be exiled to the border!"

Gu Lili nodded, finally swallowing her anger.

If Wang Fugui has gone mad, he definitely won't mention me again, so I'm safe.

Looking at the noisy crowd, the old doctor suddenly felt a headache coming on.

"If you want to chat, go outside and do it. Don't keep me from seeing patients!" the old doctor roared.

Upon hearing that the old doctor had become angry, everyone quickly withdrew.

Gu Lili gleaned some information from their conversation, so she followed the others out.

"Auntie, auntie, wait a minute, I want to ask you, who did Wang Fugui's shop go to?"

Gu Lili stopped the woman who had just spoken, wanting to inquire about the whereabouts of the shop.

She was quite optimistic about the location of Wang Fugui's shop; it would be the perfect place for Gu Erniu to open a restaurant.

The woman stopped when she heard someone calling her name.

"Little girl, look, that's the family over there who bought it!"

The woman pointed to a shop not far ahead as she spoke.

Gu Lili nodded, thanked the aunt, and turned to go back to the clinic.

When they got back, the old doctor was already changing Uncle Zhang's dressing.

Uncle Zhang was sweating profusely from the pain, but he didn't utter a single sound.

As he looked at Aunt Zhang, he forced a smile despite the pain.

Seeing Uncle Zhang like this, Aunt Zhang couldn't help but secretly wipe away her tears.

Gu Lili walked over and patted Aunt Zhang's hand to comfort her.
