Chapter 49 Beauty and Empire

What decent person would get into a romantic relationship with a safety helmet?

Ha Yue did not bring the little red hat back from the factory, but that did not stop Xue Jing from practicing the restricted scene he had imagined in his mind when they stood together in his own bathroom last time.

Ha Yue’s hair, which had just dried naturally, was soaked again, and the short-sleeved shirt she was wearing, long enough to cover her mid-thighs, was thrown outside by Xue Jing. Hot water poured down from above their heads, and wisps of steam rose slowly from the ground.

In the space shrouded in a thin veil, Ha Yue first screamed as she grasped the fingers below her collarbone that didn't belong to her. She intertwined her fingers and then released them, making pottery and throwing them. Soon, those delicate fingertips used to type words slowly descended. Not yet satisfied after picking red beans, she began to search for a peach blossom paradise with fallen petals.

So, Ha Yue switched to using both hands to pinch Xue Jing's right wrist.

Xue Jing touched Ha Yue's shoulder with his left hand and kissed her in an adult manner.

Because she was tasting something scalding hot that didn't belong to her, the "gurgling" sound between her teeth began to have the effect of increasing the heat and simmering it many times over. Strangely enough, it was as if the ancient scholars were talking about the unity of man and instrument, and the feedback she gave was in sync with the rhythm of his right wrist.

Although his hands were not visible, Ha Yue could tell from the way he spoke how his middle finger probed and pierced, and from the way Ha Yue trembled slightly, he could tell how much force his thumb used when grinding.

Flirting between fingers is like a diligent bee making honey, but it eventually returns to a passionate kiss.

Amidst the sound of the showerhead, one could barely make out the subtle movements of a primary school student eating a popsicle. However, her fingers were tucked into his damp hair, her arms hanging completely downwards, while Xue Jing's ten fingers gripped the back of her knees, annoyed that the popsicle had completely melted.

As expected, water flows downhill, and due to his position and the influence of gravity, he was indeed choked by the water while kneeling on the ground, bringing tears to his eyes. It was Ha Yue who reached out in time to press down the showerhead, cupped his face, and pulled him up, thus saving him from drowning.

At three in the morning, the wind outside the window stopped and all was quiet. Ha Yue and Xue Jing were still rustling in bed.

Logically speaking, all the plastic-sealed items in Xue Jing's wallet were unsealed and used. After the two got back together, their relationship improved even more, and they had no taboos. During the process, they did not hold back their physical strength and resilience to each other.

Even by now, national-level athletes should be exhausted, but because they had things on their minds, the couple changed sleeping positions several times on the small bed, tossing and turning, not only without feeling sleepy, but also becoming more and more mentally alert.

Ha Yue turned over again, as did Xue Jing, but one was thinking about his next entrepreneurial project, while the other was thinking about his marriage proposal plan. The two were lying face to face, their eyes wide open.

Xue Jing was about to reach out and rub Ha Yue's earlobe to ask her if she wanted to take a melatonin pill before going to sleep.

Ha Yue suddenly grabbed his outstretched hand and pressed it against her chest, excitedly saying, "Xue Jing, I suddenly have an idea. Although it's very impromptu, it feels very practical. The more I think about it, the better it seems. I really can't hold it in anymore. Do you want to hear it?"

His heart was pounding unusually hard beneath the back of his hand. Xue Jing's fingers went numb from the shock, and his lips were dry. He wondered if they were telepathically connected, and that her suggestion was exactly what he was thinking. So he suddenly became a little reserved. After a few seconds, he slowly regained his voice amidst the dizziness of the rushing blood and said softly, "Okay, go ahead, I'm listening."

I expected a question about "beauty" to follow, but it didn't.

The next second, Ha Yue suddenly sprang out of bed, swiftly got out of bed barefoot, grabbed her laptop from the table, and crawled back under the covers. In the darkness, she shoved the blue-glowing computer screen directly at Xue Jing's face, pointing to the sea buckthorn literature on it, and spoke with an air of concern for the world: "It's that dried sea buckthorn fruit you just drank. I looked it up, and now, because there's no profit, fewer and fewer farmers in Suicheng are growing these specialty wild fruits. But these things are really good, aren't they? You also felt it was very comfortable to drink, and good for your throat, right? Farmers could easily expand their markets through the internet."

"But their disadvantage lies in the barriers they have to overcome in terms of customer acquisition channels." Just like the old lady she met on her way home from get off work who didn't know how to use WeChat. She had made a living by planting trees and selling fruit all her life, but as she got older, she didn't gain any experience and was instead left far behind by the ever-changing trade methods. But isn't the purpose of technological development to make everyone have a more convenient way of life?

Is smart living only for the new generation?

There will always be someone to lend a helping hand to those who walk slowly. Everyone gets old, and young people will eventually become those walking at the back of the group.

Of course, she's not entirely doing charity work; that would just be self-aggrandizement. But if she can find even a tiny bit of potential to change the world while making money, then that fulcrum seems enough for her to lift the earth.

As she spoke, Ha Yue turned to look at Xue Jing, her eyes shining with hope, her voice rising and falling with deep emotion, "I was thinking, what if I were to create this channel connecting small towns and big cities? Do you think this kind of entrepreneurial project has development potential?"

“Not only sea buckthorn, I can also sell crabapples and jujubes.”

Anyway, whatever the "aunties" grow, she will sell for them. Of course, a brand new project requires a larger start-up capital. Food sales is a completely new field that she has never been exposed to before. In the process, she will also need more manpower to develop the Internet sector. But after completing this order, she will immediately receive her first pot of gold. If the total investment is not enough, she can go to various entrepreneurial platforms to find angel rounds.

Perhaps, perhaps there are people in this world who agree with her ideas and are willing to invest in them.

At this point, Ha Yue's excitement was palpable, her peripheral nerves throbbing. She looked at Xue Jing with anticipation, her gaze burning so intensely that Xue Jing couldn't refuse in the darkness. She had posed a question, but even though it wasn't something Xue Jing had envisioned, it still made it impossible for him to refuse.

Because he provided the oars, she actually used that piece of wood to build Noah's Ark. How could he not be happy for her?

Is sea buckthorn the only treasure produced in Suicheng? Isn't a girl like Ha Yue one?

Xue Jing glanced back at Ha Yue for a moment without saying a word. She reached into her coat pocket not far away and took out the paper and pen she always carried with her. She uncapped the pen and, just like Ha Yue had done a few dozen days ago, wrote a sentence on a sticky note and then steadily stuck it on her computer screen.

He wrote, "Take a leap of faith."

In the bottom right corner, a perfectly shaped, full heart was drawn.

At four in the morning, Ha Yue's dormitory room was brightly lit. Xue Jing pulled the blanket off his face. He had never expected Ha Yue to be so decisive. He had just encouraged her to "take a leap for her dream," but she had actually gotten out of bed and started working on a plan all night long.

What do you mean? Don't young entrepreneurs need to sleep? Is she really that energetic? She's been active for hours and isn't tired at all, right?

The glaring light cast a diffused halo around Xue Jing's eyes. His nerves were like a tangled ball of yarn, his face blank as he stared at the light bulb above him. He couldn't sleep alone; without Ha Yue in bed, he was even more unable to sleep. Ha Yue had found the answers to her inner questions, but who would answer the questions he wanted to ask?

That's not fair at all.

Does love have to be suppressed by career?

He was truly distressed and tormented. It seemed he wouldn't get any sleep that night. Xue Jing snapped out of his daze and glanced at his girlfriend, who was still working on her PowerPoint presentation. Her fingers were practically sparking as she typed. He sighed heavily and struggled to get out of bed.

Xue Jing poured Ha Yue a glass of water and placed it beside her. Then, she took out a few multivitamin tablets, fish oil DHA, and coenzyme Q10 from her bag, put them on a tissue, wrapped herself in the blanket again, and sat back on the side of the bed, reminding her that people who stay up all night should take some health supplements.

Ha Yue took a sip of water and swallowed the colorful pills. Only then did she notice Xue Jing sitting behind her watching her. She quickly got up to turn off the light, her voice a little apologetic, "I'm sorry, did I disturb your sleep by turning on the light? It's only a little past four o'clock, it's still early. Why don't you lie down for a while longer? You have to drive home tomorrow, you must be tired."

"Or is it just that the sound of typing is too loud? Look at me, I get so caught up in talking about new startup projects. Maybe I should do it tomorrow, there's still time."

There's still plenty of time; there's no need to rush. While focusing on her career, she's still very willing to set aside time to spend with Xue Jing.

You must have a firm grasp on both career and love, and make sure both are strong.

None of the reasons Ha Yue gave were valid for Xue Jing's insomnia. He shook his head dejectedly, stopping her from turning off the light. He was still thinking about the things he had packed in the back of his car. Was the plan really impossible to carry out before he got home tomorrow? Could he try again?

Although the initial surprise didn't go well, there's still hope for a turnaround, right? A glimmer of hope might just appear out of nowhere.

He looked closely at Ha Yue's face and saw that she was indeed not tired and her eyes were clear. He put his arm around her waist and carefully asked, "I'm not sleepy either. I don't want to lie down. Don't worry about me. How tiring can driving be? If you can still walk, let's go to Daqingshan to watch the sunrise?"

"It's exactly four o'clock now. I checked, it's an hour and a half drive from here. Let's get to the hiking trail before six o'clock. The sunrise today is at 7:27, the wind has stopped, and there are no clouds at all. After we're done, I'll take you back. I might be a little late for work. Is that okay?"

Being a little late for work isn't a problem; Ha Yue is working for herself and doesn't need to clock in. But the decision was too sudden, and she doesn't have any outdoor gear in her dorm. The two of them are too cumbersome in their ankle-length down jackets, making it difficult to move around freely. After all, it's winter, and there are still risks involved.

Hearing Ha Yue's doubts, Xue Jing immediately shook off his worries. He jumped out of bed, put his clothes over his head, and said, "I have equipment in my car: wool undershirts, cashmere socks, softshell jackets, down vests, gloves, scarves, hand warmers, windproof and waterproof jackets, hiking boots, and trekking poles. I bought a lot of sets when I came here because I was afraid you wouldn't like them. I'll go down and bring them up for you to choose from now."

In less than a minute, he had put on his clothes, left his shoelaces untied, and rushed out the door. He had just run out when he turned back and clung to the door frame, peeking out with an overly cheerful head, and said to Ha Yue, "You better wait for me, don't fall asleep."
