Chapter 15: Acquaintance

Micro Gardening usually opens at nine o'clock. Lu Lingxi came early today, so the shop opened early.

After rolling up the shutter and moving a few potted plants that needed to be exposed to the sun to the door, Lu Lingxi simply tidied up the store and hesitated about how to tell Wang Shuxiu that he wanted to adopt Dahei. Does Wang Shuxiu like dogs? Would she be willing to keep a dog at home? Dahei could live in the backyard, but would the neighbors agree?

Lu Lingxi hesitated for a while, then tentatively sent a text message to Wang Shuxiu, "Mom, I want to get a dog."

Wang Shuxiu, who was making a facial mask, picked up her phone and took a look. She remembered that Lu Lingxi had mentioned that there was a pet shop across from Micro Gardening. In Wang Shuxiu's eyes, the dogs in the pet shop were all small pet dogs such as Pekingese, Teddy, and Pug. Keeping one at home would not take up much space, so she simply replied. "As long as you like it."

Lu Lingxi looked at Wang Shuxiu's reply with surprise, pushed open the shop door, crossed the street and ran to Dong Zhi.

"Brother Dong, my mother agreed to let me adopt Dahei."

After he said that, he realized that there was someone else in Dong Zhi's shop. It was the man who brought Dahei here yesterday, and his name seemed to be Yan Yue.

Yan Yue was squatting in front of the cage holding Dahei and looking at him. Dahei didn't call out, perhaps because he recognized Yan Yue as his benefactor. However, there was still a little bit of vigilance in his eyes when he looked at Yan Yue. Hearing the boy's voice, Yan Yue turned around calmly, but he didn't expect to fall directly into Lu Lingxi's smile.

Unlike the light smile he had seen yesterday, the boy's eyes were sparkling, his mouth was upturned, his expression was lively, and the joy on his face was not concealed. Yan Yue's heart moved, and the irritability of the morning seemed to be soothed by the boy's smile, and his tense mood unconsciously relaxed.

Lu Lingxi glanced at Yan Yue with a hint of embarrassment, then walked past Yan Yue and came to Dong Zhi. "Brother Dong, my mother has agreed to let me adopt Dahei. I will take him home when he gets better."

Dong Zhi was also very happy to hear this, "I just saw that Dahei is recovering well. He will be fine in two days."

Perhaps because he knows he is a stray dog, Dahei's desire to survive and ability to recover are amazing. When ordinary pets are injured, they will go to the pet hospital, but when stray cats and dogs are injured, there is no place for them to recover. Survival outside is difficult, and the slower the recovery, the greater the danger. Therefore, for the same injury, stray cats and dogs recover faster than domestic pets.

Lu Lingxi laughed, squatted in front of Dahei's cage, reached out and touched Dahei's head, and said softly: "Dahei, you have to get better soon, I will take you home."

I don’t know if he understood what Lu Lingxi said, but Dahei whimpered softly and rubbed against Lu Lingxi’s palm.

Lu Lingxi smiled happily with curved eyebrows.

Yan Yue stood beside Lu Lingxi, looking at his smiling face from a close distance, and suddenly a strong desire arose in his heart. This desire was like a tide that swept through Yan Yue's body. His original intention of just wanting to see the boy from a distance was heavily crushed, and instead he wanted to be closer to the boy and have a closer relationship with him.

The moment this thought came to mind, Yan Yue heard his own voice, "Are you planning to adopt this dog?"

Lu Lingxi was stunned, turned his head, looked up at the man and nodded.

The man's voice was low and pleasant. Lu Lingxi half-knelt on the ground and looked at the man from his angle. He only felt that the man was incredibly tall. He couldn't see the man's expression, but only heard the man's regretful voice, "That's a pity. I was going to adopt it."

Lu Lingxi: “…Ah?”

Yan Yue lowered his eyes slightly, looking at the boy's expression as he looked up at him intently. He liked the current posture, as if he had enclosed the boy in his world.

"I think this dog and I have some kind of fate. But it doesn't matter. I can see that it likes you very much. It would be nice if you adopted it. But may I take the liberty of asking for your contact information? I would like to go and see it when I have time."

The man's request was reasonable. He was the one who saved Dahei, so it was only natural for him to adopt Dahei. But Lu Lingxi took a look at Dahei and felt reluctant to let him go. Since the man was willing to take a step back and just visit Dahei when he had time, he had no problem with that.

Lu Lingxi took out his cell phone and said a little embarrassedly: "Let me call you. I haven't memorized my number yet."

The corners of Yan Yue's mouth curled up slightly, and he nodded slightly, giving his number. "My name is Yan Yue."

Lu Lingxi rang Yan Yue's phone and smiled faintly, "Lu Lingxi."

Lu Lingxi, Yan Yue repeated the name in his mind and nodded indifferently at the boy.

After Yan Yue wanted to adopt Dahei, Lu Lingxi had a good impression of Yan Yue, but he felt that Yan Yue's personality was a bit cold. He still remembered Yan Yue's reaction when he smiled at her yesterday, so after exchanging phone numbers, he didn't know what to say to Yan Yue. Lu Lingxi smiled at Yan Yue embarrassedly and squatted down to tease Dahei again.

Yan Yue's eyes followed Lu Lingxi closely. Seeing Dahei squinting his eyes comfortably under the young man's hands, he felt quite uncomfortable.

Stupid dog, with a stupid face!

Restraining the urge to get close to the boy, Yan Yue stayed for a while and then left. Years of insomnia and long nights waiting for dawn had cultivated enough patience for him. After leaving the street, Yan Yue parked the car on the side of the road and dialed Ye Kang's number. His feelings for the boy were too abrupt and too strong. This strange feeling that he had never experienced before made him lose his composure. Accustomed to self-examination, Yan Yue thought of Ye Kang.

The call was quickly connected, but Yan Yue didn't know how to start.

After waiting for a long time without Yan Yue saying anything, Ye Kang asked, "What's wrong? Are you in a bad mood? Did Yin Ya do something weird again?"

The Yin Ya mentioned by Ye Kang is Yan Yue's half-sister, who is a sophomore this year. Because of Yan Yue's special family background, Yin Ya has been deliberately annoying Yan Yue from time to time since she was old enough to understand. In the past few years when Yan Yue was away from home, Yin Ya often approached Yin Yongde for the sake of the inheritance of Hepu Group. Yin Ya, Yan Yue's half-sisters Yan Hai and Yan Qian, have been making trouble in recent years. Yan Hai and Yan Qian are fine, because they are suppressed by Yan Shihui, so they dare not do anything openly for the time being. However, Yin Ya, because of her father's instigation behind her, wanted to discredit Yan Yue's image everywhere, and she almost jumped out and said that Yan Yue wanted to harm her.

Yan Yue said nonchalantly, "It's just some small tricks that can't be put on the table."

From Yan Yue's tone, it seemed that it had nothing to do with Yin Ya. Ye Kang became curious, "What happened?"

Yan Yue was silent for a while, then whispered, "I met a young man."

"Boy?" Ye Kang's gossip skills were instantly activated, and he immediately perked up. Perhaps due to the influence of his family environment, Yan Yue was a bit of a clean freak in relationships, and had been alone all these years. This was the first time Ye Kang heard Yan Yue mention another person in this tone. Although it was a bit unexpected that he said boy instead of girl, these were minor issues.

Ye Kang was very excited, but Yan Yue suddenly didn't want to talk anymore, "It's alright, I'll hang up first."

"Hey, hey...you can't do this..."

Ye Kang's voice disappeared as the call was hung up, and Yan Yue turned off his phone. The moment he opened his mouth, he realized that he didn't want to share the boy with anyone, even if it was just a mention of the boy's news. He just wanted to keep the boy in his own world. Yan Yue lowered his eyes and considered the feasibility of this matter.

After Yan Yue left, Dong Zhi drooled over Yan Yue's car for a long time. He had a very good impression of Yan Yue. Although Yan Yue looked a little cold, he could tell from the way he cared about Dahei that he was kind-hearted and a good person.

Lu Lingxi couldn't help laughing when he heard his praise. In Dong Zhi's eyes, anyone who likes animals is a good person. But it was also because Dong Zhi mentioned the car that Lu Lingxi finally remembered where he had seen this car. It was when he followed Yi Hang to the bookstore a few days ago. At that time, Yi Hang also drooled over this car for a long time like Dong Zhi.

Zhongjing license plate? Yan Yue? Could he be from the Yan family in Zhongjing? Lu Lingxi had always stayed at home and was not familiar with the Lu family's social circle. He didn't know if the Yan family had any contact with the Lu family? If so, he would try to see Yan Yue as little as possible. He didn't want to have any intersection with his past life.

After watching Dahei for a while, Lu Lingxi returned to Micro Gardening and started his daily routine scan. Which pots needed watering, which pots needed fertilizer, and which pots needed insects were all clearly visible on the panel. While he was busy, Old Han, who had come last time, walked in.

"Welcome! Brother Han?"

Old Han smiled and said, "Xiao Xi, how is my Clivia?" When he asked the question, he looked nervous, for fear that Lu Lingxi would say that it was dead.

Lu Lingxi understood Lao Han's feelings and did not keep him in suspense. He quickly moved the replanted Clivia from behind the cashier counter. After the Clivia took root again last time, Lu Lingxi changed the potting soil, disinfected the pot and soil, and carefully replanted it.

Unlike the sickly Clivia that Lao Han sent over, the Clivia that had re-rooted still looked a little thin, but its withered yellow leaves had begun to turn green, and even a few flower buds had appeared among the originally sparse small flowers, revealing a positive and vibrant feeling.

Old Han looked at the pot of Clivia with surprise and asked in a trembling voice, "Did it really survive?"

Lu Lingxi nodded. He was actually a little bit unconvinced. Although the panel indicated that the treatment was successful after he finished the treatment that day, he didn't feel relieved until the Clivia had taken root again, and he was sure that he had really saved the Clivia.

Looking at the new roots taking hold in the soil through the panel, Lu Lingxi felt not only a sense of accomplishment but also a joy that he shared with Old Han.
