"Sir, what's wrong?"
The worker, who had a cigarette dangling from his mouth, stopped and casually placed the safe on the ground.
They glanced at Lin Fan and thought he was being a bit nosy.
"He is our Factory Director Lin!"
Dai Lili walked up to them and said.
"Factory manager?"
The workers looked at each other, a hint of panic flashing in their eyes.
Lin Fan didn't speak, but paused to observe.
The safe's dark green exterior looked exceptionally heavy.
There are rust spots on the edges and corners, which means it was hidden away and oxidized due to lack of air circulation.
In addition, it is an old-fashioned cabinet, so although it looks heavy, it is not very sturdy.
"Where did this come from?"
Lin Fan stood up and asked.
"Director Lin, we found this item in a hidden compartment in the corner of the wall when we were demolishing the old warehouse."
"We felt that there was no value in leaving it here, so we thought we'd take it all out and sell it as scrap."
"And exchange some money for cigarettes while I'm at it."
A worker wearing a t-shirt wiped his sweat and quickly explained its origin.
He was rather timid and afraid that Lin Fan would catch him in the act.
"Keeping it is just in the way, so I might as well throw it away."
Another dark-skinned worker was about to signal the others to continue.
"Don't throw it away!"
Lin Fan pressed his palm down. "I need to keep this box; I still have a use for it."
"Huh? This old box is still useful?"
Several workers were a little unhappy.
If you sell recyclables, you should be able to have an extra meal for lunch.
Lin Fan noticed the expressions on the workers' faces, so he smiled and took out his wallet from his pocket.
Then he pulled out five hundred-yuan bills and handed them to them, saying with a smile, "This is a small token of my appreciation. Use it to buy some drinks for you guys."
"Thank you, Director Lin."
Upon seeing the 500 yuan, the workers immediately beamed with joy.
This money is more than enough to buy drinks, have a nice meal in the evening, and even buy a pack of good cigarettes for everyone.
As expected of the factory director, he's really generous!
"This is just an old safe, what good can it be?"
Dai Lili looked the safe up and down.
"Yes, Brother Lin, I can buy you a new one."
Gu Xinyan blinked her big eyes, equally puzzled.
Lin Fan didn't explain immediately, but simply walked around the safe.
"Hey guys, could you please find me a room and move the safe to that room over there?"
Lin Fan politely pointed in a direction.
This is a temporary command post, which Dai Lili usually uses when she rests and drinks water here.
"It's just a matter of a word!"
"Brothers, lend a hand, lift it!"
Since the factory manager had spoken, the workers didn't need to ask any more questions and simply carried the safe over there.
Lin Fan followed them into the shed and watched as the men put the safe down.
The workers turned and left.
"Lili, I need your help with something."
Lin Fan turned to Dai Lili and instructed, "Keep an eye out outside and don't let strangers near this shed."
"Yes, Director Lin."
Seeing his serious tone, Dai Lili walked out the door without saying a word and closed it behind her.
"Xinyan, could you get me some tools?"
Lin Fan pointed to the iron frame by the wall, which was covered with various construction tools.
He was referring to a military green toolbox.
"Okay, Brother Lin."
Gu Xinyan quickly went forward to get the tools.
Lin Fan pushed the safe further in, bringing it closer to the window so it would be easier to pry open the door later.
"Brother Lin, you don't actually think there's any treasure in here, do you?"
Gu Xinyan put down her tool bag and dusted off her hands.
She was full of curiosity, not understanding why Lin Fan would be interested in a dilapidated old safe.
"Just open it and you'll see."
Lin Fan took out a few tools from his bag, placed them on the ground, and then squatted down.
He first tried turning the rusty rotary lock.
The lock cylinder no longer turns as smoothly, clearly indicating that it is heavily rusted.
So he tried using a steel bar to align with the interface, and with his other hand holding a hammer, he struck hard, trying to pry open the box door.
"Bang!"
"Bang..."
He swung it twice with force.
The shockwave sent dust flying all around, and the smell of rust filled the air.
Lin Fan shook his hand holding the steel bar; the area between his thumb and forefinger was numb from the impact.
"Brother Lin, be careful."
Gu Xinyan was terrified and could only offer a cautious reminder.
"This lock is completely rusted shut; it definitely can't be opened using unlocking methods."
Lin Fan stroked his chin and frowned, saying, "It seems we have no choice but to break down the door by force."
"How exactly did you forcefully break down the door?"
Gu Xinyan covered her nose, almost coughing from the choking.
She had originally planned to open the window, but worried that Lin Fan might discover some secret, so she forced herself not to move.
"Don't rush... let me think."
Lin Fan looked around and his gaze fell on a pile of tools in the corner.
"Got it!"
His eyes lit up, and he said to Gu Xinyan, "Go and ask them for a power outlet."
"oh……"
Gu Xinyan agreed and took the opportunity to escape for some fresh air.
Lin Fan went to the pile of tools and took out two or three high-powered angle grinders.
Then, on the steel frame where the toolbox had just been placed, I took a few grinding wheel slices and replaced them with the correct ones.
"Brother Lin, the power strip has arrived."
Gu Xinyan had just opened the door and entered when she saw him holding several angle grinders. She was startled and asked, "What are you... going to do?"
"Hehe...of course, we should cut it open!"
