Chapter 5 Xi Xi is Crying

Chapter 5 Xi Xi is Crying

The sounds of students talking and running back to the science building could be heard downstairs. Lu Yu didn't even bother to look at her, indifferently stubbed out his cigarette, turned around, and went downstairs.

"roll."

"Don't fucking bother me."

Without a trace of hesitation, he walked down the stairs and turned towards the classroom. Luo Ying watched him leave with red eyes, biting her lower lip.

Lu Yu did not directly answer her question.

Does this mean she guessed correctly?

But why?! Meng Xi is just better at academics than her, has such an ordinary appearance, and always acts timid and submissive. What makes her so special?!

Luo Ying's temper flared up instantly. She went straight down the stairs to wait, just as Meng Xi and Song Siyu came up.

She raised her voice and called out, "Meng Xi!"

Meng Xi was chatting with Song Siyu with a faint smile on her face when she suddenly heard someone call out with ill intent, and her smile immediately disappeared.

Looking up, he saw Luo Ying staring at him with a furious expression.

"Luo Ying, what's wrong..." Meng Xi's heart skipped a beat when he saw her like this, and he subconsciously tightened his grip on Song Siyu's hand. "You called me, is there something you need?"

Seeing Meng Xi's weak and timid appearance, Luo Ying became even angrier and sneered, "What's wrong? Don't you know whether you stole someone's boyfriend or not?"

Her voice wasn't quiet, and the hallway was crowded with people coming and going. Many people stopped and looked in her direction when they heard her.

Many boys and girls were whispering and pointing, and some boys were even whistling and shouting, "This is going to be good!"

Surrounded by onlookers, Meng Xi's face flushed red to the roots of her ears, and she retorted in a low voice, "I didn't, Luo Ying, why are you talking nonsense?"

Luo Ying ignored her explanation and continued to accuse her sharply: "No? Lu Yu and I were fine yesterday, but after he saw you yesterday, he inexplicably broke up with me. Do you think I would believe that it wasn't you who did it?"

As she was speaking, several girls came up the stairs and called out to Luo Ying, "Yingying! Didn't you go for morning exercises? Hey, what's wrong?"

When Luo Ying saw that it was her best friend, her ugly expression finally softened a bit, and she said to them, "It's her, she's been flirting with Lu Yu behind his back!"

Several people were standing around Luo Ying, on the upper steps of the stairs. After hearing these words, their gazes towards her changed.

Meng Xi and Song Siyu stood below, unable to go up, and were stared at aggressively by them, looking like little white rabbits cornered by wolves and tigers.

She was timid by nature and not good at arguing with people. Being stared at by so many people made her so anxious that tears streamed down her face.

Song Siyu retorted without backing down: "Our Xixi has never spoken to Lu Yu, so how is it that she stole your boyfriend? I'm her best friend and I didn't even know that. You think there's no cost to spreading rumors? You got dumped and now you're spouting nonsense?"

"Everyone knows Lu Yu changes girlfriends frequently. You can't even attract your boyfriend, so why are you yelling like a shrew at the stairwell?!"

Luo Ying was hit where it hurt and retorted angrily, "I'm not attractive? I'm not as good-looking as you, but I'm better-looking than Meng Xi! I broke up with her yesterday after seeing Meng Xi. I was wondering why Meng Xi didn't leave when we were at the police station. Was she holding back?"

A girl next to Luo Ying said sarcastically, "So even the first-place student wants to climb the social ladder, huh? Don't you even look at your country bumpkin appearance?"

A group of onlookers chuckled softly.

Nobody knows right from wrong; the point is to enjoy the spectacle.

Meng Xi has always been first in her grade and has excellent grades. However, she is introverted and doesn't talk to people much. Whenever she smiles, she lowers her head and purses her lips, appearing very shy.

Very few people know her.

Who wouldn't want to see such an outstanding student, someone so admired, get embroiled in controversy and brought down from her pedestal?

One is a quiet and reserved top student in the grade, and the other is a notorious figure with a bad reputation.

These two together are undoubtedly the best topic of conversation.

Moreover, high school students are at the age when they are most innocent and curious about the appearance and feelings of boys and girls.

The idea that handsome men should be paired with beautiful women is a common-sense notion that almost everyone accepts.

Although Lu Yu was cold, irritable, and acted arrogantly and ruthlessly, it must be said that he was incredibly handsome. He was also wealthy, decked out in designer brands from head to toe, and drove a supercar the moment he turned 18.

Then look at Meng Xi. In this day and age, she still has thick bangs. She's not tall to begin with, and she always keeps her head down. Her clothes are also very ordinary.

Although she could be seen as a pretty girl, she was far less refined than Luo Ying, who was dressed so elegantly.

With such an ordinary appearance, and only excelling in her studies, she still wants to seduce Lu Yu?

Lu Yu didn't care about his academic performance at all.

Faced with the whispers and strange looks from the crowd, Meng Xi remained silent. She had always been obedient and well-behaved, and had never imagined that she would one day be the subject of such ridicule.

She firmly believes that right and wrong will be judged by history, and the innocent will be proven innocent.

If she says something she didn't do, and no one believes her, then saying it again will only have the same effect and escalate the conflict.

Her eyes were red, and she stopped talking.

Song Siyu was unwilling to let her good friend be slandered like this, so she stretched out her neck and retorted to Luo Ying, sneering, "A girl like you who comes out to curse without distinguishing right from wrong will never be truly liked by anyone in this life."

Luo Ying was furious: "You!"

"The teacher is here!"

They looked down and saw two teachers talking and carrying textbooks as they walked upstairs. The onlookers scattered in a panic.

Luo Ying glanced at Meng Xi resentfully and said, "This isn't over!"

Song Siyu wasn't afraid of them at all. She pulled Meng Xi along and walked upstairs, shoving aside a girl next to her and saying rudely, "Get out of the way! We have class!"

-

The full moon hangs high in the sky, and the bustling city gradually falls asleep. The night sky is adorned with countless stars, like a tranquil painting.

At 9:50 p.m., the lights at Qingwu No.1 Middle School remained on.

After a melodious school bell rang, the senior high school students, who had been studying hard for years, packed their bags and headed home in twos and threes toward the school gate.

Since what happened this morning, Meng Xi hasn't been in a good mood. Her error rate while doing practice tests has noticeably increased.

After watching as most of her classmates had left, she slowly got up from her seat and began packing the things she needed to take back to the Lu family home.

Song Siyu, who had already finished packing, looked at her with concern and asked, "Xi Xi, are you alright?"

Meng Xi was tidying up her things with her head down when she heard Song Siyu's voice. She looked up blankly and forced a smile: "I'm fine, Siyu. You should go home now. It's getting late and it's not safe on the road."

Seeing her trying to remain calm, Song Siyu felt sad too. She put down her schoolbag, stepped forward, and took her hand to comfort her, saying, "Xixi, don't think too much about it. Luo Ying is a top student in the science building, she shouldn't do anything too outrageous."

"Besides, why be upset about something you didn't do? Although our classmates haven't spent much time with you, we all know what kind of person you are. The college entrance exam is coming up soon, don't let this hold you back, okay? Cheer up."

Meng Xi looked at Si Yu with emotion, her eyes reddening as she nodded.

Half an hour later, Meng Xi walked back to the Lu family home alone.

The bodyguard on duty at the door greeted her politely: "Miss Meng."

Uncle Gu was still waiting at the door.

Upon seeing Meng Xi return, he smiled kindly and said, "Xi Xi is back. We've prepared a late-night snack at home. Have some before you go to rest."

Upon seeing Uncle Gu, Meng Xi's pent-up grievances finally burst forth. Seeing tears welling up, she quickly lowered her head and said in a low voice, "I'm not hungry, so I won't eat. Thank you, Uncle Gu."

Uncle Gu noticed her sob and knew she was reserved and didn't like to trouble others, so he asked gently, "Xi Xi, are you in a bad mood?"

Meng Xi quickly shook her head: "I didn't have a good time doing the problems today, but it's okay!"

She bowed to Uncle Gu, hurriedly went into her bedroom on the second floor, and locked the door from the inside.

Back in my room, tears streamed down my face like beads from a broken string.

It's been four years.

She thought she was strong enough.

Studying day and night, striving to get into a good university, and living cautiously.

She thought she could handle everything.

But it turned out to be a paper tiger, easily defeated.

The insecurity of being an orphan, the loneliness of having no one to rely on, the caution of living under someone else's roof, and the pressure of the college entrance examination all weighed heavily on her frail body, and even the slightest setback could cause her to collapse.

In truth, Meng Xi understood that today's incident was nothing more than a ridiculous accusation. But for her, it was the final straw that broke the camel's back after a long period of suppression.

Tears welled up in her eyes, and Meng Xi covered her mouth tightly, afraid to make a sound.

Not far away, a family photo of the three stood out prominently.

She misses her parents so much...

At the entrance of the Lu family's residence.

Lu Yu walked in with one hand in his pocket and the other smoking, his expression indifferent.

Uncle Gu frowned when he saw him like this, and his usually kind face showed some heartache: "Young Master."

Lu Yu stopped in his tracks, looked up at him, and his expression softened slightly. His gaze was indifferent, revealing no emotion.

"Uncle Gu".

“Smoking is harmful to your health. You are only 18 years old. If your wife knew that you started smoking before you finished high school, she would definitely be unhappy.”

Uncle Gu's wrinkled face and gray hair stood out starkly under the dim streetlights. Lu Yu looked at Uncle Gu and suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu. Uncle Gu had watched him grow up since childhood; more than a decade had passed in the blink of an eye.

I never realized it before, but he has grown old without me noticing.

For Lu Yu, his feelings for Uncle Gu were actually closer than those for his biological parents.

He silently suppressed his murderous aura and gave a faint sneer: "How many things have I done that are harmful to my health?"

Lowering his head and extinguishing his eyes, Lu Yu's dark eyes held an unfathomable expression: "I don't want to hear about her anymore."

Uncle Gu pleaded earnestly, "But after all, the lady..."

"Is there anything else, Uncle Gu?"

He coldly interrupted him.

Uncle Gu opened his mouth, but ultimately let out a heavy sigh. After a long while, he said, "Xi Xi came back today with her head down, crying. You and Xi Xi are in the same grade at the same school. Do you know what happened to her?"

Speaking of Meng Xi, Lu Yu suddenly remembered the day she helped him reduce the swelling with eggs.

Gentle and timid.

Like a cool breeze carrying fireflies on a summer night.

He collected his thoughts and replied casually, "Not familiar."

Uncle Gu sighed slightly and nodded, "Then young master, have something to eat and go rest."

Lu Yu had broad shoulders and long legs, and walked under the streetlights, appearing aloof and refined. The dim light shone on him, making his sharp indifference seem less pronounced.

He started to get a headache, so he skipped the first floor and went straight into the elevator.

As I pressed "5", I suddenly remembered what Uncle Gu had said.

“Xi Xi came back with her head down and crying.”

As if possessed, Lu Yu pressed "2," stood in front of Meng Xi's door, head slightly lowered, and knocked on the door.
