Chapter 7 Symptom Onset

Chapter 7 Symptom Onset

Meng Xi didn't understand why Lu Yu was reacting so strongly. The sharp pain in her chin and the fear in her heart made tears stream down her face. She could only shake her head desperately, her eyes red as she apologized, "I'm sorry... I... I didn't mean to make you angry. I was just being nosy. I'm sorry..."

The dimly lit room fell eerily silent, so quiet that only Meng Xi's suppressed sobs could be heard.

Lu Yu looked down and stared intently at her.

"Thud—"

A tear from Meng Xi rolled down onto the back of his hand.

In an instant, it stung Lu Yu like scalding lava.

He released his hand as if he had been electrocuted. At the same time, a headache surged through him like a tidal wave. Lu Yu held his forehead, his face looking extremely pale.

The pressure on Meng Xi's chin eased, leaving several bright red finger marks on both sides of her cheeks. Ignoring everything else, fearing Lu Yu would retaliate again, she retreated as if fleeing to the innermost corner of the room, cowering and watching him warily.

Lu Yu's headache became unbearable, and his face turned pale.

He rubbed his forehead and tried to look inside. Meng Xi was staring at him as if he were a monster. Her slender body was huddled in the corner, looking particularly miserable and pitiful.

When his condition flares up, he loses his rationality and does things that are beyond reason.

Meng Xi was not the first person to be hurt by his outbursts.

But he had never cared before.

But Meng Xi...

A pang of pity rose in Lu Yu's heart. Looking at the tears welling up in her eyes, he subconsciously hesitated whether to explain.

And then... I apologize again.

He has never apologized to anyone since he can remember.

Whether he was wrong or someone else was wrong, what's done is done, and it doesn't matter what others think.

But today, for the first time, he realized that he could feel guilty.

I feel guilty because of her.

Lu Yu took a deep breath, his cold eyes fixed on Meng Xi. The image of her standing on tiptoe to reduce his swelling seemed to reappear before his eyes.

Her eyes were gentle and soft, and she didn't even dare to look at him.

His movements remained gentle and careful.

He felt a sense of peace simply by being near her.

The more Lu Yu realized this, the more agitated he became.

The atmosphere suddenly froze, and the two remained silent.

Meng Xi, huddled in the corner, clutched the fabric in her hands, looking at Lu Yu at the door with a mixture of fear and wariness.

In the dead of night, a lone man and a lone woman.

Staying with a violent teenager who could go crazy at any moment had reached the breaking point that Meng Xi could bear.

She lived in the Lu family's house, cautious and timid, only seeking a little peace and quiet.

For four years, she had never discovered that beneath Lu Yu's coldness lay such an explosive, irritable, and terrifying side.

Before Lu Yu could speak, Meng Xi could no longer bear it. Her voice trembling, she cautiously asked, "Lu Yu...may I ask if you may leave now...?"

"I didn't mean anything by it, it's just that it's late and I want to rest..."

"...Will that be alright?"

Her voice was soft, almost a humble plea, sounding utterly helpless.

Lu Yu gazed at her silently, swallowing the explanation he had prepared. He had intended to apologize, but seeing Meng Xi's expression, it was clear she was terrified of him and unwilling to see him again.

Well then, let's just forget about it.

He turned around, gave Meng Xi a deep look, and closed the door.

The door was locked, and all was quiet.

Meng Xi's body seemed to have all its strength drained away, and she slumped softly to the ground.

Tears flowed silently.

I spent a sleepless night.

The next day, Meng Xi looked pale and left the Lu family early without even eating breakfast.

He looked listless and not in good spirits the whole way.

That night.

She cried while trying to comfort herself.

It is constantly being broken down and reassembled amidst collapse and helplessness.

As dawn broke, she still chose to be strong.

She has a brighter tomorrow and more important things to do.

We've made it through four years, so how can we let a few small things defeat us?

Give up at the slightest setback.

Even her parents in the afterlife would worry about her.

Meng Xi walked towards the school with her head down.

Lu Yu's words...

It's best if we never cross paths again in this lifetime.

She can repay the Lu family's kindness in other ways.

If she can't afford to offend them, she'll just avoid them.

Song Siyu smiled and waved to her at the school gate: "Xi Xi!"

Meng Xi looked up towards the door, smiled, and jogged over to Song Siyu, saying, "Siyu, why are you here so early today?"

"Don't even mention it! There were so many mosquitoes in the house last night, I couldn't sleep at all!" Song Siyu complained angrily, then suddenly remembered something and whispered to her with a happy smile, "But! I have something good for you!"

She pulled two tickets out of her coat pocket and proudly showed them off, saying, "Look!"

"I did well on the last mock exam, and my mom got two tickets from Happy Valley at an employee discount—let's go relax together!"

Meng Xi looked down at the two hard-copy tickets and smiled gently: "Your family paid for them, so it's better if you don't give them to me. You can take your brother instead."

Upon hearing this, Song Siyu protested, pouting, "My mom said it's for the two of us. What's so fun about my little brother being so small..."

"Oh dear, the college entrance exam is just around the corner, let's have one last celebration... okay, Xi Xi~"

Meng Xi smiled helplessly and said, "Alright then. But I'll treat you to dinner that day as a way of thanking you."

Song Siyu immediately beamed and put her arm around her shoulder to chat.

As they were chatting casually, Song Siyu suddenly looked up and saw Meng Xi's pale lips and bluish discoloration under her eyes. She asked worriedly, "Xi Xi, why do you look so pale? Were you bullied by Luo Ying when you got home last night?"

Meng Xi's mind flashed with Lu Yu's ruthless expression. She lowered her eyelashes, shook her head, and said softly, "No, I didn't sleep well last night either. I tossed and turned most of the night. Don't worry about me."

Without thinking much, Song Siyu said "oh" and pulled her into the classroom for morning reading.

We'll have three more days of classes before the three-day May Day holiday.

The senior high school students have a very short holiday, and they are all very excited about this brief period of celebration.

The weather is getting hotter and hotter.

It further inspires the students' pure, beautiful, passionate, and restless youth.

This foreshadows that in the near future, they will be facing a crucial hurdle in their lives.

From then on, they each went their separate ways, each with a bright future ahead of them.

All the rumors and things unrelated to grades were forgotten as soon as the teacher officially announced the May Day holiday.

The past few days have been calm and peaceful.

Meng Xi deliberately avoided any time when she might meet Lu Yu, and Luo Ying didn't cause her any trouble.

She gradually buried the bad things that happened that day deep in her heart.

The classroom erupted in chaos as the last bell rang before the holiday.

After a huge cheer, the science building was deserted in a very short time.

Meng Xi wasn't sure if Lu Yu would go straight home during the holiday, so she lingered in her seat, slowly packing her things.

Song Siyu, who had finished getting ready early, urged her excitedly, "Xi Xi, why are you so slow? I wanted to chat with you! Do you think I'll be cold wearing a skirt when we go out tomorrow?"

Meng Xi smiled faintly, took out the test paper, and said, "Didn't you want to ride the roller coaster? If you wear a skirt, you'll fly around. What if you expose yourself?"

Song Siyu clearly hadn't thought about this issue, and seemed a little embarrassed when the topic of wardrobe malfunction came up: "That's true..."

She hesitated for a moment with feigned seriousness, then said, "I'll find a short skirt with a base layer underneath, that should be fine."

Meng Xi smiled gently, picked up her backpack, and said, "Let's go, we'll talk on the way."

Song Siyu chattered excitedly, "There will definitely be a ton of people at Happy Valley tomorrow... Let's go early so we can ride more attractions. What should we eat for lunch... What if it gets too sunny... Should we bring sunscreen and a parasol...?"

She glanced at Meng Xi and smiled mischievously, "Xi Xi, I have two different colored skirts. I'll bring them to you tomorrow. You can wear matching outfits with me. I've never seen you in a skirt before; you'll definitely look amazing!"

Meng Xi was taken aback for a moment. She immediately pressed her advantage: "Just consider it a high school souvenir! Anyway, I won't wear it at school."

Under Song Siyu's extremely enthusiastic invitation, Meng Xi thought about it and felt that it wasn't something that was too difficult to accept, so she could only nod and agree.

The two discussed their plans for tomorrow for quite a while before going their separate ways to go home.

When Meng Xi returned home and found that Lu Yu was not there, she breathed a slight sigh of relief.

After having dinner with Uncle Gu, she went back to her room, locked the door, and took a shower.

She dried her hair and lay on the bed looking at travel guides on her phone.

The best route to visit Happy Valley, and a good place to have lunch.

I haven't spent much of the money Uncle Gu gave me last time; I still have over four thousand left, enough to treat Siyu to a big meal.

She was usually very frugal, always thinking that she could save as much as possible and spend less of the Lu family's money, so that she would feel less indebted to them and feel better.

As long as her aunt's family stops begging her...

Meng Xi put away the unhappy memories, saw several well-regarded shops on the fourth floor of the large shopping mall next to Happy Valley, picked out a few options, and then turned off the lights and slept soundly.

Happy Valley during the May Day holiday.

The entire park is decorated with a great atmosphere.

Giant balloon arches and cartoon characters, architectural beauty, and festive music.

A fairly long queue formed early in the morning.

Everyone's face was beaming with smiles, and the place was bustling with noise.

A huge crowd of people were waiting to enter the park at the main gate.

Many people were taking selfies and chatting with their friends. Meng Xi stood under a tree to the left of the main entrance, waiting for Song Siyu.

A cute little girl came running over quickly, carrying her bag, and excitedly called out, "Xi Xi!"

Meng Xi looked up at her and smiled sweetly, "I'm here!"

Song Siyu shoved a bag into Meng Xi's hand, her nose glistening with sweat as she urged her, "Go to the fitting room over there and change your clothes. I'll wait for you here."

Meng Xi smiled and nodded, took the bag and walked towards the fitting room.

A rooftop bar in a nearby shopping mall, with floor-to-ceiling windows.

A languid young man leaned back in a leather chair, smoking, his expression indifferent and aloof. A group of young men and women of similar age sat before him. In terms of position, he was practically the center of attention.

The boys looked arrogant and frivolous, while the girls wore revealing clothes and exquisite makeup.

One of the boys picked up a glass of wine and loudly cheered, "Today, Brother Yu is paying for everything! Come on, let's all toast Brother Yu!"
