Chapter 23 Enemies?
June 7th
It started drizzling outside early in the morning, and it felt a little stuffy inside.
Meng Xi packed her exam supplies into her small bag. As soon as she stepped outside, she felt a slight chill in the air. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her nervous and anxious heart.
She heard the sound of unhurried footsteps beside her. Lu Yu was carrying a transparent stationery bag for exams, containing only a few stationery items, and walked towards her with a nonchalant expression.
When he saw her turn around and raise her eyebrows slightly, he vaguely recalled the wet kiss he had given her against the door the night before last.
Unrestrained enthusiasm.
He later realized that he had been somewhat impulsive, wondering how he could be so restless at home.
But then again, what's wrong with being at home?
This place is originally his home.
It's only natural for him to kiss the people he wants to kiss in his own home.
A different kind of emotion welled up in Lu Yu's cool eyes, and his expression as he stared at Meng Xi unconsciously became turbulent.
Meng Xi's mind was completely occupied with the upcoming college entrance examination, and she didn't think about anything else.
Seeing Lu Yu arrive and head to the examination hall, she smiled and greeted him in a soft, gentle voice, "Good morning, Lu Yu."
Lu Yu didn't know how well he was doing with his revision, or how confident he was.
Meng Xi prayed silently.
I hope he can get into a four-year university...
However, she had already decided to stay in Qingwu, so it didn't seem that important what school Lu Yu applied to.
After this thought came to mind, Meng Xi's worries subsided considerably. She simply encouraged him, "Don't be nervous during the exam, don't fall asleep, and do your best."
Lu Yu: ...
Don't fall asleep?
Is he really that unreliable in Meng Xi's eyes?
Lu Yu found it somewhat amusing, but he was too lazy to expose her, so he simply pretended to be funny.
He gave a lazy "hmm" and good-naturedly agreed, "Okay—"
The roads to the various examination venues were extremely congested during the two days of the college entrance examination. Even if the Lu family was very wealthy, they couldn't afford to fly over in someone else's car, so they set off early to try not to waste time on the road.
As we approached Qingwu No.1 Middle School, bright red banners were hung on both sides of the road.
Meng Xi looked through the rain-drenched car window.
Good luck on the college entrance exam!
"Ten years to forge a sword."
"Let's burn our boats and fight for every last drop of sunshine!"
...
Meng Xi was naturally sentimental, and seeing this, her nose inexplicably tingled, and she secretly cheered herself up.
Go Meng Xi!
You must become the person you want to be!
She quietly wiped away the tears that had escaped her eyes with her fingers. Lu Yu, standing behind her, casually looked at the back of her head and spoke as if by accident, his voice a nonchalant joke: "Meng Xi, you're crying?"
Meng Xi: ...
Are boys this perceptive too?
"No," Meng Xi retorted softly, lacking confidence. "What do I have to cry about?"
Lu Yu didn't say anything, but handed over a piece of paper from behind him, his voice soft and coaxing: "Wipe it."
Uncle Gu glanced at the two children discreetly through the rearview mirror from the passenger seat and smiled silently.
We arrived at Qingwu No.1 Middle School quickly.
Meng Xi and Lu Yu stepped out of an eye-catching luxury car, drawing the attention of the crowded people around them.
Some who recognized them pointed and said to their companions, "Hey! Aren't those Lu Yu and Meng Xi!"
"Lu Yu is really that handsome! I thought he was just exaggerating?"
...
Meng Xi is certainly not known by many people; it is Lu Yu who is famous.
Lu Yu's reputation was astonishing throughout all the high schools in Qingwu.
Because of what happened before, Meng Xi also gained some fame.
Previously, she would never have agreed to get out of the same car as Lu Yu.
However, now that they have graduated from high school and are about to enter university, she no longer needs to worry about it affecting her studies, so she chose to be open about it. After all, she was fostered by the Lu family, and apart from the trouble, it was not an embarrassing thing.
Meng Xi only had the college entrance exam in her eyes, while Lu Yu only had Meng Xi in his eyes.
They walked into the school gate as if no one else was around.
The two students were in their exam rooms, one on the left and one on the right, quite far apart.
As Meng Xi walked to the middle and was about to turn right, Lu Yu looked down at her and called out, "Meng Xi."
Meng Xi turned to look at him, her beautiful eyes filled with calmness and determination.
Lu Yu stared at her intently, his heart pounding. After a few seconds of silence, a faint smile appeared on his lips: "Good luck."
Meng Xi smiled sweetly: "You too."
The morning's exams ended quickly.
When Meng Xi came out of the examination room and was about to look for her small bag, she found that she couldn't find it anywhere.
They were not allowed to bring anything into the examination room; their personal belongings were placed on two tables outside, one for each of the two classrooms.
Her bag contained a small study booklet and a cell phone. They weren't big, and they were placed on the far left. How could she not find them?
Seeing that there were fewer and fewer people around her, and that Lu Yu was probably still waiting for her at the door, she became so anxious that tears almost welled up in her eyes. She silently bit her lower lip and slowly turned over the pages on the table.
"Hey, is this your stuff?"
Upon hearing the sound, Meng Xi straightened up from her squatting position in front of the table and turned to look to her left.
A tall, thin boy stood against the wall in the left corridor, wearing a loose black short-sleeved shirt, exuding nonchalance.
He had handsome features, but there was an inexplicable air of swagger about him. The bag slung loosely over his shoulder looked quite expensive.
He condescended to extend a finger, hooking it on the strap of her small bag, and looked down at the petite girl in front of him. He paused for a moment when he saw Meng Xi's face clearly, but quickly regained his original expression.
He smirked and slowly, drawing out his words, "—Yours?"
Meng Xi's tearful eyes immediately lit up, and she reached out to take her things.
The boy chuckled, then slid the strap onto her wrist, looking down at Meng Xi and kindly explaining, "It fell out of my bag when someone pushed it."
After saying that, he turned to leave, but for some reason, he felt a little irritated even though he had done a good deed: "Stop, no need to thank me."
Thanks……
Meng Xi forced back the gratitude in her heart.
She grabbed her things and hurried downstairs to the main entrance, just as she saw Lu Yu coming up to find her.
"Lu Yu?" Meng Xi was a little surprised that Lu Yu would come up.
Lu Yu glanced discreetly at the end of the corridor before asking Meng Xi, "Are you alright?"
Meng Xi shook her head and briefly explained the situation: "I couldn't find my bag just now, but then I found out that it had fallen into someone else's bag. Luckily, it wasn't lost."
Lu Yu didn't speak. As he walked downstairs side by side with Meng Xi, Meng Xi asked gently, "How did the exam go this morning? Are you confident?"
Actually, her question was meant to show concern, hoping that Lu Yu could get as high a score as possible, but she didn't really have high hopes.
Unexpectedly, a smile subtly curved the corners of Young Master Lu's lips, and he spoke with a relaxed and confident tone: "An exam? Easy."
"I was the first to finish writing it."
Meng Xi turned her head to look at the confident Lu Yu, speechless for a moment.
His pride is incurable.
Good.
By this time, most of the students had left the school. The lunch break was neither too long nor too short. The rain had stopped and the sun was shining brightly outside, so the two of them walked at a fairly fast pace.
When Meng Xi walked, she always looked straight ahead at the road, without glancing to the side.
Lu Yu's gaze, however, was almost entirely fixed on Meng Xi.
Meng Xi's skin looked even whiter in the sunlight. She was much smaller than Lu Yu. Lu Yu looked down at her and suddenly had an urge to hug her tightly.
He was always very peaceful when he was with Meng Xi.
There wasn't even a trace of his temper.
As soon as he gets close to Meng Xi, he can feel her presence, her voice, and her expressions; it's as if every cell in his body is cheering.
It was like being redeemed.
Although I haven't won her over yet.
But Lu Yu knew that Meng Xi had feelings for him.
Although it wasn't explicitly stated, nor was the trajectory in her mind clear.
She can only belong to him.
Just as they stepped out of the school gate, Lu Yu suddenly leaned slightly forward and hooked Meng Xi's finger.
"Meng Xi".
"Um?"
There were only a few people standing at the school gate, and the few vehicles and pedestrians coming and going were also few and far between. Even the people who had set up tents on both sides to promote the distribution of water were gone.
Meng Xi wasn't worried about being discovered, but she still felt a little uncomfortable standing with Lu Yu in such a public place, looking so intimate.
A slight blush rose to her cheeks as she looked up at Lu Yu and asked, "What's wrong?"
Before Lu Yu could finish speaking, he noticed her expression was off. He reached out and pinched her smooth, porcelain-like face, his eyes darkening slightly: "Why are you blushing, hmm?"
Meng Xi subconsciously retorted in a low voice, "I didn't..."
The moment her face touched Lu Yu's fingers, she was surprised to find them a little cool despite the hot weather.
This means she really did blush just now.
They're probably even more famous now.
It's still very hot.
Just as Lu Yu was about to speak, a girl's voice came from not far away: "Lu Yu?"
Surprise, astonishment, hesitation—all sorts of emotions converge in these two words.
It is a story that is thought-provoking.
Meng Xi looked into the distance, and Lu Yu's expression quickly turned cold.
It is a camel.
Lu Yu never gave anyone a friendly look except for Meng Xi.
She appeared before Luo Ying together with Lu Yu, and this time Meng Xi was very composed.
She owes no one anything, and she has never wronged Luo Ying.
However, these two days are not suitable for any emotional fluctuations, and as a top student in the science and technology building, Luo Ying is even less likely to choose to linger on these two days.
What is she going to do?
Just as Meng Xi hesitated, Luo Ying walked over from beside her companions. She looked up at Lu Yu with a hint of tears in her eyes.
"Lu... are you alright?"
Luo Ying was a little flustered. She wiped her eyes, removing the tears that had fallen, and said with great comfort and joy, "Liu Wei told me everything. I thought something had happened to you..."
Under the scorching midday sun.
Lu Yu was afraid that Meng Xi would get sunburned, and he felt impatient.
His eyes were slightly lowered, his expression cold and dismissive: "Get out."
Meng Xi was a little confused.
She didn't know Liu Wei, let alone Shen Kangsheng.
She never asked why after that rainy night.
Meng Xi thought that Lu Yu had offended someone who was not easy to deal with, and chose to remain silent for fear of hurting his self-esteem.
Lu wanted to protect Meng Xi and didn't want his girl to be sad.
The next day he had someone investigate the matter.
So if it weren't for Luo Ying, he would never have wanted Meng Xi to know that those heartless thugs were actually planning to harm a girl.
He will naturally find an opportunity to deal with this group of people properly.
But not now.
"Lu Yu, what is she saying?" Meng Xi thought for a moment and asked tentatively, "...Is she your enemy?"
Lu Yu's expression remained unchanged: "Yes."
