Extra 4: The Clouds Are Empty, the Dreams Are Beautiful (Part 1)
There is a Tushita Palace on the thirty-third heaven. The owner of the Tushita Palace is Taiqing Daode Tianzun, who is the legendary Taishang Laojun. All gods and immortals respectfully call him Laojun.
Several immortal children also resided within the Tushita Palace. The most well-known of these were the Golden and Silver Spirit children, who often accompanied Laojun. They guarded the Golden and Silver Furnaces, respectively. While the other children weren't as highly regarded by Laojun as the Golden and Silver Spirits, they each performed their duties and were generally well-behaved.
Among these many fairy children, there was one whom everyone called the Little Deaf Man.
The little deaf boy was not really deaf. Laojun once named him "Yunxu". However, no matter what he did, he always liked to suddenly become dazed for no reason. No matter how others called him, they could not bring him back to his senses, so he got this nickname.
No one knew what he was thinking. It was precisely because he was always like this that he would often miss the timing of Laojun's alchemy furnace and ruin several furnaces of elixirs.
It would be fine on normal days, but if it is assigned by the Divine Court, it would be a big disaster.
Fortunately, Laojun did not punish him too much. He just laughed and scolded him a few times, then sent him to sweep the courtyard.
As for the thirty-three heavens, what else needed to be cleaned? Laojun simply found an excuse and let him go.
Shouldn't you take care of your own children?
This actually made things convenient for the little deaf boy. Whenever a group of boys went to work, they would always see him sitting motionless under the sacred tree in the courtyard with a broom in his arms. He didn't get annoyed when the boys laughed at him and called him a "fool". He just sat there in a daze, completely ignoring them.
It was unknown how long this went on, but suddenly one day, when the little deaf boy was sitting under the sacred tree in a daze as usual, he smelled a strange fragrance in his nose.
I've never smelled any fragrance here all day, so why is it so strange today? Could this old tree be becoming a spirit?
The rich fragrance made people's minds clear. The little deaf boy looked at the sacred tree curiously, but the old tree was still the same, without any change.
This is really strange, is it an illusion?
The little deaf boy rubbed his nose suspiciously and sat back, but accidentally touched a blade of grass.
The leaves of this grass are as broad as eggs, with rounded and sharp tips. If ordinary people saw them, they would just think they were ordinary. However, the little deaf boy was born in the Tushita Palace and had never been out, so he was very curious.
And the fragrance actually came from this little grass, but for some reason, the grass seemed a little wilted, with its broad leaves slightly curled, and it looked like it was about to die.
Could it be a lack of water? That's not possible!
There is mist shrouding the divine court. Although there is no clear water, there is no shortage of water, so even ordinary grass can survive as usual.
If it is not caused by water shortage, then what is the reason?
The little deaf boy was puzzled, but then he thought it was a bit unnecessary.
The purpose of sweeping the Tushita Palace is to remove these debris.
There are often some seeds that come from the mortal world on the wind. Most things in the mortal world are born from turbid air. In order to avoid disturbing the pure air used by Laojun to refine the elixir, they must be cleaned up.
He is very conscientious!
The little deaf boy reached out to pull it out, but hesitated the moment he did so, feeling inexplicably irritated.
Shrouded in divine light, a little fairy boy sat under the sacred tree, leaning on a broom in one hand and reaching for the grass with the other, as motionless as a painting.
Yes, that's right, the little deaf boy is in a daze again...
As for why the little deaf boy would always suddenly become dazed for inexplicable reasons, no one had ever delved into it. Those boys just thought it was fun. After all, the days in the Divine Court were long and boring, so they just treated it as an extra entertainment.
A breeze suddenly blew up, making the golden leaves and silver fruits on the sacred tree jingle. The little deaf boy came back to his senses at the sound. He shook his head and said it was a close call. If his senior brothers saw it, they would accuse him of being lazy.
The little deaf boy wrinkled his nose and made a move to pull out the grass, but stopped again when he touched the blade of grass.
He was stunned again!
Just as the little deaf boy was stunned, a voice came faintly from behind his head, scaring him so much that he almost jumped three times.
"Thinking about something again?"
The man who came had neat hair and a beard that reached his waist. He had an imposing aura and was dignified without even being angry. He was actually the Emperor Ziwei of the North Pole in the Central Sky.
The little deaf boy naturally recognized such an important figure. When he first met him, he felt that Emperor Ziwei was majestic and awe-inspiring, and he was a little scared in his heart. But after seeing him more often, he found that this old man was really a bit unserious.
How could the little deaf boy know that the Ziwei Emperor was so kind to him only.
"Why is it you again? You always come to our Tushita Palace for no reason. I'm afraid you are here to ask for money?" The little deaf boy bowed hastily and muttered with his eyes rolled.
"Hey! What nonsense are you talking about? You're so outspoken! Be careful or I'll report you to Laojun and see if he'll give you a beating!" Ziwei Emperor feigned anger and gently slapped the deaf boy on the head. He stroked his long beard and said seriously, "I've come all the way here to discuss Taoism with Laojun. It's serious business!"
The deaf boy curled his lips in disbelief and said perfunctorily, "Yes, yes, it's business. After the business, it's time to ask for the elixir." Then he pursed his lips and said, "Master should still be teaching in the main hall now. If you hurry up, you should be able to catch up with the conclusion." After saying that, he sat down and ignored Emperor Ziwei.
Emperor Ziwei was not annoyed. He laughed loudly and went to the main hall, leaving the little deaf boy alone under the tree to continue to be in a daze.
After an unknown amount of time, the little deaf boy came to his senses again and remembered that he still had work to do. He then reached out to pull out the grass leaf.
At this moment, an urgent shout from behind interrupted the little deaf boy's movements, followed by a burst of messy and hurried footsteps.
"Don't move, boy!"
The little deaf boy naturally knew who the visitor was. It was his master, Taishang Laojun.
Laojun's hair and beard were all white, and his originally kind face was now extremely flustered, as if he had been frightened to death. He took two steps at a time and walked towards the little deaf man, but looked past him at the grass. He rubbed his hands together helplessly, wanting to touch the grass but afraid of hurting it.
"Master, what's wrong with you?" The little deaf boy was very curious. He had never seen Laojun like this before.
"Tong'er! This is... this is..." Laojun was so excited that his face turned red. He kept saying "but" for a long time but couldn't explain it clearly.
At this moment, Emperor Ziwei appeared from nowhere, stroking his beard, with an expression of watching the fun: "They said they saw this grass shrouded in brilliant light just now, it's true!"
Brilliance? Where is the brilliance? Why didn't he see it?
The little deaf boy was confused and looked at Emperor Ziwei with a bewildered look. The Emperor smiled and stroked his head.
"In ancient times, there was a magical medicine, nurtured by the energy of heaven and earth, that had the power to bring back the dead. It was called 'Spirit Fragrance' and was rarely seen in a thousand years." Then, pretending to be mysterious, he leaned close to the deaf boy's ear and said, "It is said that Xing Tian took this medicine and survived despite being beheaded."
Spiritual incense?
The deaf boy turned his head away and looked at the blade of grass with clear eyes.
"But it's almost dead..."
If he can bring the dead back to life, why can't he save himself?
