Chapter 11 Gift

Chapter 11 The Gift

Yun Zhaozhao's words were very damaging. Pei Jiuyan's pupils shrank sharply. He rolled around a few times while roaring before finally uttering a single sentence.

"Yun Zhaozhao, you're determined to go to the hospital with me, no matter what."

"Pei Jiuyan, go to hell!"

Pei Jiuyan was not dead; he even forcibly brought her into the car.

The two didn't say a word in the car. When the car started, Pei Jiuyan said, "I don't believe a single word you said today."

"Zhaozhao, don't try to provoke me like this. If Brother Jiu is really angry, you'll be the one who suffers."

Yun Zhaozhao gave a cold laugh and didn't say anything. She looked out the window, but what she was thinking about was how Pei Jiuyan looked lying on the hospital bed back then.

At that time, she and Pei Jiuyan had just had a fight. She received a phone call saying that Pei Jiuyan was dying. She didn't believe it at the time, thinking that Pei Jiuyan was lying to her.

Finally, she arrived at the hospital and saw Pei Jiuyan lying motionless in the intensive care unit.

At that moment, she felt like her world was collapsing. Before she could even walk over, the clerk knelt down in front of her, sobbing uncontrollably, and said he would never compete with her again.

At the time, she knew nothing; she only had one thought in her mind: what would she do if something happened to Pei Jiuyan?

She couldn't understand a word the document said.

Later, Pei Jiuyan woke up, and she went to the hospital every day to take care of her. But when she arrived, she found that the clerk had arrived earlier than her. She took care of her three meals a day, served her tea and water, and did not miss a thing.

But even feeding Pei Jiuyan water made her clothes wet.

It was only after Pei Jiuyan woke up that she learned that Pei Jiuyan had gotten into trouble while trying to save the documents.

Unsure what the document had done to offend anyone, Pei Jiuyan rushed over upon receiving the news. He protected the document from any injury, but he himself was nearly beaten to death.

When she heard about this, she cried for a long time; she could no longer lie to herself.

From the first moment she saw Pei Jiuyan, she was captivated. After finishing her college entrance exams, when her family celebrated her coming-of-age birthday, she mustered up the courage to ask Pei Jiuyan if he wanted to be with her.

Pei Jiuyan was clearly taken aback for a moment, but finally nodded and said he could give it a try.

That was her happiest time, but it didn't last long before she couldn't be happy anymore, because there were always clerks around them.

She was a little unhappy at the time, so Pei Jiuyan explained that the document had saved Pei's mother and was their family's benefactor. She was all alone, so he treated her like a younger sister.

She was very easily fooled back then; she genuinely believed it and thought that since she was the sister-in-law, she should treat the clerk well.

So every time Pei Jiuyan took Wenshu home or accompanied her shopping, even though she was incredibly jealous, she forced herself to hold it in and gave Wenshu many gifts in an attempt to get closer to her.

She told herself that she was the sister-in-law and couldn't be stingy.

Besides, she's just his sister; I'm his girlfriend.

All of this was shattered by Pei Jiuyan's injury. She didn't want to continue, cried all night, and broke up with Pei Jiuyan the next day.

She didn't even dare to go to the hospital to tell Pei Jiuyan in person, afraid that she would feel reluctant to part with him if she saw him, so she only dared to call him.

That night, Pei Jiuyan sneaked out of the hospital and told her that there had never been anyone else there, and that Wenshu had gone abroad and would never come back.

She thought there were no obstacles between them, and couldn't wait to marry Pei Jiuyan as soon as she graduated.

It wasn't until a little over a year ago, when she overheard a conversation between Pei Jiuyan and her son, that she learned that Pei's mother had always wanted the clerk as her daughter-in-law, and that everyone even thought that she had sent someone to cause trouble for the clerk out of jealousy.

She waited for Pei Jiuyan to speak up for her, but in the end, all she got was a single sentence from him:

"What's past is past, let's not talk about it."

At that moment, she felt like she was about to shatter.

The car quickly stopped in front of the hospital, which was the Zhou family's hospital.

Pei Jiuyan didn't rush to get out of the car, but instead instructed, "Don't say anything when you get up there, just leave it to me."

He knew the little princess's mouth; if she opened it, she could knock everyone away on equal terms.

Pei Jiuyan's words went unanswered for a long time. He frowned and looked at Yun Zhaozhao, only to find that she had fallen asleep at some point, and her eyes were full of tears.

Pei Jiuyan was startled and quickly reached out to carefully pull Yun Zhaozhao into his arms.

However, as soon as he moved, Yun Zhaozhao woke up and looked at him with eyes full of hatred, her outstretched hand stopping in mid-air.

He looked at Yun Zhaozhao again, only to find that her eyes had returned to their coldness, as if it had all been his illusion.

Why are you crying?

"Is your stomach hurting again?"

He didn't say anything, so Yun Zhaozhao didn't even realize she was crying. She casually wiped her face and said, "I drank too much water, and it overflowed."

Pei Jiuyan didn't speak, but stared at Yun Zhaozhao for a while before saying, "Don't worry, I'm here, I won't let you suffer any injustice."

Yun Zhaozhao rolled her eyes.

She stopped believing that more than a year ago.

Yun Zhaozhao and Pei Jiuyan arrived at the special care ward, which was specially prepared for the wealthy. It was almost like a five-star hotel, and people who didn't know better would think that this was not a hospital stay but a vacation.

Pei's mother was also there, and upon seeing Yun Zhaozhao, her face immediately turned cold.

Yun Zhaozhao naturally didn't give her a friendly look either. So what if she gave him the cold shoulder? Anyone can do that.

Pei Jiuyan squeezed Yun Zhaozhao's hand, signaling her to be quiet, and then he said:

"Mom, Zhao Zhao heard that Wen Shu had a miscarriage, so she came to check on her."

As he spoke, he handed the gift he had prepared in advance to the clerk, saying, "Your sister-in-law specially prepared this for you."

The document was accepted with a look of delight, and opened it in front of Yun Zhaozhao. Inside was a glass bracelet made of incense ash from Wanfo Temple.

The peace bracelets from Wanfo Temple are extremely rare and highly sought after, with only a few dozen made each year.

Yun Zhaozhao didn't know when Pei Jiuyan had prepared this, but she could only say that Pei Jiuyan truly cared for his younger sister.

Wenshu seemed very happy to see the bracelet.

"Thank you, Zhao... sister-in-law."

Yun Zhaozhao raised an eyebrow. "No need to thank me, it wasn't me who prepared it."

Upon hearing this, the clerk blushed slightly and then glanced at Pei Jiuyan.

Pei Jiuyan frowned slightly and said, "Your sister-in-law is just like that, stubborn on the outside but soft on the inside."

Yun Zhaozhao was too lazy to watch their act and directly held out her hand to Pei Jiuyan: "Give me your wallet!"

Pei Jiuyan didn't know what she was going to do, but he still indulged her by stuffing his wallet into her hand. These days, he was the only one who always carried his wallet with him.

Yun Zhaozhao took the wallet, her hand pausing slightly. This wallet was a birthday gift she gave him the year they got married, saying that she would manage all his money from now on, so she was giving him this wallet as a gift.

Pulling herself out of her thoughts, Yun Zhaozhao took out two hundred-yuan bills and placed them on the table.

"Take this and buy a teacup, brew it properly, so the smell of tea doesn't linger everywhere."

"Oh, right, this is for you."

Yun Zhaozhao took off her watch and threw it on the table: "Green tea and watches, a perfect match!"
