Chapter 252 Don’t Accuse Me

Chapter 252 Don’t Accuse Me

Zhuang's mother stood in the yard holding a cloth bag, looking around.

The vegetables on one side of the yard are growing well, and clothes are hanging on the right side.

I have to say that Zhu Xiu Yu is very capable and keeps her house in tidy order.

She pushed the door open and walked in. The family was having breakfast.

White porridge and pie.

Everyone looked up at her in surprise at the same time.

"Mom, why are you here?" Zhuang Chaoying stood up in surprise.

Zhuang's mother snorted softly and sat down at the table.

"Mom, you haven't had breakfast yet. I'll get you some porridge." Zhu Xiu Yu said as she went to the kitchen and got a bowl of porridge and placed it in front of Zhuang's mother.

Zhuang's mother grabbed a pie and ate it without any hesitation.

It tastes greasy when you eat it.

The filling is made with some leftover preserved vegetables, broth and some green vegetables from the preserved vegetable braised pork with preserved vegetables we had yesterday.

"You have a good life!" Zhuang's mother chuckled.

"Tuanan came back for dinner yesterday. Xiuyu knew he liked it, so she made this." Zhuang Chaoying explained.

"You're worried that others will say that she's a bad stepmother, right?" Zhuang's mother said as she tore the bread, "You..."

"Grandma, come here, some pickles." Pengfei interrupted her.

The following breakfast time was like pressing the accelerator key.

After everyone quickly finished their meal, Hongbin went to school and Pengfei went to find Dongzhe.

Zhu Xiuyu sent Hongbin to the gate of the courtyard and said, "Be careful. If you don't understand, ask the teacher or Tunan."

"Mom, don't worry!" Hongbin answered, but his eyes were looking into the house.

Zhu Xiuyu smiled and nodded at him, telling him not to worry.

"Aunt, I'm leaving too. Aunt Song knew that I went to play with Dongzhe today, so she probably saved lunch for me. I won't be back to eat." Pengfei also said goodbye to Zhu Xiu Yu.

"Okay, if there is no food left, bring Dongzhe home to eat. I will be at home all day and can cook for you anytime." Zhu Xiu Yu said gently.

"Okay, I understand."

Zhu Xiu Yu didn't turn back until the two children had left the alley.

Back in the house, she slowly cleared the table, washed dishes in the kitchen, and listened to Zhuang Chaoying and her mother talking.

"Mom, now that you're here, who will take care of Dad?" Zhuang Chaoying asked.

"You still remember that Pengfei came here more often than you did when you had a sick father. Yes, this family is so good now, why would you want to go back? We will just consider it a waste of time raising you."

Mother Zhuang twisted the new sheet on Zhuang Chaoying's bed. It was of good quality. She sat on the bed and continued:

"I know we're a burden to you, but no matter what, we gave birth to you and raised you. You can't just ignore us. Unless we die, you have to take care of me."

"When did I say I don't care about you guys anymore? What's going on this time?" Zhuang Chaoying's ears were numb from hearing these words.

"Ask your wife, isn't she the one who makes the decisions in your family now?" Zhuang's mother raised her chin.

"What do you mean she's the one making the decision? Just tell me if you have something to say!" Zhuang Chaoying was very unhappy when he heard this.

"You said the debt was paid off, but you haven't given us a penny since the Chinese New Year. Is that right? Do you know how much your father needs for medicine every month?"

"No, Dad's medical treatment is free! Just go to the hospital to get the medicine."

"The medicines in those hospitals are not effective at all. I asked for a prescription and asked for Chinese medicine, but you have to buy the herbs yourself. Your father has been taking them for a few months and has gotten much better. He can speak much more clearly."

"And then?" Zhuang Chaoying sighed.

"That day, I was buying herbs at the herbal medicine store outside the Chinese Medicine Hospital and happened to meet your wife. I asked her to come back and discuss with you about giving us some subsidies, because the price of Chinese medicine is still relatively low at this time. If the price goes up, we will be even more unaffordable.

She's amazing! She promised everything, but I waited for half a month and you didn't even make a move! She doesn't even take me and your dad seriously!"

"No, Mom, that's not what I meant. Don't accuse me!" Zhu Xiuyu wiped the water off her hands and walked out.

"I'm still wronging you. Chaoying doesn't even know about this. You haven't told him at all!" Zhuang's mother said hatefully.

"I didn't tell him. You know I was fired before the New Year, and I started to prepare to start a small business after the New Year, which also requires investment. The two of us helped pay off the debts and raised three children, so we didn't have much surplus. How could we give you money?"

Zhu Xiuyu sat next to Zhuang Chaoying.

"I didn't tell Chaoying because I was afraid he'd get anxious. He's already been so busy worrying about my work and my kids' college enrollment. It's so tiring. If you ask for money again, won't he get anxious?"

As Zhu Xiuyu spoke, she put her arm around Zhuang Chaoying.

"Besides, your medicine isn't that urgent. Didn't I ask you how long the medicine you have can last? If it really comes to a point where there's no medicine for the next meal, how could I not discuss this with Chaoying?"

Zhuang Chaoying glanced at Zhu Xiuyu and nodded: "Mom, Xiuyu is not that kind of person."

"It's not that we have nothing to eat now, we have to stock up on medicine! Didn't you come to me two days ago and say you would give me money yesterday? I waited until last night but didn't get any money from you." Zhuang's mother watched the interaction between the two with a look of disgust on her face.

"Oh, look at me. I've been thinking about Hongbin's college application these days. I haven't been eating or sleeping well, and I forgot to talk about this with Chaoying." Zhu Xiu Yu slapped her thigh.

"Hmph, I see you just don't want to give it." Zhuang's mother sneered.

"Really? I really forgot, Chaoying, believe me. Why did I say it was yesterday? Yesterday was when I settled the bill with the kitchen I rented. I thought I'd know how much I'd earned this month after that. As long as I didn't lose money, I'd give whatever I earned to Mom to buy medicine."

Zhu Xiuyu looked at Zhuang Chaoying pitifully.

"Mom, yes, she was settling the bill yesterday and was so busy that she forgot. It doesn't matter if you take a day or two. Don't think so badly of her!" Zhuang Chaoying chimed in.

"Well, let's assume that what she said makes sense. Give it to me now! Haven't we already paid the bill?" Zhuang's mother pressed on, as if she wasn't going to leave until she got the money.

"Mom, I really didn't make any money this month, and because I started learning to sell beverages, I put some money in when I bought some goods. Otherwise, maybe next month! I should be able to make a little money next month." Zhu Xiu Yu said in embarrassment.

"Aren't you kidding me?" Zhuang's mother was extremely angry.

"How is this a joke? Chaoying knows it. He even helped me calculate the accounts yesterday! I really didn't make any money." Zhu Xiu Yu shook Zhuang Chaoying's arm.

Zhuang Chaoying nodded. "Mom, Dad still has medicine to take, so he can take it first. I think it's better to buy it monthly. There's no need to stockpile it. If you don't store it properly and it gets moldy, spoiled, or infested with insects, it's really not worth it."

Zhu Xiuyu added:

"Also, Tunan and Hongbin are going to college soon, so we need to prepare a lot of things! Suitcases, new clothes. Tunan should go to Beijing. It's cold there in the winter, so we need to bring winter clothes..."

"Yes, that's right, we have to start preparing now." Zhuang Chaoying continued.

If Zhu Xiuyu hadn't reminded him, he wouldn't have remembered these things.
