Chapter 584 Wu Shanshan Returns to the Alley
Wu Shanshan and Xie Zheyu took their honeymoon together. Wu Jun also had his winter break, and the three of them returned to Suzhou together.
After resting for a night at Xie's house, Wu Shanshan began her family visit.
She originally wanted to go back to the alley, but everyone still had to go to work, so she decided to come back in the afternoon and went to the garment factory first.
The gifts for the relatives in the factory were all hauled by trucks.
Grandpa Zhang thought someone was delivering goods until Wu Shanshan jumped out of the car, then he laughed.
"We are back."
When Wu Xia saw her coming, she stopped the machines online so that everyone could come and meet her.
"Director Wu, I'm sorry to have delayed you. We're all busy at the end of the year." Wu Shanshan said embarrassedly.
"No delay, I know what to do." Wu Xia smiled and shook his head.
Everyone pulled Wu Shanshan aside to ask questions: Is it hot in Guangdong? Is the food good? Is the accommodation good? Is the work hard? Is the boss harsh? Are colleagues easy to get along with?
Wu Shanshan answered each question seriously, and her aunts and sisters were relieved after hearing what she said.
Someone else asked: Are the parents-in-law easy to get along with? Is Zheyu good to her?
When Zheyu was called, he raised his hand and answered loudly: "Okay! It must be good! Don't you understand me? I'm a coward."
Everyone laughed.
Yes! It's like watching them grow up!
After distributing the gifts at the garment factory, they came to the alley in the evening.
At the entrance of the alley, Xie Zheyu and Wu Jun stood on Wu Shanshan's left and right.
These streets are still familiar, yet different.
Grandpa Li’s grocery store is no longer open. The old man’s health is getting worse, and Aunt Li has focused most of her energy on taking care of the old man and his grandson Xiaohu. Besides, the family is not short of the money.
Only the public telephone booth remains, to provide convenience to the neighbors in and around the alley.
The old man is currently dozing off behind the phone.
"Grandpa Li!" Wu Jun called softly.
"Hey." Grandpa Li woke up and looked at Wu Jun, "Whose child are you? Why don't I recognize your relative? Do you want me to call you?"
Hearing Grandpa Li's kind and gentle voice, Wu Jun burst into tears and quickly replied:
"Grandpa, I'm Wu Jun! Xiao Jun!"
Grandpa Li was obviously stunned for a moment, squinting his eyes and looking at it, tears streaming down his face:
"Xiaojun! It's really Xiaojun! Oh!"
Grandpa Li walked out of the house and Xiaojun hurried to greet him. Grandpa Li held Wu Jun's arm and looked at the child carefully.
"Grandpa Li!" Wu Shanshan and Xie Zheyu also shouted.
"Shanshan, this is Zheyu. I know your name, Zheyu."
"Yes, Grandpa Li." Xie Zheyu said with a smile.
Grandpa Li called out into the alley, "Xiao Song, Xiao Lin, Xiao Jun, and Shan Shan, come home!"
This cry, with a crying tone, moistened everyone's eyes.
Everyone in the alley came out of their homes to greet the three people, including Fan Shilei's family.
Jiang Manye looked at the three fashionable young people in front of her with curiosity. She could not say that she did not know them, because she had often heard Song Ying mention them. Now that she saw them in person, they were exactly as she had imagined.
She waited until they finished greeting everyone else before she went over.
Wu Shanshan knew who she was without Song Ying introducing her.
"Uncle Fan, Aunt Jiang." Wu Shanshan and Wu Jun greeted them first.
"Come in and sit down," Jiang Manye suggested in a low voice, somewhat embarrassedly.
"Yeah! Okay!" Wu Shanshan nodded.
"Hey, let's go!" Jiang Manye nodded happily.
The brother and sister followed Jiang Manye away, and Xie Zheyu and Dongzhe moved the gifts at the entrance of the alley into the yard.
Dongzhe was so angry that he said, "Brother, you guys are sending me train cars!"
"You guessed right," Xie Zheyu nodded, "There are more people at the garment factory, so there are more."
Dongzhe probably understood after hearing what he said.
Wu Shanshan and Wu Jun walked into the yard. The yard, which was originally dirty and dilapidated, now looked brand new.
"If you hadn't given up the house, our family wouldn't have it to live in. You should treat this place as your own home from now on. If you return to Suzhou, you can come and stay at our house anytime." Jiang Manye said sincerely.
"Yeah, that's right." Fan Shilei nodded in response.
"Thank you, uncle and aunt. You don't have to stay here, but we'll come visit often. Our house is just two streets away from here, so please don't dislike me when the time comes." Wu Shanshan said with a smile.
"How could that be! Our Xiaojun said yesterday that if you guys came, he'd get to meet three more top students. He was so happy he couldn't sleep all night!"
Fan Jun stood in the corner of the room, looking at the guests curiously.
At this time, Xie Zheyu and Dongzhe brought gifts for the Fan family into the yard. The family refused for a long time before accepting them.
The three of them sat down at the Song family's house. Wu Jun glanced at the people in the room and asked, "Where's my brother Dongzhe?"
"Of course, Xiaoting is almost here! She must be looking at us at the entrance of the alley!" Xie Zheyu muttered towards the outside of the house.
Sure enough, Huang Ling and her family arrived soon.
There were so many people that the dinner was served in the Song family's courtyard. They had hot pot, which was hot and lively, but not cold.
After dinner, Wu Shanshan chatted with them until almost ten o'clock before going home with Xie Zheyu. Wu Jun planned to stay with Dongzhe for two days and did not go back.
The young couple walked home hand in hand, very slowly.
Wu Shanshan looked at the familiar streets in the night.
"That yard is so well-maintained! Uncle Fan and Aunt Jiang are very nice people."
"Yes! If the place hadn't changed, I would have thought it was another place!" Xie Zheyu nodded in response.
"I used to take this road. After all, I have to thank her! If she hadn't forced me, I wouldn't have walked two blocks to study outside your dormitory, and I wouldn't have met you." Wu Shanshan looked up at Xie Zheyu and found that Xie Zheyu was also looking at her.
Xie Zheyu didn't respond, he just stopped and embraced her.
"Bah! Hugging in the street!" A woman walked by cursing.
Xie Zheyu was startled when he saw the person coming, so he wrapped Wu Shanshan tightly in his coat, held her in his arms, and took a few steps back into the shadows.
He watched the woman leave. Her hair was gray, and her waist seemed to be unable to straighten up due to long-term heavy work. She was wearing a thin dark blue work smock that was washed out, and she walked unsteadily.
Xie Zheyu didn't let go of Wu Shanshan until she turned the corner.
"What's wrong?" Wu Shanshan asked.
"Nothing, I don't want you to think about the past."
"I'm no longer afraid to think about the past. Those were just a few years of unbearable things. I still have decades of good life ahead of me. You don't have to worry about me." Wu Shanshan raised her head and smiled at him.
Xie Zheyu smiled and looked around. After confirming that there was no one around, he kissed her on the forehead, and then the two of them continued walking home.
The two heard from Song Ying that the note Zhang A'mei left for her was not used. Zhang Min neither came back nor made a phone call.
I don’t know whether she lived a good life or not, but no matter how well she lived, she never thought of her parents. Zhang A-mei was destined to spend the rest of her life alone.
When they got downstairs at home, they saw that the lights were still on. It meant that they were still waiting for them, so they immediately quickened their pace.
As soon as I entered the room, I saw Xie's father and mother sitting against the head of the bed, leaning against each other, wrapped in quilts, already asleep, with snowflakes falling on the TV.
Xie Zheyu hurriedly tiptoed over and turned off the TV.
Well, turning off the TV also woke up the two of them.
"You're back. I fell asleep while watching TV." Xie's mother hurriedly got up.
"Mom, you and Dad should go to bed soon. We're going to wash up and go to bed. I'm sorry, I was so engrossed in chatting with Aunt Song and Aunt Huang today that I forgot the time." Wu Shanshan said a little embarrassedly.
"It's okay, it's okay. It's nice to chat after not seeing each other for so long! Are you cold on the way back?" Mother Xie touched Wu Shanshan's hand.
Father Xie was about to get out of bed and put on his clothes: "I'll go get you some hot water to soak your feet."
"Dad, don't move. It will be troublesome if you catch a cold. We can do it ourselves." Zheyu ordered.
"Okay." The two of them got on the bed and lay down obediently.
Wu Shanshan picked up the cotton coat at the end of the bed and put it on top of their quilts.
"Shanshan, we added water at nine o'clock, be careful of the heat." Father Xie reminded in a low voice.
"I know, Dad. Are your feet warm? Do you want to change to a hot water bottle?" Wu Shanshan replied.
"No, it's hot!" Xie's father replied quickly.
Xie Zheyu listened to the conversation between his father-in-law and daughter-in-law with a smile, walked over to turn on the light in his room, turned off the light outside, then went to pour water and brought the water to the room to wash his feet.
The weather in Suzhou is much colder than in Guangdong, but Wu Shanshan feels extremely warm in her heart.
