Chapter 15
Five minutes before leaving get off work, Ji Mingfei received a text message from Chu Yue.
"The underground parking garage awaits you."
She simply replied "okay," turned off her computer, changed her clothes, and prepared to leave work.
Sun Xiaomei looked up from her mountain of work, stretched stiffly, grumbled a few complaints about work, and looked up at Ji Mingfei to ask, "Sister Ji, are you leaving so early today because you're going on a date?"
Ji Mingfei blushed and denied it, "What date?! I usually leave at this time too."
Seeing that she was embarrassed, Sun Xiaomei laughed happily and continued to tease her, saying, "Oh... but I can feel the mark on your body!"
Wang Chao raised his head. "I felt it too."
Ji Mingfei: "..."
Sun Xiaomei slumped into the chair, her arms hanging limply on the armrests, wailing, "I want to be in a relationship too! I'm so envious of those alphas who can go on dates with cute omegas right after work!"
Wang Chao quickly tidied the table, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and said, "No cute omegas, but a handsome alpha will treat you to street food. Want to come?"
“We have to go!” Sun Xiaomei perked up instantly at the mention of food, but she did not accept Wang Chao’s assessment of her as overly sentimental.
"I'll press the elevator button first."
After Wang Chao left, Ji Mingfei didn't want to leave anymore. She was worried about running into Chu Yue in the elevator, so she wanted to wait until they left before she went.
Sun Xiaomei thought Ji Mingfei was waiting for her, so she quickly changed her clothes and pushed Ji Mingfei's shoulder to walk out. "Sister Ji, did your boyfriend come here specifically to see you? You two are so happy!"
Before Ji Mingfei could find a reason to let her leave, Sun Xiaomei locked the office door, so she could only laugh awkwardly as an admission.
"Hurry up, the elevator is almost here!" Wang Chao waved to them from the corner of the corridor.
The elevator floor number changed from 5 to 4, making a "ding" sound.
The elevator doors slowly opened, and Sun Xiaomei and Ji Mingfei arrived just in time. Chu Yue and Deng Jie stood inside the elevator like two unapproachable Buddhas, staring at the three people outside.
"Not coming up?" Deng Jie asked the two little ones outside the elevator with a smile as he pressed the open button.
Wang Chao: "Thank you, General Manager Chu and Assistant Deng."
Sun Xiaomei: "No need, we'll wait for the next trip."
The awkward trio: "..."
"Come on up," Chu Yue said expressionlessly, her gaze passing over the two young men and landing on Ji Mingfei.
Since the general manager had personally given the order, the naive young man naturally didn't hesitate and quickly got into the elevator. Although the process was a little awkward, at least he didn't have to squeeze into the elevator with other people.
Ji Mingfei had no choice but to follow. As soon as she entered, Deng Jie immediately "occupied" the empty seat next to Wang Chao, forcing her to stand next to Chu Yue.
"..."
Ji Mingfei stared at the changing floor number and quickly sent a message to Chu Yue beside him on his phone.
"I'll wait for you at the door."
A slight vibration suddenly sounded in the quiet elevator. Chu Yue glanced at Ji Mingfei beside her before taking out her phone to check her messages. After reading them, she didn't reply and put her phone back in her pocket.
Ji Mingfei assumed she had tacitly agreed and relaxed a little. If she hadn't gone with Sun Xiaomei and the others, the curious young people would definitely have asked her what she was doing in the underground parking garage tomorrow.
As the elevator approached the first floor, Wang Chao bid farewell to Chu Yue and Deng Jie, saying, "President Chu, Assistant Deng, we're leaving now."
The elevator doors opened just as she finished speaking. Ji Mingfei was about to get off with them when her arm was suddenly grabbed, and she watched helplessly as the two young people disappeared quickly outside the door.
Ji Mingfei: "..."
The assistant coughed lightly, pressed the close button, and pretended not to have seen anything.
"We're out of groceries at home, I'll go to the supermarket first," Chu Yue said.
Ji Mingfei nervously hummed in agreement. Remembering that Deng Jie had been waiting outside the hospital last night to take her home, Ji Mingfei assumed he would accompany them to the supermarket the whole time. Unexpectedly, Chu Yue got into the driver's seat, and the assistant in the back got out halfway through the journey.
As he was leaving, the assistant excitedly said, "Go, boss!" and was almost blown away by Chu Yue's sudden acceleration.
…
Chu Yue can cook, but she rarely shops for herself. The supermarket she was going to was found for her by her assistant; it was supposedly the largest supermarket in the area.
Ji Mingfei was the complete opposite; she didn't like cooking but loved shopping at supermarkets. It was just that this supermarket was a bit far from where she lived, so this was her first time there.
Two newbies, unfamiliar with the area, pushed their shopping cart through the dazzling array of goods in the supermarket, and accidentally wandered into the maternity and baby products section.
"Hello, what do you need? I can help you!" The staff in the mother and baby section, which had been deserted all day, greeted the two walking "commission" customers with enthusiasm.
Just as Ji Mingfei was about to refuse, Chu Yue, who was pushing the shopping cart, suddenly asked her, "Isn't it too early to prepare all this now?"
The astute shop assistant immediately noticed Ji Mingfei's belly and asked with a smile, "Are you four months pregnant?"
Out of politeness, Ji Mingfei smiled and replied, "It's only been 15 weeks."
The salesperson quickly adjusted their pitch, "It's better to prepare things that pregnant women use in advance. After 30 weeks, when the belly gets bigger, many pregnant women don't want to go out. We have many customers like this. In the beginning, they thought there was plenty of time, but in the blink of an eye, it was almost time to give birth, and when they needed something, they found that they didn't have this or that."
Chu Yue thought the shop assistant made sense, "Then let's prepare to serve it."
Ji Mingfei quickly covered her mouth with her hand and whispered, "I can buy these myself. Let's go buy the groceries first."
“You don’t have a car, how are you going to carry all this stuff? If you’re hungry, we can go eat first.”
Ji Mingfei was indeed hungry, but she wasn't in a hurry to eat. All she wanted now was for Chu Yue to leave this place that looked very expensive.
Having seen all sorts of customers, the shop assistant immediately recognized who the big spender was from their conversation. She proactively suggested to Chu Yue, "There's a tea restaurant upstairs that serves light and nutritious food, perfect for pregnant women. Why don't you two go eat there first? We still have some time before we close."
"What do you think?" Chu Yue looked at Ji Mingfei, waiting for her to make a decision.
Seeing Chu Yue and the shop assistant working together, Ji Mingfei figured they would come back after dinner, so he might as well buy something and get away quickly.
She said, "I'm not hungry yet."
The saleswoman's smile blossomed at those words, and she launched into a rapid-fire sales pitch, leading Ji Mingfei step by step to the shelf. "This is a maternity bag that pregnant women need to prepare. It has everything you need, and buying this one is enough. Look at the checklist for the maternity bag: toothbrush, towel, sanitary napkins, abdominal binder, breast pump, and a bra for easy breastfeeding. It's very complete."
Ji Mingfei listened to her explanation with a flushed face, thinking to herself, "Is she taking such a big bag of stuff to the hospital? Is this childbirth or wilderness survival?"
Chu Yue followed behind, listening intently. She hadn't expected that having a baby would require so much preparation. She thought buying some bottles, formula, and baby clothes would be enough. She had learned something new today.
After introducing the maternity bag, the salesperson quickly glanced at Chu Yue's reaction and continued, "These are the things pregnant women need to prepare; the baby's things are over here. Newborns need swaddle blankets; we have various thicknesses. When is your due date?"
"Next July," Ji Mingfei said, the date he knew perfectly well.
"It's already hot in July, so this breathable and lightweight style is fine. After we get home, we can change the baby into a newborn monk outfit. They also give us little socks and a little hat, so the baby can wear them when it gets a little cooler."
Ji Mingfei carefully took the tiny piece of clothing from the shop assistant, her heart melting at its cuteness.
"You can buy a few more and wear them in rotation." Chu Yue maintained a calm demeanor on the surface, but inside she was completely charmed.
Ji Mingfei nodded silently, her eyes never leaving the small clothes in her hands. She glanced at the price on the box, and the smile vanished instantly.
"..."
Ji Mingfei put the little clothes back in the box. "Let me take another look."
The sales clerk realized that the customer thought it was too expensive, so she introduced the styles on the lower shelf to Ji Mingfei, "We also have these baby clothes, which are also made of pure cotton and are very comfortable."
"Do you have any other colors for that one?" Chu Yue asked the shop assistant.
"There are also off-white, sky blue, and pale yellow."
After hearing about these colors, Chu Yue thought they were all quite suitable for girls and said, "I want every color, please pack them up for us."
Ji Mingfei thought she had misheard and quickly stopped the extravagant Chu Yue, saying, "We don't need that much..."
"Kids go through a lot of clothes, so buy a few more for changing." Clearly, Chu Yue had her own logic.
Ji Mingfei secretly checked his account balance on his phone, gritted his teeth, and followed after him to pay.
"That'll be 6215 in total. Will you be paying in cash or by scanning a QR code?"
Before Ji Mingfei even reached the cashier, his hand holding his phone tightened instinctively, and the phone shut down while playing a little tune.
Chu Yue thought her phone was out of battery, so she took out her own phone and said to the clerk, "Scan the code."
"No need... I'll pay!" Ji Mingfei hurriedly pressed and held down the power button on her phone, while simultaneously reaching for Chu Yue's hand to pay. Unfortunately, before she could touch her, the payment success notification sounded.
Ji Mingfei held the newly turned-on phone: "..."
The shop assistant helped put the items into the shopping cart. Suddenly realizing something, Chu Yue smiled and said to Ji Mingfei, "Let's go, we can charge our devices in the car."
Ji Mingfei couldn't bring himself to say that he accidentally pressed the wrong button and turned off his phone because he was too worried about the money, so he could only take the opportunity offered by Chu Yue.
I'll transfer it to you in a bit.
Chu Yue concealed her smile, "No rush."
…
On the way back, Ji Mingfei hurriedly transferred the money to Chu Yue, but she said she was driving and didn't have time to receive it.
After the car entered the underground parking garage of the residential complex, Chu Yue parked the car and turned off the engine. Ji Mingfei then reminded her to collect the payment.
Chu Yue calmly unbuckled her seatbelt, leaned back in her seat, and looked at her, saying, "This is for the child."
This was supposed to be a generic, cliché question, but Ji Mingfei was overly sensitive about the child's origins, so he blurted out, "Why?"
Chu Yue pondered for a moment, then pointed to the mark on Ji Mingfei's neck and said, "Because during the duration of this mark, I will always be your alpha."
Ji Mingfei: "..."
What kind of twisted logic is that!
