Chapter 7

Chapter 7

Although Shanhe's working hours are from 9 to 6, Ji Mingfei only has large blocks of time to furnish and tidy up her living space on her days off each week. She worked on it bit by bit for almost two months, like an ant carrying grains of rice, before she could finally get the place ready to move in.

On her first night moving from the dormitory into her new home, Ji Mingfei was so excited that she couldn't sleep. She bought a brand new calendar and placed it in the living room. Every morning, the first thing she did was run over to tear off a page from the calendar, just to visually feel the countdown to her due date from the thinning calendar pages.

In her third month of pregnancy, Ji Mingfei noticed that her belly was starting to bulge slightly. It wasn't noticeable when she wore casual clothes, but when she wore tight jeans, it looked like she had eaten too much at a buffet, with the metal zipper peeking out from the seam at any moment.

"Sis, have you gained weight lately?" Sun Xiaomei looked Ji Mingfei up and down as she entered the office. "But your skin has improved a lot, it's as smooth as a peeled egg. Did you switch to new skincare products?"

"..."

Do young alphas these days like to compliment people like this? She practically washes her face with just water every day and moisturizes with cucumber water; she wouldn't dare use any skincare products.

Ji Mingfei casually made up an excuse, saying, "I've been so busy lately that I might be a little bloated."

Sun Xiaomei tore open the coffee bag and poured it into a mug. She got up and went to the water dispenser to get some water. "President Zhou has been at headquarters for almost a week. Why hasn't he come back yet? It feels like the company is about to come to a standstill lately."

Wang Chao, who had been looking down at his phone, looked up and adjusted his glasses when he heard Sun Xiaomei's words. He said, "Didn't you see the announcement that headquarters just released? General Manager Zhou has been transferred to another location. The next general manager of Shanhe is General Manager Chu, who came last time. He'll probably be here in the next few days."

Snap.

Ji Mingfei dropped the pen from his hand onto the table.

"...Who did you just say?" Ji Mingfei didn't even have time to turn around before asking Wang Chao behind him, facing the computer screen that hadn't even been turned on yet.

"Chu Yue, the group's project director, didn't she come to inspect the place last time? You even went to dinner with her," Wang Chao helped recall.

Chu Yue? How could it be her! Can't such a huge group find anyone else to be the general manager? Although Zhou Yaomin is incompetent, likes to show off, loves to flatter the leaders, and is extravagant and wasteful, spending money recklessly and having the company reimburse him, he is still a good leader... right?

Is it too late to apply for a job transfer? Will the HR department approve it? Ji Mingfei suddenly doesn't like the comfort of small cities anymore…

Headquarters.

Project Director's Office.

"Boss, the HR department officially issued your transfer notice to Shantou this morning, and the shareholder change procedures are also completed. When do you plan to leave? I'll book your plane ticket!"

Chu Yue noticed that her assistant seemed to be particularly proactive in urging her to go to Shantou, asking about her schedule almost every day.

"What mischief are you plotting now?" Chu Yue closed her laptop, leaned back in her chair, and exuded an air of authority without being angry.

The assistant held up three fingers and said ingratiatingly, "Mrs. Ji is three months pregnant. Don't forget your little home in Shanhe."

Chu Yue knew he wouldn't say anything nice, so she corrected him, "It's the biological mother."

The assistant gently shook her head and, using her limited knowledge, explained to Chu Yue, "Since you didn't donate to the gene bank, a child born from a one-night stand is called an illegitimate child..."

Chu Yue shot a sharp look at him, startling the assistant into immediately shutting his mouth.

"She wanted to have the child, what does it have to do with me?" Chu Yue wasn't so forgetful that she forgot Ji Mingfei's sincere thanks to her on social media for being a fertility goddess just two months later.

Looking back on the whole thing now, it was all a trap set by Ji Mingfei to get pregnant. She felt no affection for the child in Ji Mingfei's womb, and had no desire to sympathize with the difficulties a single mother faces raising a child.

The assistant was extremely worried about the family and was single-mindedly trying to find a good match for his boss. He earnestly advised, "No matter how hard life is, you can't let the children suffer! Even if you're a womanizer, you can't let your first child be born in the company dormitory!"

"She chose this path herself, so she has to walk it herself." Ji Mingfei glared at her assistant. "From now on, you're not allowed to mention Ji Mingfei in front of me, understand?"

"Then you still have to go to Shanhe? You'll be running into them all the time, how awkward!" The assistant firmly believed her boss was just being stubborn; having been single for so long, she had lost the ability to communicate with omegas. If things continued like this, there would be no market for blind dates.

“I’ll say it again, I went to Shantou for work, not for her.”

The assistant nodded perfunctorily.

Even if you meet in person, you'll still feel a bit more affectionate. Just keep pretending!

A week later, Chu Yue officially appointed Shanhe Company as director and general manager, giving him full authority over all matters related to Shanhe.

On her first day at the company, Chu Yue didn't inform anyone in advance. The employees of Shanhe went to work as usual in the morning, and as soon as they entered the door, they saw the new general manager suddenly appear in the lobby, almost dropping the breakfast they had just bought.

To prevent subordinates from falsifying information and deceiving superiors, the most common tactic is to go directly to the site to investigate the situation without informing subordinates, and then have all staff report back to her on the spot.

As a leader, it is essential to clearly understand the abilities of each employee, who is slacking off and who is actually doing the work. This is the most important foundation for formulating the company's future plans.

Chu Yue blocked all the office workers in the lobby and waited until the clock on the wall struck nine before she began to speak.

"According to the group's personnel reshuffle, General Manager Zhou Yaomin has been transferred to another project, and I will be in charge of all affairs of Shanhe from now on. My surname is Chu, and I believe everyone knows this character! Of course, if someone likes to call me General Manager Zhe, I don't mind."

A few scattered, suppressed laughs escaped from the crowd.

The tense atmosphere eased slightly, and Chu Yue officially got to the point about today's work. She glanced at her watch. "Department managers, please assemble in my office. All other employees, please report to me one hour later, in the order you clocked in today."

Caught off guard: "..."

After the disbandment was announced, apart from the department manager who automatically followed, all the other employees stood still and did not dare to move.

Once the elevator doors for the leaders had completely closed, everyone rushed towards the elevator doors and frantically pressed the buttons. Those on lower floors or who knew they wouldn't be able to get on the elevator immediately moved to the adjacent emergency exit.

"I was so scared! Is this new general manager the same General Manager Chu who came last time? He's completely different! How am I supposed to give a work report? I don't know anything about it!"

"It should be similar to a work log... I have an hour to prepare, I need to hurry back and write one and memorize it. Who's ahead of me when I clock in this morning?"

"I finally arrived early this time, and then this happens. I should have just arrived at the company right on time! I feel so upset I could cry..."

Amidst the murmurs of lamentation at the elevator entrance, Ji Mingfei stood calmly in the middle of the crowd, her palms clenched so tightly that her nails were etched into them. She took out a tissue to wipe the sweat from her hands and silently exhaled.

Ji Mingfei wasn't worried about work reports, as they were practically a daily routine at headquarters. However, the thought of facing Chu Yue alone still made her a little afraid.

Last time in the car, she was so aggressive, it was like she wanted to devour her. Now the entire company is under her clutches, and causing her trouble is a piece of cake.

Another day I'm thinking about quitting my job.

The work group chat buzzed twice, and everyone pulled out their phones to check.

Assistant Deng Jie: [Timetable.xls]

Assistant Deng Jie: [Please proceed to the General Manager's office in the order listed on the form to give your report. Each person will have 5 to 10 minutes. The meeting will begin at 10:00 AM sharp.]

The person ranked first was a new intern from the marketing department, who almost fainted on the spot after seeing the table.

The intern frantically pressed his philtrum and asked tremblingly, "...Can I resign early?"

Others cast sympathetic glances at him, but only his brother behind him in line embraced him and wept bitterly.

Ji Mingfei waited for the elevator twice before going in. Since becoming pregnant, she had become very lazy and had no desire to climb stairs. She had already mentally prepared most of her work report; as long as Chu Yue didn't deliberately make things difficult for her, there shouldn't be any problems.

Before Ji Mingfei even entered the office, he could hear the rapid clatter of keyboards inside. Two young people were engrossed in writing, not even bothering to eat breakfast.

"Sister, why are you only coming up now? Have you finished thinking about your work report?" Sun Xiaomei asked in a hurry, her eyes never leaving the computer screen.

Ji Mingfei picked up a cup from the table to get some water, and took the opportunity to share her experience with them, "I'm fine. Basically, you just have to go over what you do each day, focusing on what you've accomplished so your supervisor doesn't think you're doing nothing."

Sun Xiaomei was on the verge of tears, "But I really have nothing to do, I just drink coffee all day..."

Ji Mingfei comforted her, saying, "You don't need to be too nervous. It's President Chu's first day here, so she probably won't make things difficult for everyone. I guess she just wants to test the waters."

Usually, a change of leadership at the last minute is due to the previous leader's poor performance. A leader brought in from outside the company will definitely take action to reorganize it; in her view, these are basic procedures.

As soon as the clock struck ten, the entire company instantly went into high alert. Only the department managers, who had just stepped out of the general manager's office, were left dejected and hanging their heads after this silent spiritual baptism.

Sun Xiaomei read the manuscript she had just written over and over again, then suddenly rushed towards the wall behind her and slammed into it, startling Ji Mingfei who was standing next to her.

"Much better! I'm going upstairs now." Sun Xiaomei, having finally relaxed, gave a thumbs up and awkwardly went out the door.

Wang Chao moved his chair aside, jumped a few times on the spot, and made a cool shooting motion. "I'm ready too!"

Then they headed to the "battlefield".

Ji Mingfei was the only one left in the General Affairs Department. She picked up her water glass, took a sip of warm water, took out a vitamin tablet from her pocket, put it in her mouth, and started chewing it.

To her, Chu Yue was another kind of monster.
