Chapter 32

Chapter 32

Ji Mingfei followed Deng Jie to the sampling room of the identification center. Shortly after he went in, June's wailing cries suddenly came from inside.

Hiding outside the door, Ji Mingfei felt a lump in her throat, and tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

She wiped away her tears and returned to the ward.

Pushing open the door, Ji Mingfei was startled to see Chu Yue sitting on the bed waiting for her.

"Why are you so distracted while walking? Where did you go by yourself? You didn't answer my calls." Chu Yue looked at the mark on Ji Mingfei's neck, feeling incredibly guilty but trying to appear calm as she spoke.

"I went to the park downstairs and didn't hear my phone ring." Ji Mingfei kept backing away as he spoke, almost blending into the wall behind him.

How afraid are you of her?

When Chu Yue woke up and learned that she had permanently marked Ji Mingfei, she was filled with remorse! Her gradual courtship plan had now come to fruition in one fell swoop, except for her feelings. It felt like she had everything overnight, yet also like she had lost everything.

After a long pause, Chu Yue finally said hesitantly, "The doctor said we can be discharged now. Pack your things, and I'll have Deng Jie handle the discharge procedures."

Ji Mingfei looked up and tentatively asked, "Where did Assistant Deng go?"

“I haven’t seen him for quite a while. I thought he was with you. I’ll give him a call.”

Ji Mingfei stared intently at Chu Yue's every move; she was acting as if she knew absolutely nothing!

"Where did you run off to? It's almost dark, and you've been running around with June. Come back right now!" Chu Yue hung up the phone, then stepped onto the shelf under the bed, shaking her legs which seemed to have nowhere to go.

The fortune teller's words echoed in Ji Mingfei's mind again, "Your eyesight is terrible! ...Even a god couldn't save you!"

On the way home from the hospital, the atmosphere in the car was very strange. Deng Jie kept glancing at his eldest son, who was sitting in the back seat, through the rearview mirror. Chu Yue was holding Liu Yue and her eyes were only on the child. Ji Mingfei sat upright, looking out the window.

The car drove into the underground parking garage, Deng Jie turned off the engine and got out. He called out to Chu Yue, who was about to go home, and said, "Boss, I still have work to report to you!"

Chu Yue, holding the child, turned around and said, "Go ahead and speak."

Deng Jie stammered and looked at Ji Mingfei next to him. Before Chu Yue could react, Ji Mingfei tactfully walked over, picked up June, and said, "I'll go up first, you two chat."

As soon as Ji Mingfei left, Chu Yue leaned against the car door and asked impatiently, "Why can't you just say it directly? People who don't know might think I have another omega outside. If you keep guarding against Ji Mingfei like this, she'll misunderstand!"

Deng Jie pulled out a report rolled up into a paper tube from his pocket and said furtively, "But I can't take this out in front of Madam Ji, can I?"

Chu Yue unfolded it and read, "Paternity Test Report".

"You finished it so quickly? Where did you go this afternoon? Don't take my June to the mimeograph room again, the ink is bad for a child's breathing."

"This wasn't printed by me, it's genuine. You can see the stamp from the authentication center on the back!" Deng Jie rubbed his hands together, trying to curry favor with Chu Yue.

"Really? You wouldn't be...you brat!" Chu Yue kicked him. "You had the doctor prick my June with a needle? Her hands are so small, she'd cry buckets if they got pricked!"

While dodging, Deng Jie explained, "I didn't get a needle, I just had a throat swab, so it's an extra two thousand yuan. How could I dare leave a needle mark on your precious baby? If you saw it, you'd probably kick me out!"

"Throat swab…?"

"It's just swabs in your mouth."

"This works?"

"That's why it's so expensive! The doctor said that blood tests are at the normal price, but throat swabs, hair samples, and nail samples are more difficult to test, so they cost extra."

"How much?" Chu Yue asked casually.

"Twelve thousand."

"..."

Chu Yue slammed the report at him, speechless with anger, "Twelve thousand... I want this? Do I... do I need it?"

"But I've never seen what a paternity test report looks like! I can only get a real one and make a fake one by comparing it," Deng Jie said, feeling wronged.

"Why would I need a fake one if I have the real one? By the way, where did you get my DNA from?" Chu Yue happened to turn to the page with the test results, where a line marked with a slash read, "The genes do not conform to the laws of heredity, so biological relationship can be ruled out."

Chu Yue's hand trembled violently, and she pointed at the words on the report, asking Deng Jie, "What...what does this mean?!"

"Oh, this is the paternity test report between me and June. We're definitely not biologically related."

Chu Yue's heart skipped a beat. With a forced smile, she put her arm around Deng Jie's shoulder, pulled him over, and pressed him against the car wall. She gritted her teeth and said, "Can't you finish your sentence in one go? And get to the point!"

"The point is that I first took June to do a real paternity test, but the result will definitely be that she is not my biological child. After I get the sample, I will go back tonight and make you a fake test report to guarantee that the result is that she is my biological child. It's just that this thing is too expensive, so I would like you to reimburse me!" Deng Jie said in one breath.

Chu Yue raised her head, took a deep breath, suppressed the burning sensation, transferred the money to Deng Jie, then forced a smile and said, "There's no need to make a fake report. Go back and get some rest. Get out of here."

"I wish you all the best tonight!" Deng Jie quickly opened the car door, stepped on the gas, and sped away.

Ji Mingfei sat on the sofa holding June, carefully checking the child's body for needle marks. But after looking over and over for a long time, he found nothing.

Could it be baby hair? But why would baby hair cry so loudly?

Ji Mingfei kissed June's soft little face and held her tenderly in his arms.

Why did Chu Yue suddenly think of getting a paternity test? Did Attorney Qin say something to her? If she knew the child was hers, wouldn't she be even less likely to let go? With the permanent mark and the biological daughter, she could never leave Chu Yue in this lifetime.

The door suddenly opened, and Ji Mingfei looked towards the doorway warily. He saw Chu Yue walk in with a dark expression, tossing what she was carrying onto the coffee table.

Ji Mingfei turned his head to look, and sure enough, it was a "Paternity Test Report".

"Is there anything you'd like to say?"

Ji Mingfei held June in her arms without saying a word. What else could she say? A one-night stand was a mutually beneficial arrangement. She could raise the child herself; she had never used the child to blackmail Chu Yue into giving her money.

Seeing that Ji Mingfei didn't speak, Chu Yue went into the bedroom to change her clothes first. When she came out, she passed by the living room and asked, "What are we having for dinner? We can talk after dinner."

"I'm not hungry, you eat." Ji Mingfei hurriedly carried the child back to the bedroom.

Chu Yue watched Ji Mingfei flee in a panic. Was the acting a bit over the top?

While cooking, Chu Yue took a moment to call Qin Zhou.

"Is your idea going to work? I think she's almost crying from fright."

Qin Zhou confidently assured him, "I've handled more AO marital breakdowns than you've ever met an omega, trust me!"

"But we don't have any emotional foundation!"

"The first thing I said when I woke up was to check on your safety, and you're telling me that means there's no emotional foundation? Besides, your child is already a month old! I'm the one who says there's no emotional foundation..."

"What did you say?" Chu Yue didn't hear the last whispered remark.

"I told you, she likes you. Don't doubt your charm as an alpha! Keep it up!"

Chu Yue wavered a bit and said, "I just don't feel like this is a good idea... Anyway, she doesn't have money to rent a place and can't move out anytime soon. I can keep pursuing her and I'll have a chance!"

"Please get this straight, where do you have time to chase them slowly? There are powerful enemies all around, and you've already been through this once. You won't be so lucky next time! If you keep them in a safe area first, you can still chase them slowly!"

"Couldn't you have offered a gentler solution? This is far too dirty."

"Compared to what you've done, this is already a very clean method."

"..."

Chu Yue slammed down the phone, turned off the stove, and ladled out soup. After the food was on the table, she knocked on the bedroom door.

"Eat something! Deng Jie said you haven't eaten much in the hospital."

Ji Mingfei knew that this was something she couldn't avoid. She put the sleeping June on the bed, tidied her clothes, came out of the bedroom, and sat down across the dining table from Chu Yue.

Chu Yue first ladled out a bowl of soup for her and handed it to her.

Ji Mingfei caught it. "Thank you."

Their polite yet distant attitude made it seem as if we were back to six months ago.

Ji Mingfei ran his fingers over the rim of the bowl, then lowered his head and said, "Just say what you have to say."

"Eat first." Chu Yue placed an egg next to Ji Mingfei.

Ji Mingfei couldn't eat anything, just kept drinking soup from his bowl. When the soup was empty, Chu Yue also put down her chopsticks. The two sat facing each other at the table, silent.

The phone on the table vibrated.

Chu Yue opened WeChat. Qin Zhou sent her a row of "dog head" emojis, all looking on with amusement. She rolled her eyes at her phone and replied with a middle finger.

“I already know about the child. Although you didn’t intend to tell me, I can’t turn a blind eye. Your current situation makes it impossible for you to provide June with the best education and life, so I suggest that we raise the child together.”

Ji Mingfei stared at Chu Yue, unable to fathom what she was plotting. "What does 'joint parenting' mean?"

“It means we’ll raise the child together.” Chu Yue paused, then added, “To make it easier to take care of June, it would be best to do it as a family.”

Ji Mingfei asked directly, "Marriage?"

Chu Yue nodded, "That's right!"

What if I don't agree?

Chu Yue sat up straight and said in a serious tone, "You have no advantage in the custody battle."

I've been threatened!

"What's wrong with being rich! Haven't you already tried seven times?"

"You can get married first, and after she acknowledges the child, you can divide the property and child support as her adopted daughter."

Ji Mingfei came to her senses and slowly breathed a sigh of relief.

"Sure! Let's go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow. But, June already has my surname, so changing it will be a lot of trouble, so..."

"I'll take your surname in June." Chu Yue almost couldn't control her excitement and immediately dispelled her concerns.

Ji Mingfei got up and, as usual, began clearing away the dishes, saying, "Go take a shower first."

Because things were going so smoothly, Chu Yue was still in a state of flux, neither fully conscious nor unconscious. It wasn't until she heard the sound of running water in the kitchen that she snapped out of it.

What did she just say?!

Going to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow?
