Chapter 23 [VIP]
Chapter summary: "I drank half a bottle of Moutai before realizing I'd gone to the wrong dinner party."
Xu Tianzhou intended to teach Ni Zhenzhen a lesson, but ended up being taught a lesson himself.
Ni Zhenzhen vomited as soon as she stepped out the door. Xu Tianzhou didn't pay much attention at the time. He patted Ni Zhenzhen's back while comforting himself that it was better to vomit now than to vomit in the car later.
Who knew that Ni Zhenzhen would vomit after getting into the car.
He quickly stopped the car. Ni Zhenzhen didn't have time to speak. She covered her mouth and stumbled out of the car, only to gag twice without vomiting anything.
This went on and on several times, making Ni Zhenzhen a little embarrassed.
She turned around, and in the hazy night, Ni Zhenzhen's face was flushed with a faint pink. She had vomited so badly that her eyes were brimming with tears, as if they were about to well up and fall down at any moment.
She clutched Xu Tianzhou's clothes like a child who had done something wrong, "Are you angry? It's all my fault, I'm sorry..."
Xu Tianzhou was quite angry.
Ni Zhenzhen looked extremely disheveled, her hair was a mess, her clothes were stained, and she was so drunk that she couldn't stand up and was supported by Xu Tianzhou's arm.
Xu Tianzhou couldn't bring himself to say anything harsh, but he silently berated her in his mind.
She wasn't even that close to her classmate, yet she insisted on coming to the dinner party. Didn't she realize that someone as stingy as Zhang Wang would never invite her to dinner?
However, he didn't stop her. He knew Ni Zhenzhen too well, and he knew she would think too badly of him.
The problem is that even if Ni Zhenzhen went there, she might not find out anything, and might even be grateful for Zhang Wang's deep affection. Who would have thought that others only saw her as a free hostess?
Thinking of this, Xu Tianzhou suddenly felt a little sad. What would she do without him?
In the end, feeling sorry for her won out.
Perhaps it was because Ni Zhenzhen looked so different when she was drunk; her shimmering eyes held something like crystal, innocent yet aggrieved, captivating all who saw her.
Xu Tianzhou sighed and told Ni Zhenzhen to wait in the car. "I'll be back soon."
Xu Tianzhou went to the convenience store and bought a cup of hot milk.
He saw Ni Zhenzhen as soon as he stepped out of the store. It was such a cold day, and Ni Zhenzhen was sitting on the ground, looking up at him with a silly smile.
Xu Tianzhou immediately flew into a rage. He strode over and shouted, "What are you doing sitting here? Get up!"
Xu Tianzhou reached out to pull him, but Ni Zhenzhen dodged it.
She put her hand to her lips, making a shushing gesture, and looked past him into the distance. "Shh..."
Beside her was a tree with lights hanging from it. The warm yellow light shone on Ni Zhenzhen's face, bringing an incredible, dreamlike softness.
Ni Zhenzhen waved to him, signaling him to come over.
Xu Tianzhou bent down, and a breath of hot air hit his earlobe, making him feel itchy.
"I did it on purpose, so my husband would hug me." Ni Zhenzhen's voice lowered, tinged with a shy laugh. "Don't tell him."
Xu Tianzhou was both amused and exasperated.
This seemed to be the first time that evidence had been found to prove that Ni Zhenzhen was "scheming," but Xu Tianzhou didn't dislike her at all; in fact, he was quite pleased.
He was about to pick Ni Zhenzhen up when he was afraid she wouldn't recognize him.
Xu Tianzhou added a scene for himself, first pretending to be someone else greeting him, then jumping into his own role to respond, then turning to Ni Zhenzhen, pretending to have just seen her, and finally naturally picking her up.
When he held Ni Zhenzhen in his arms, she recognized him as expected. She nestled obediently against him and sweetly called out, "Husband..."
Xu Tianzhou was pleased with his own cleverness.
However, just a second later, Ni Zhenzhen tilted her head, blinked, and asked in confusion, "Why are you talking to yourself? Are you drunk too?"
"..."
At that moment, Xu Tianzhou felt like a fool.
He put Ni Zhenzhen in the car and ordered her impatiently, "Sit still."
Ni Zhenzhen was still smiling. She grabbed his tie and wouldn't let him leave. Xu Tianzhou had to use a lot of effort to remove her hand.
He took the milk and carefully fed it to her.
Ni Zhenzhen felt much better and leaned back in her chair with her eyes closed. Xu Tianzhou finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After doing all this, Xu Tianzhou was actually sweating profusely. He unbuttoned his shirt, loosened his tie, and restarted the car.
The drive back was relatively smooth. When they arrived at their rented apartment complex, Xu Tianzhou parked the car. Remembering how Ni Zhenzhen had been nagging him to carry her, Xu Tianzhou hurried to the other side of the car and opened the door.
But Ni Zhenzhen pushed him away and insisted on leaving on her own.
"I don't want you to be too tired," Ni Zhenzhen said in a muffled voice.
Xu Tianzhou's heart skipped a beat, and without saying a word, he picked her up.
Ni Zhenzhen struggled a couple of times, "Hey, put me down..."
Xu Tianzhou stopped her with just two words, "Don't move!"
In the quiet night, a cold wind blew, carrying withered leaves. As Ni Zhenzhen snuggled into Xu Tianzhou's arms, she slipped one hand inside his shirt.
In an instant, a warm feeling filled the air.
Xu Tianzhou's ears turned red unexpectedly. He lowered his head and said threateningly, "You can be even more of a rogue."
Ni Zhenzhen chuckled and became even bolder with her hands.
Perhaps he was truly exhausted, or perhaps for some other reason, Xu Tianzhou's breathing became heavy and disordered. He couldn't help but complain inwardly about how long this distance could be.
Just as she was about to get home, Ni Zhenzhen suddenly remembered something. She cried out in a panic, "Oh no! I forgot to bring something!"
Xu Tianzhou was startled and quickly asked her what she had forgotten. When he heard the words "roast goose," he said nonchalantly, "Never mind, forget it."
"No, I've already paid." Ni Zhenzhen jumped down, grabbed his arm, and pleaded, "It's so delicious, I have to let you try it."
After Ni Zhenzhen finished speaking, she turned around and walked back. In fact, she had no idea where the restaurant was; she just decided to keep walking in one direction.
Xu Tianzhou caught up with her and said in a gentle tone, "I've finished eating, have you forgotten?"
Ni Zhenzhen looked blankly at her. "Finished eating?"
"Um."
"I don't remember that."
"You fed me, do you remember?" Xu Tianzhou took his ability to lie through his teeth to the extreme.
Ni Zhenzhen actually believed it. She laughed foolishly and asked, "Is it delicious?"
"tasty."
"I knew it." Ni Zhenzhen said, and then turned to walk back.
Xu Tianzhou grew anxious, "Where are you going again?"
"I'll go buy another one."
Xu Tianzhou sighed inwardly, wishing he had said it wouldn't taste good.
He caught up with Ni Zhenzhen again and coaxed her patiently. He first said that freshly made food tastes the best, and that it wouldn't taste the same if he brought it back. Then he said that the shop was closed at this time and the staff needed to rest.
Ni Zhenzhen stopped in her tracks, seemingly agreeing with Xu Tianzhou's point, and nodded thoughtfully, "Hmm..."
Xu Tianzhou carried her upstairs. Ni Zhenzhen's breath brushed against his neck, making him feel dizzy, as if he were about to get drunk.
Ni Zhenzhen, the culprit, was completely unaware of what was happening. She pointed to a wisp of air in front of her and said, "I'll let you go for now!"
Who are you talking to?
“A little duckling.” Ni Zhenzhen looked up, but then tapped her forehead and said, “Oh, no, it should be a little goose.”
"..."
After getting home, there was another round of fussing, but Ni Zhenzhen finally fell asleep with whimpering.
In the middle of the night, Ni Zhenzhen suddenly sat up and made a soft "woo-woo" sound.
Xu Tianzhou opened his eyes and asked, "What's wrong?"
Ni Zhenzhen had no way to answer. She covered her mouth with her hand, as if she was about to vomit again.
Seeing her get out of bed, Xu Tianzhou immediately followed, but everything happened too fast. Xu Tianzhou could only call out, "That's the kitchen!"
However, it was too late. As the door opened, Xu Tianzhou closed his eyes in despair.
This time, Ni Zhenzhen has finally come to her senses.
She came out of the restroom with tear stains on her face. Her face had been flushed red just moments before, and now it was excessively pale.
Ni Zhenzhen looked at Xu Tianzhou and said pitifully, "I feel terrible."
Xu Tianzhou couldn't help but feel heartache, but his voice remained cold, "Who told you to drink so much?"
"No, it's just that I feel terrible." Ni Zhenzhen hugged Xu Tianzhou and cried. "What should I do? I've embarrassed myself."
Ni Zhenzhen still doesn't understand how all of this happened.
It probably started with that lady in the suit mistaking someone else for someone else.
Ni Zhenzhen mistook the person for a restaurant employee based on their clothing, so she didn't think much of it when she said "Let's move to this side." The hostess assumed they knew each other and didn't stop them.
Everything was so natural.
Most importantly, it was also a coincidence that Mr. Zhang, who was also hosting a dinner in the next private room, was not there, as everyone was waiting for their friend from the bank.
Ni Zhenzhen thought about it carefully and realized that the whole conversation was not without flaws; there were still some details that didn't match up.
But just as she was called "Manager Ni" by those people, the tacit understanding among adults is to firmly choose to turn a blind eye to those harmless mistakes.

What happened next could easily be submitted to the "Social Dead Group". Because when Zhang Wang entered, Ni Zhenzhen hadn't realized she'd gone to the wrong place; she was just wondering why this person in front of her didn't resemble the hockey team captain she remembered at all.
At the time, she was comforting herself, thinking that maybe it was because "Zhang Wang" had become a big fat man, so he was different from before.
When Zhang Wang looked over, Ni Zhenzhen greeted her warmly, "Wow, you've changed so much!"
The other person chuckled and said, "Yes, that's what everyone says."
After Zhang Wang took his seat, everyone had a few drinks, until Zhang Wang pointed at Ni Zhenzhen and asked the others, "Your friend?"
"Isn't he your friend?"
"Weren't you looking around?"
The sudden silence made Ni Zhenzhen feel extremely uneasy. Everyone looked at each other for a while, and then they all looked over at her.
Ni Zhenzhen finally understood what it meant to "want to find a crack in the ground to crawl into".
When Xu Tianzhou decided to teach Ni Zhenzhen a "lesson," he had anticipated this scene. However, reality was a hundred times more exciting than he had imagined. Especially when Ni Zhenzhen vividly described it, he couldn't help but chuckle softly.
"You're still laughing, I feel terrible." Ni Zhenzhen covered her face with the blanket and rolled around on the bed in pain. "I drank half a bottle of Moutai before I realized I went to the wrong dinner party."
Xu Tianzhou looked at her coldly, "Didn't I ask you to pay compensation?"
“No, not at all.” Ni Zhenzhen put the blanket down. “They also said that meeting is fate, and after dinner they were going to go to KTV and asked if I wanted to come along.”
Xu Tianzhou almost burst out laughing. This wasn't in his script, and he didn't know if Su Wenjin added it or if the others improvised it.
He joked, "Then why don't you go?"
"Can I go? I just want to get away as soon as possible."
"Really? I thought you were pretty shameless."
"What did you say? Are you asking for a beating?"
Ni Zhenzhen pounced on Xu Tianzhou, scratching him all over. Xu Tianzhou had nowhere to hide and could only beg for mercy. The two of them played around for a while, both of them a little out of breath.
Xu Tianzhou hugged her and said, "It's okay, no one knows you anyway, go to sleep."
"Oh my god..." Ni Zhenzhen groaned again, recalling the incredibly awkward scene at the dinner party.
