Chapter 3403 Great Ci’en Temple
Without waiting for Nan Yan to ask any more questions, he closed his eyes and said, "Okay, we still have to go to Da Ci'en Temple tomorrow, so go to bed early."
After saying this, Zhu Feng stopped talking.
Nan Yan lay in his arms, and in the faint moonlight she could see that his face was indeed a little tired. Recalling the thrilling scene on the boat today, although he still saved her two daughters in one go, Nan Yan, who had been with him for many years, could still feel that he was indeed not as agile as before.
But who can remain unchanged forever?
Even when she looked at herself in the mirror, she was no longer as youthful and beautiful as she was as a girl. Sometimes after laughing, the wrinkles at the corners of her mouth would take a long time to fade away. Aunt Tongyun even advised her not to laugh as recklessly as she used to.
But she just couldn't control herself. If she didn't laugh, what was the fun in living?
Thinking of this, Nan Yan couldn't help but smile softly.
Zhu Feng heard her laughter, but without opening his eyes, he said in a deep voice, "Are you still not asleep?"
Nan Yan immediately said, "I know."
After saying that, she put one arm around his neck, closed her eyes and fell asleep quietly.
The next morning, they both got up before daybreak.
Although he was no longer troubled by nightmares, Zhu Feng still slept better when he was next to Nan Yan. After a night's rest, he was obviously much more energetic than before. The breakfast sent from the imperial kitchen was as light as usual, but he ate a few more bites.
Just after breakfast, Concubine Yi came over.
With red eyes, she told the emperor and the imperial concubine that although Princess Yongping's fever had subsided a lot yesterday, the low-grade fever still persisted and had not improved after a whole night.
Zhu Feng specially took Nan Yan over to take a look.
Little Yongping's cheeks were red. Although he was still awake, he was also dazed and not quite clear-headed. When he opened his eyes and saw them, he could still call out: "Father...Empress Yan..."
Zhu Feng said: "Silly girl, it's the Imperial Concubine."
Nan Yan was almost laughing with anger and said, "It's already this late, Your Majesty, please don't worry about this."
Zhu Feng reached out and touched her face. It wasn't very hot, but she still had a slight fever. He turned to Concubine Yi and said, "There's no need to take her to Da Ci'en Temple today. You should stay in the palace and take good care of her."
Concubine Yi said with red eyes: "Yes."
Nan Yan also said softly, "Children are prone to illness during spring and summer. Don't worry too much, sister. He might recover soon. You stay in the palace and take good care of Yongping. If anything happens, send someone to tell me immediately."
Concubine Yi said, "I understand."
After saying that, Nan Yan followed Zhu Feng out of the palace and went to Da Ci'en Temple.
Xinping was with them in the carriage. She couldn't contain herself and kept looking out while leaning on the window. Nanyan kept telling her to be more obedient, but she didn't listen.
Zhu Feng asked, "You're still not listening? Who nearly fell off the boat yesterday and even frightened your sister into falling ill?"
When Xinping heard this, he immediately became obedient.
Zhu Feng said sullenly, "Even at Da Ci'en Temple, you are not allowed to run around. If you make trouble again today, I will beat you!"
Xinping had always been pampered and loved, and she had never seen Zhu Feng lose his temper. Seeing him like this, she became so quiet that she dared not speak anymore. She just slowly shrank to her mother's side. Nan Yan whispered, "Did you hear that? You're grown up now. If you act naughty again, you'll get a beating!"
Xinping stuck out his tongue.
The carriage continued to move forward, and after more than half an hour, it arrived at Da Ci'en Temple.
Although there are many temples and Taoist temples in Yan State, most of them are built on the mountains outside the city. Da Ci'en Temple is a rare temple built in the city, and it was built by the royal family. On weekdays, many people come here to burn incense and pray for blessings. However, today because the emperor is coming, martial law was imposed on this street early.
When the emperor and the concubine arrived here, the whole street was empty, the temple gate was open, and all the monks in the temple stood on both sides of the gate to greet them. They clasped their hands together, chanted Buddhist mantras in a low voice, and looked solemn.
"Amitabha."
Just after hearing the Buddhist chant, a tall monk came forward and bowed to Zhu Feng and Nan Yan: "This humble monk pays homage to the Emperor and the Imperial Concubine."
This person was none other than Shikong, the monk from Dabao Temple who had helped Ran Xiaoyu and Princess Xinping when they were stranded in Changqing City.
Today, he is also the abbot of Da Ci'en Temple.
He was accompanied by a young monk who was tall and thin, but had a handsome face.
He also followed Shikong in paying respects to the emperor and the imperial concubine, but his pair of exceptionally bright eyes flickered as he looked at Xinping.
Nan Yan suddenly recognized him: "You are Ming Xin, right?"
The little monk raised his head and smiled at Nan Yan, "Your Highness."
It was indeed Mingxin, the little monk who had carried Xiao Xiaoping in a basket and run around the city. Back then, he was just a little boy, but after not seeing him for ten years, he had grown into a young man.
When Xinping heard the name, he seemed familiar with it, but he couldn't remember it. He just blinked his big eyes and looked at the little monk Mingxin.
Zhu Feng also glanced at them, but there was no smile on his face. He just said lightly, "Let's go in first."
Everyone did not dare to delay and walked in one after another.
Mingxin followed behind the great monk Shikong and smiled at Xinping again.
A group of people followed Zhu Feng into the tall and majestic Da Ci'en Temple. The heavy door closed behind them. The inside had been rebuilt after the catastrophe and it still looked the same as when they first saw it. The temple was magnificent, the Buddha statues were solemn, and the air was filled with the faint scent of sandalwood. The monks' low chanting of Buddhist scriptures made people feel a little heavy in their hearts.
Zhu Feng walked in and washed his hands and worshipped Buddha with the imperial concubine and Princess Xinping.
After everything was done late, Xiao Shunzi behind him came forward.
When Nan Yan went out early this morning, she saw that Xiao Shunzi seemed to have prepared something special, but she didn't ask much. Only then did she see that he was holding a tray in his hand, and the tray was covered with a piece of bright yellow brocade.
The bulge inside looks like a large seal.
Xiao Shunzi walked up to Zhu Feng and said softly, "Your Majesty, everything is ready."
Zhu Feng nodded, then turned to Nan Yan and said, "Take Xinping to the side hall and have some tea first."
Nan Yan asked, "Where is the emperor going?"
Zhu Feng said, "I'll go to Chong'en Pagoda to take a look."
Nan Yan understood as soon as she heard it.
The Da Ci'en Temple was originally built to commemorate Emperor Gao and Empress Renxiao. The name of the Chong'en Pagoda comes from the Sutra of the Difficulty of Repaying the Kindness of Parents, which naturally has a profound meaning.
