Chapter 190: Special People

Chapter 190: Special People

"Mom, how is my wife? Open the door quickly, the midwife is here."

Wan Laosi anxiously banged on the door and shouted at the top of his voice.

Wan Ersao hurried over to open the door. As soon as the door opened, Wan Lao Si asked anxiously, "Second sister-in-law, how is my wife?"

Wan Laosi kept walking and hurried to the side room.

Wan Lao Er and the midwife followed in soon after, but they did not see Wan Lao Da.

"Old Four, you're back? Your wife gave birth to a big fat boy for you. Go and have a look. Be gentle and don't disturb your wife. She just gave birth and is resting. Don't wake her up."

When Wan Lao Si heard that his wife had given birth, he was dumbfounded. How could it be so fast? He remembered that when his sisters-in-law gave birth, they were in pain for a day or half a day. How could his wife give birth so quickly?

Wan Laosi walked into the house half-believing and half-doubting.

When Old Mrs. Wan saw the midwife following behind Old Second Wan, she went up to her with a smile.

"Big sister, my daughter-in-law has given birth, and the boy can't wait to come out and see the world. But you're still troubled to make this trip. Go inside and have a rest and drink some tea. I'll have my son take it back to you tomorrow morning."

The midwife was hired by Mrs. Qiu. People called her Mrs. Fang. She was said to be the best midwife in the area and well-known for miles around. Whenever a noblewoman gave birth, she would be brought in to stay with them for ten days or half a month before the birth. It was said that this midwife had a unique skill and could correct the fetal position. It was said to be miraculous.

"Sister-in-law, this shows that your grandson knows how to care for others and is afraid that his mother will suffer. But since I'm here, I'd better go and take a look to see if this is handled properly."

When Mrs. Wan heard this, she said happily, "That's right, elder sister. Thank you very much in that case."

Old Mrs. Wan led the way and took Mrs. Fang to the side room.

Wan Laosi came in first and saw that Liu's belly, which was round before, had become smaller. There was a baby lying next to her. Liu's face was a little pale, and she had a headband on her forehead and a quilt covering her body. She was sleeping soundly.

The room had been cleaned up, but there was still a faint smell of blood. Wan Laosi sat down on the kang quietly, stretched his neck to look inside at his newly born eldest son, with the corners of his mouth raised, and he felt inexplicably moved.

He stretched out his big hand, wanting to touch his son's wrinkled little face, but he didn't. He was afraid that if he used too much force, he would hurt the child's face, so he retracted his hand, grinned, and stared at his son without blinking.

When Old Lady Wan brought the midwife in, Old Fourth Wan quickly stood up from the kang.

"Mom, why did my wife give birth so quickly? Doesn't childbirth always last a long time?"

Mrs. Wan snorted at the fourth son, then turned to look at Granny Fang with a smile and said, "Excuse me, big sister. My silly son must be so happy that he doesn't even know what to say."

Old Lady Wan rolled her eyes at Old Fourth Wan again, "Isn't it better that your wife doesn't suffer as much? Do you still want your wife to spend a day or two lovingly giving birth? Your son knows how to love his mother, but you, as a husband, don't know how to love your wife? All right, don't stand here, you'll have something to watch out for later, go out for a while, and let your aunt check on your wife to see if there's anything that's not handled properly, you grown man, don't get in the way."

Wan Laosi touched the back of his head, smiled innocently, looked at his wife and son reluctantly, and went out.

Mother Fang examined Liu carefully and found that although the midwife's handling of the baby was clumsy, she had done everything that needed to be done, so she didn't say anything.

"It's okay, it's all right, everything is fine, but if the milk doesn't come, the baby's father will have to help suck it out, otherwise the mother's milk will be swollen and the baby won't be able to drink milk, and the adults will suffer. Make some soup for the mother to drink at night to help her produce milk, and the baby will have food tomorrow."

Old Mrs. Wan agreed to all the requests. She had given birth to several children and taken care of several daughters-in-law during their confinement. She understood all these things, but since people were kindly reminding her, she couldn't refuse their face.

"Big sister, I'll ask my daughter-in-law to cook the milk-producing soup on the stove. I'm glad you reminded me, otherwise my brain wouldn't work so well at my age. It's getting late, big sister, please stay with me tonight. My room is spacious."

"Okay, I'll trouble you, elder sister."

Old Mrs. Wan politely led everyone to the upper room, settled Mrs. Fang down, and then came out to instruct Mrs. Wan Er to stew the soup.

"Mom, you don't have to worry about this. I've already made the soup. When Fourth Sister-in-law wakes up, she can drink it. Pig's trotters stewed with soybeans is the best for increasing milk production. Don't worry."

"Okay, go to bed early when you're done. Let your fourth brother watch over it. I think he's very excited tonight and probably can't sleep. Just leave the things to him. You still have things to do tomorrow morning, so don't stay up too late today."

"I know, mother."

"Second brother, where is your eldest brother? Didn't he come back with you?" Old Mrs. Wan asked when she didn't see the eldest brother Wan.

Wan Laoer tied up the cow and put some feed in the cow. As soon as he came out, he heard Wan Laotai asking questions. He quickly replied, "Mom, my eldest brother said that my fourth brother is back. There is no one in the store. He stayed there to run errands, so he didn't come back with us."

"Okay, I get it. You guys take a break. We'll be busy tomorrow morning."

Nothing happened that night. Early the next morning, Old Mrs. Wan got up. Mrs. Fang was not young anymore and didn't sleep much. When she saw Old Mrs. Wan get up, she got up too.

Wan Ersao and Shen got up early, one cooking and the other cleaning the yard.

Old Mrs. Wan took out the money she had prepared long ago and handed it to Mrs. Fang.

"Big sister, you worked hard last night, take this money."

Mrs. Fang originally thought that since she had not delivered the baby, the old lady Wan would not pay her. However, she did not expect that she was a very particular person. Since she was a particular person, Mrs. Fang was not an unreasonable person.

When she saw that Old Lady Wan had given her a hundred dollars, she immediately returned half of it.

"Old sister, I didn't help you much last night. Normally, you can pay me or not, but in our business, we value auspiciousness. I will take 600 coins from you. I wish you good luck. Your family will be prosperous in the future. If you come to me for your next baby, I will come for sure."

Old Mrs. Wan refused for a long time, but Mrs. Fang just refused to accept it. Finally, Old Mrs. Wan had no choice but to accept four hundred coins. However, these six hundred coins were worth it. If someone in the family has another child in the future, they will have met a capable midwife in advance.

The two of them put on their clothes and came out. Wan Ersao had already prepared water for washing their faces.

"Mom, auntie, are you guys up? The water for washing your face is freshly prepared and still hot. Wash your face and the meal will be ready soon."

Mrs. Wan was quick and clear-headed, and Mrs. Fang liked her very much. She praised Mrs. Wan: "Old sister, you have a good daughter-in-law. No wonder your family is so harmonious. I really envy you."

When Wan Ersao was praised, Old Mrs. Wan was extremely happy, even happier than when she was praised herself. The wrinkles on her face looked like chrysanthemums from smiling so much.

After breakfast, Old Mrs. Wan asked Shen to accompany Mrs. Fang for a while, and she and Mrs. Wan went to the village chief's house and Ergouzi's house respectively.
