Chapter 294 Wan Lao Er Enters the County
When Wan Laoer drove the ox cart to the Wan family shop, it was not yet noon, but the shop was already full of people.
The weather has been cold recently and everyone wants to eat something hot. I don’t know what happened to the town recently, but a lot of foreign businessmen came. The large influx of businessmen were used to eating food inside the Great Wall and were not used to the food outside the Great Wall. I don’t know who spread the word that the food in Wanjia shop was good, and as a result, all these businessmen swarmed into Wanjia shop.
Wan Sansao has been very busy these past two days. Because Yu quit her job, Wan Sansao directly hired a woman from the town to help.
The woman was honest and simple, and everyone called her Mrs. Xu. After trying her out for two days, Mrs. Wan San felt that Mrs. Xu was a good person, so she hired her directly, paying her five hundred coins a month. Although the salary was high, the work was indeed a lot.
The other one is the village chief's wife. Even with the two of them helping out, Wan Sansao is still a little overwhelmed. However, if she hires more workers, the kitchen won't be able to handle the work.
Now Wan Sansao just hopes that the shop next door will be completed quickly so that they can renovate the shop, connect the two rooms, make the kitchen bigger, and hire more people to help.
It's not even dinner time yet, but the tables in the front are already full, and there are people queuing up in the back. Some people want to share a table, but there's no room, so all the rooms in the backyard have been vacated.
Wan Laoer was a little surprised at the sudden boom in business. He remembered that when he came here a few days ago, the business in the shop didn’t seem to be so booming.
Wan Laoer stopped the ox cart at the back door and carried Wan Xi and Wan Jiang down from the cart.
Wan Jiang ran to the back door.
"Mom, open the door, Mom!" Wan Jiang knew he was going to the town to study. Although he was not very happy, he was still very happy when he thought about living with his parents in the future.
Wan Jiang knocked on the door for a long time, but no one came to open it.
"Jiang'er, stop knocking. They are probably busy. As you saw just now, the shop in front is full of people. Your father, your twin brothers, and your fourth uncle must be busy right now. We can't help them much, so don't make things worse. I'll take you to the front door in a while, and you can go in directly from the front door."
Wan Laoer pulled Wan Jiang away, and the few of them were about to leave, but the door opened from the inside.
"Uncle? Why are you here? I thought someone was knocking on the door. Come in quickly."
The person who opened the door was Wan Shuang. He happened to be serving tea to the guests in the backyard room when he heard someone knocking on the door.
"Shuang'er, why are there so many people in the store? Business has been good these days!"
Wan Laoer had an excited smile on his face. Although he could not help much, he knew that if the business in the shop was good, he would get more dividends. Now all the money in the family was given to Wan Wen to go to school. He wanted to buy something for his wife and daughter, but he had little money. There were quite a few jewelry in the house, but Wan Er's wife would not let him touch them, saying that they were all dowry accumulated for Xiao Fubao.
After Wan Shuang led a few people in, the back door was wide open and there was an ox cart outside. Wan Laoer didn't dare to go too far, and he still had to rush to the county town. If he left too late, the city gates might be closed.
It's freezing cold now. If he were really locked outside, he would definitely die.
"Uncle, these people are all merchants from the interior of the country. They heard that we have built a new trade center and want to trade with neighboring countries, so they came here. But you know how people from the interior of the country can stand the weather at the border, and they must be very particular about food. In the whole town, only my third aunt's cooking skills are the same as those of the chefs from the interior of the country. They all crowded into our shop. It has been like this every day for the past two days. The shop is full before noon, and there are still people coming to eat in the middle of the night."
Wan Shuang talked about the recent situation in the shop, his little face full of excitement. He finally experienced what it meant to have customers flocking in large numbers, and it really lived up to the name of their shop.
After hearing the reason, Wan Laoer suddenly remembered the discussions he heard at the entrance of the town just now.
I had a vague feeling of worry in my heart, and thought of Wanquan who had secretly signed up to join the army. I wondered where that guy was now?
"Shuang'er, I brought these two boys to your uncle. Didn't your uncle say last time that they could enter the private school in the next two days? I was delayed by something at home these two days. I don't know if it's too late or not."
"Second uncle, Third uncle is going to see the master tomorrow. It's just right that you send the person here today. But I heard that there seems to be a war going on in the frontier three hundred miles away from us. I don't know if it will reach us."
Wan Shuang's words made Wan Lao Er's face pale. He quickly grabbed Wan Shuang's arm and whispered, "Shuang'er, you said we are also fighting a war?"
"I heard that it is true. I have met many people from the north who have fled here recently. What they said should be true."
Wan Laoer no longer had the heart to stay here. He knew that he would not be able to find out any information here. He had to go to the county town quickly. Maybe he could find out some useful information from the county town, so that they could prepare earlier.
After Wan Laoer handed the brothers Wan Xi and Wan Jiang to Wan Shuang, he left in a hurry.
"Shuang'er, tell your uncle that I've been here. I have to go to the county town to do some work. I'll come to see you when I come back."
Wan Laoer sat on the ox cart, raised the whip and urged the ox's tail, and the ox cart started moving slowly. His voice came from outside, but the man had already walked far away.
Wan Shuang stretched his head to take a look, and seeing that Wan Lao Er had gone far away, he quickly locked the back door, led Wan Jiang and Wan Xi into the kitchen, told Wan San's wife, and went back to do his own thing.
Wan Laoer entered the county town when the city gates were closed.
He went straight to Mr. Wan's house.
"Knock knock"
"Who is it?"
The servant opened the door a crack, stuck half of his head out and took a look outside. With the light from the two lanterns hanging at the gate, he could see the face of the person clearly and quickly opened the door.
"So it's the Second Master who's here? Second Master, please come in."
Wan Laoer smiled and nodded at the servant, and was about to drive the ox cart. The servant was very considerate and quickly snatched the whip from Wan Laoer's hand.
"Second Master, just leave this ox cart to me. Go ahead and I promise to feed the ox well for you."
Wan Laoer thanked him and walked into the yard.
There were servants on duty in the yard. When they saw Wan Lao Er coming, they hurriedly bowed and greeted him. Some servants hurried to inform Wan Lao Da.
"Second brother? Why are you here? Did something happen at home?" The eldest brother Wan quickly put his arm around the second brother Wan's shoulders and walked into the house.
It was dinner time. Wan Lao Da, Shen, and Wan Hu were having dinner. When they heard Wan Lao Er coming, Wan Lao Da immediately put down his bowl and chopsticks and ran out.
