Chapter 425: Getting a Bargain

Chapter 425: Getting a Bargain

The shopkeeper quickly waved his hand and explained: "Customer, please listen to me and I will explain the reason in detail. You don't have to spend so much money."

When Wan Laoer heard that he didn't have to spend so much money, he sat down patiently and listened to the carpenter explain the whole thing.

Although the carpenter was a businessman, he was a craftsman and was honest in his business and a kind person. Moreover, if he did not sell the carriage to Wan Laoer, he would probably lose it because there were not many families in the county who could afford a carriage of this price, and his family was not short of carriages. Even if he had to lose money this time, he would still get rid of the carriage.

"Boss, in that case, the family still owes you forty taels of silver for the carriage, and I only plan to spend twenty taels for a carriage. The amount you mentioned is twice as much as I thought."

The carpenter was in a dilemma. The other party was only willing to pay twenty taels. Even if he only took the capital, it would cost seventy taels. He would lose ten taels of silver in the process, and he would have to make two more carriages to earn it back.

"My dear, do you think this is okay? I'll tell you the truth. I earned ten taels of silver from these two carriages. After deducting these ten taels of silver, I still have seventy taels of silver for the wood. Can you give me these seventy taels? I'll build you a carriage for free."

Wan Laoer was also in a dilemma. Although he still had a lot of silver on him, he was going to the capital, and it would cost a lot of money on the way, so he had to be frugal.

"Boss, I really don't have that much money. I am also a peasant. All my family savings have been used to buy horses. I am just going to build a normal carriage to shelter me from the wind and rain."

"Then how about this, can you add another five or two lines?" The carpenter looked at Wan Laoer eagerly.

Wan Lao Er thought for a moment and said, "Then I have to go check out the carriage first."

"No problem. Please follow me. The carriage is in the yard. You can harness the horses and drive away in a moment."

The carpenter was very happy and quickly invited Wan Laoer to the yard.

Wan Laoer walked around the carriage, touched this and looked there, then climbed into the carriage and found that the space inside was indeed not small. Fubao could even sleep in it. There was also a mezzanine, a small table, and storage compartments. It was better than any carriage he had seen. No wonder it was so expensive.

Wan Lao Er got off the carriage and said in a somewhat embarrassed tone, "I think this carriage is no different except that it's a little bigger. Since you've asked for it, I can't let you lose too much. I'll give you twenty-five taels of silver."

The carpenter nodded repeatedly, "Okay, okay."

The carpenter said "yes" three times in a row, and when he saw Wan Laoer take out his purse, he finally felt relieved.

"Shopkeeper, please count it. It's twenty-five taels of silver in total."

The carpenter took it with both hands, counted it carefully, and said with a smile: "Yes, it's just enough. Then I can help you put the carriage on it?"

"Then I'll have to trouble you, shopkeeper."

Fubao kept looking at the carriage curiously, and was very happy in her heart. Their family finally had a carriage, and she could go out in the carriage in the future.

Fubao followed the carriage and ran out happily, jumping and skipping.

The carpenter skillfully put the carriage in place and let Wan Laoer get on to try it out.

Wan Laoer carried Fubao into the carriage and sat her down, then said in a loud voice, "Sit tight, my girl. Daddy is going to drive the carriage."

Fubao excitedly poked his little head out of the window, looked at the streets on both sides, and screamed with excitement.

"Dad, this new carriage is great! It's not as bumpy as an oxcart, it's warm, and it smells good."

Wan Laoer was driving the carriage in front, his mouth almost stretched to the sky. He laughed and said, "As long as my daughter likes it, it's worth buying this carriage."

After a test drive, Wan Laoer rushed back.

"Boss, this carriage is nice, my daughter likes it very much, and I have tried it, there is no problem, we will leave now, you are busy."

After saying goodbye to the carpenter, Wan Laoer immediately drove the carriage towards the county government office.

It was already dark at this time, and night lights had been hung on both sides of the street. The dim lights swayed in the wind in the cold night.

When Wan Laoer arrived at the gate of the county government office, it was already closed.

He had no choice but to go to the corner gate to ask the gatekeeper.

"Little brother, the luggage I left here during the day has not been taken away yet. I wonder if the yamen runners have given any instructions?"

Wan Laoer knocked on the corner door and asked the servant who came to open the door.

"Oh, it's Master Wan Er. Yes, the yamen runner told me to bring it to you when you come to pick it up. It's all in my gatehouse. Please wait and I'll get it for you."

The servant quickly turned around and went back. After a while, he took out Wan Laoer's luggage. He had to run two trips to get it all.

"Master Wan, are you going on a long journey?"

"Yes, I am going to the capital, but I am not going far away."

Wan Laoer said happily as he put the luggage into the car.

"That's really far away. I can't come back for the New Year, but it's definitely better to go to the capital than to spend the New Year at home. I heard that the capital is very prosperous. I don't think I'll have the chance to go there in my lifetime. Master Wan, please go there and tell me about it when you come back. It will also broaden my horizons."

"Okay, I'll treat you to tea when I get back from the capital, and I'll talk to you in detail."

Wan Laoer got on the carriage, picked up the whip, shouted softly, and the carriage slowly moved forward.

The servant raised his voice and said, "Then I'll wait for you to come back and treat me to tea?" The servant watched Wan Lao Er go away before turning back.

Wan Laoer found an inn to stay for the night. Many shops were closed now, so he had nowhere to buy things, and it was not safe to walk at night.

"Fubao, shall we stay at an inn?"

"Okay, Daddy, Fubao is very hungry, shall we go eat braised pork?"

When Fubao thought about the braised pork, his saliva began to flow, and his stomach growled even louder.

Wan Laoer quickly found an inn and paid the silver. After parking the carriage in the backyard of the inn, he took Fubao to the nearest restaurant for dinner.

The night at the border is magical. It is quiet outside, but the pub is bustling.

Because it is cold at the border, everyone likes to come out at night and have a few drinks to warm themselves up.

Therefore, the business of various restaurants is better at night.

As soon as Wan Laoer came in, he saw that the lobby was already full of people.

"The guests are here, how many of us are there?"

The waiter bent down and welcomed Wan Lao Er in with a smile on his face.

"It's just me and my daughter."

The waiter asked, "How about we go upstairs, sir?"

Wan Laoer looked up and saw some smaller tables and chairs placed on the aisle outside the private room on the second floor, specially for customers dining in groups of two or three.

Wan Laoer was not picky. He nodded and followed the waiter to the second floor, where the view was wide and much more comfortable than the first floor.

"Sir, please take a seat. What would we like to eat?"

"Braised pork--" Fubao blurted out impatiently, which showed how much she wanted to eat it.

Wan Lao Er smiled and patted Fu Bao's head. He looked at the waiter and said, "Then I'll have a plate of braised pork, one of your signature dishes, and a bowl of rice."

During the past few years that Wan Laoer has lived at the border, he still likes to eat rice. People at the border mainly eat noodles, but the Wan family likes to eat rice.

Especially Fubao, she has to eat braised pork with rice.

The waiter poured two cups of hot water for the two of them and then ran downstairs.

"Brother? That voice sounds very familiar to me. I didn't expect that we would meet again."

Someone patted Wan Laoer's shoulder from behind.

Wan Laoer quickly turned his head and saw that it was Lao Ding who sold the horse to him.
