Chapter 480: Entering the Pass
It was almost noon and the sky was gloomy, as if it was going to snow heavily.
Wan Laoer and his group were at the end of the line. There were seventy or eighty people queuing in front of them, and they could only vaguely see the city gate.
Jia Yanbing opened the car door and said to Wan Laoer, "Brother Wan, those people may be related to the person behind the scenes in Beijing. We must be careful and try to find out if they are looking for someone."
Wan Laoer also planned so, and he handed the carriage to Jia Yanbing.
"Mr. Yan, please come out and drive the car first. I'll go to the front to find out the situation."
Jia Yanbing put on the mask, leaving only the area below his nose exposed. Even if he stood in front of the killers now, they probably wouldn't be able to recognize him.
Wan Laoer ran over and didn't come back until a quarter of an hour later.
Seeing that he looked nervous, Jia Yanbing knew that the situation was not good.
"How is it?" Jia Yanbing immediately asked in a deep voice.
Wan Laoer glanced at the people around him who were looking at them. He shook his head, said nothing, and quickly got on the carriage.
"Mr. Yan, go in and talk."
The two of them entered the carriage together, and Wan Laoer whispered, "I saw those officers and soldiers holding your portrait and checking it one by one. We definitely can't get in like this. We must find a way."
Jia Yanbing's fingers were clenched so tightly that they turned white, and his eyes were terrifyingly gloomy. He didn't know who the other party was, but he already wanted to kill him and had even reached out to the border.
Jia Yanbing took a deep breath. The more this happened, the more he had to fight him. He absolutely could not die. He had to find that person, even if he died, he had to die knowingly.
Fubao suddenly exclaimed, interrupting their conversation.
"Dad, look, they're performing." Fubao shouted excitedly, pointing at a convoy coming from behind.
Fubao likes to watch opera. During the Chinese New Year, Wan Laoer would take her to fairs where there would be opera performances, and Fubao would be fascinated by them.
Wan Laoer wanted to give a perfunctory response, but saw Jia Yanbing had already stuck his head out to look.
Wan Laoer also looked out from another window.
I saw a convoy behind Old Sheephead and his companions, pulling suitcases. A man sitting in the carriage was looking out of the window, but he seemed to be putting on makeup, with a face full of grease paint.
Jia Yanbing's eyes lit up, and he quickly said to Wan Laoer: "Brother Wan, there is a way."
Wan Laoer quickly asked Jia Yanbing to speak.
Jia Yanbing whispered some instructions in Wan Laoer's ear, and Wan Laoer's eyes lit up and he quickly got off the carriage.
He quickly came to the front of the carriage behind, said something to the driver, and took out a silver ingot from his pocket and handed it to him. The driver immediately smiled and took the silver happily. Not long after, Wan Laoer came back with some things.
"Mr. Yan, I bought something. Can you take a look and see if it's this?"
Wan Laoer happily handed the things to Jia Yanbing.
There was a box filled with rouge, powder, various oil paints, wigs, beards, mirrors and combs.
Jia Yanbing was overjoyed. Now he was sure to pass the test. It was truly a blessing from heaven.
Wan Laoer was driving the carriage outside, and Jia Yanbing began to put on makeup in front of the mirror. Fubao looked at Jia Yanbing curiously as she painted her fair face black, stuck two mustaches on her lips, and used a red pen to draw a big red mole on her chin. She also wore a wig on her head, but the wig had no hair on the top.
When Jia Yanbing put it on, he looked like a bald man, extremely ugly.
"Sir, you look so ugly dressed like this. Fubao can hardly recognize you."
Jia Yanbing said with a smile: "It shows that I dressed very successfully, but this is not enough, Fubao, give me your small bag of clothes."
Fubao turned around and took a look, then picked out the smallest bag from his luggage and handed it to Jia Yanbing.
Jia Yanbing untied his outer robe, put Fubao's small bag on his back, and then put on his outer robe, becoming a hunchback.
Dressed like this, even Jia Yanbing's mother wouldn't be able to recognize her.
"Brother Wan, I'm done dressing up. Can you help me check if there's anything wrong?"
Upon hearing this, Wan Laoer came in and took a look. His eyes almost popped out of his head in shock. Was this still the gentle and handsome man from a quarter of an hour ago?
Now in front of him was an old and ugly hunchback.
"Mr. Yan, you are amazing. They definitely won't be able to recognize you."
Jia Yanbing felt a little relieved.
At this time, their carriage was already approaching the city gate, but Jia Yanbing's heartbeat became inexplicably faster.
Seeing that Jia Yanbing was a little anxious, Fubao snuggled up to him obediently and said softly, "Sir, everything will be fine, don't worry."
When Jia Yanbing heard Fubao's voice, the restlessness in his heart instantly dissipated and he calmed down a lot.
"Stop, roll up the window, and take out the pass."
A rough voice came from outside.
Jia Yanbing lowered his head subconsciously, and suddenly remembered that he had already dressed up, and he felt a little more at ease.
Wan Laoer parked the carriage, took out Fubao and his pass from his pocket, and handed them to the soldiers with both hands.
"Sir, this is the pass for me and my daughter."
"Where are you going?"
"Sir, we are going to the capital to visit relatives."
The officers and soldiers looked at Wan Laoer for a few times, and seeing that there was nothing wrong with him, they returned the pass to him.
"Who else is in your carriage?"
"And an uncle."
"Where is his pass?"
Wan Laoer knocked on the carriage a few times and said, "Uncle, give me your pass. The soldiers need to check it."
Jia Yanbing had already prepared the pass and asked Fubao to hand it to Wan Laoer.
Wan Laoer took it and handed it to the officers and soldiers for inspection.
The officers and soldiers took a look into the carriage and found an old and ugly hunchback sitting inside, so they directly returned the pass to Wan Laoer.
"Okay, let's go."
Wan Laoer thanked him repeatedly, put away the pass, drove the carriage away quickly and passed through the city gate smoothly.
"Wait a minute." Another person's voice came.
Wan Laoer's hand couldn't help but tremble, and Jia Yanbing couldn't help but hold his breath.
Wan Laoer had no choice but to stop the carriage. At this time, a group of soldiers came from behind. They were entering the city. No one knew which direction they came from, but they looked like cavalry.
"The superiors have ordered that from today onwards all carriages entering the country must be inspected thoroughly."
Wan Laoer didn't know whether to move forward or stop, and just when he didn't know what to do, a soldier came over with a spear in his hand.
"No parking here, leave now."
Wan Lao Er responded repeatedly: "Hey, okay, let's go now, let's go now."
Jia Yanbing in the carriage leaned against the wall and breathed a sigh of relief. After passing this hurdle, the rest would be easy. He hoped that the road ahead would be smooth.
Wan Laoer drove the carriage forward for a distance, waiting for Lao Yangtou and his group to come. After they met, they continued to move forward.
Jia Yanbing led the way towards the home of a sheep dealer he knew.
