Chapter 611: Picking Up a Loss
The shopkeeper ordered his men to take the box, pour the junk inside into the rusty iron box, and let the man take it home.
Fubao watched the man move the box with great effort. The box was still shrouded in a ball of golden light.
Fu Bao was a little surprised. Could it be that the good stuff was still in that pile of junk? She looked back at the wooden box that the shopkeeper bought. Although it also had golden light, it was very faint and could not be compared with the iron box.
"Big brother, let's go."
"good."
The shopkeeper quickly sent the few people out of Jubaozhai, hoping that the little girl would not come again in the future.
He was almost certain to buy the box with ten taels of silver, but because of the little girl's interruption, he had to pay ninety taels more. However, the box was indeed a good thing, made of the finest golden nanmu wood. It would be no problem for him to sell it for five thousand taels.
"Sister, where are we going next? What else do you want to buy?" Wan Quan smiled as he looked at Fubao in his arms.
Wan Lao Er hurriedly stopped him and said, "Quan'er, you've spent so much money today. Let's stop shopping and go back. Your salary is not much, and you have so many people to support. Forty thousand taels is not a small amount. Second uncle still has some money. If you don't have enough, I'll give it to you first."
"Uncle, don't worry, I have money. The emperor gave me a lot of things. I am usually in the military camp and rarely go back to the general's mansion. I have no place to spend money. My sister is here, just to help me spend the money."
As the two were talking, Fubao's eyes were always looking for the man he had just seen.
"Sister, what are you looking for?"
"Look for that uncle, big brother. There are good things in that uncle's box. We must buy them."
"Fubao, are you sure? The shopkeeper just said that those are just a pile of junk. I also looked at them. Everything inside is rusty and covered with spots. How can there be any good stuff in there?"
Wan Laoer thought Fubao was talking nonsense.
"Really, big brother, believe me, it really exists."
Fubao was a little anxious.
"Okay, let's go after him."
Wan Quan was carrying Fubao as they moved through the crowd. The man was carrying a broken box which was quite heavy, and he was not walking fast, so he was soon caught up by Wan Quan.
"Uncle, please stay."
Wanquan shouted at the man's back.
The man felt the voices were familiar and turned his head with difficulty, and saw that they were the people from Jubaozhai.
"My Lord, are you calling me?"
The man stood there, waiting for a few people to come forward.
"Uncle, are you going home?" Fubao asked in a crisp voice.
"Yes, my family lives in the village. I took someone's ox cart to the city. We agreed to wait at the city gate. If it's too late, I won't be able to go back."
"Uncle, did you only dig this one box?"
The man listened to Fubao's question and stammered.
"Why do you ask that, Miss?"
Fubao knew at first glance that there must be more than one. She just had a feeling, so she asked directly, but she didn't expect that there really was more than one.
"Uncle, it's tiring to carry this box home. Why don't you sell it to me? I'll give you one thousand taels of silver. Is that okay with you?"
The man was so shocked by Fubao's words that he almost couldn't hold the box.
"What? One thousand taels! Miss, you are not kidding, are you? The shopkeeper just said that the things in here are worthless. Miss, don't feel sorry for me. I have already earned a hundred taels of silver, and I am very satisfied. This hundred taels of silver is enough for our family to have food and drink without worries."
"Then don't you want your grandchildren to have enough food and clothing?"
Fubao's words seemed to touch the man's heart. He was stunned for a moment, then lowered his head and smiled embarrassedly: "Miss, you are joking. Our family is too poor. I haven't even found a wife yet, let alone children and grandchildren."
Fubao and Wanquan were both extremely surprised. This man looked to be at least thirty years old and had not yet married. He was truly pitiful.
In fact, this man is only in his early twenties. He has been working in the fields all year round and has a pair of bedridden parents at home. He has been tortured by life and looks much older than his peers.
"Then uncle can use this silver to marry a wife and continue the family line. As the saying goes, there are three types of unfilial behavior, and the worst is to have no offspring. I will give uncle one thousand taels of silver to buy all the things in your box. Can you also give me the things in your family?"
"Miss, thank you so much. You are really a living Bodhisattva. I do have five boxes of these things at home, but they are all rusty. But they do have a wooden box like the one just now. If you want to buy them, I will give you one thousand taels. Only those wooden boxes are valuable. If you hadn't said that just now, I would have sold them for ten taels of silver. I haven't thanked you properly yet."
Wan Laoer behaved very calmly this time. He had figured out something. This was probably his daughter finding a bargain. He had experienced similar things several times before. The first time was when he bought land, the second time was when he bought a shop, and there were many other times in between that he didn't have to think about. It seemed that the bargain this time was quite big, otherwise his stingy daughter would not be so generous as to spend one thousand taels.
But Wan Laoer couldn't understand why these things were so valuable. They were obviously rusted. The shopkeeper said that they were worthless and just a pile of junk. He racked his brains but couldn't figure out what was so valuable about them. How could he pick up such a bargain?
Before Wan Laoer could figure out what to do, Fubao had already called him.
"Dad, please follow this uncle to his house and bring all the remaining things. I will give him two thousand taels of silver in total."
The man waved his hands after hearing this, "No, no, absolutely not. These things are worthless. Although my family is poor, my mother said that people should not be greedy. The young lady gave me one thousand taels of silver, but I already felt like I was dreaming. I would feel uncomfortable if she gave me another thousand taels."
"Well, I won't force him. Daddy will give him one thousand taels of silver."
Fubao looked at the man in front of him and thought that giving him too much money might cost him his life, so he decided to just give him one thousand taels.
"Uncle, let me remind you that you should not show off your wealth, otherwise your life may be in danger."
The man thought it was just a kind reminder from Fubao and didn't take it to heart, but he was a cautious person at heart, so he wouldn't show off casually.
"Thank you for the reminder, Miss. I will keep it in mind."
After the man finished speaking, he pointed to the box on his shoulder and said, "Then I won't take this box back with me. How about I help you take it back?"
"No need, Banxia, just send the box back."
"yes."
The man opened his eyes wide, looked at the thin Banxia, and stuttered: "Sir, this... should I do it?"
Banxia walked forward without saying a word, took the box from the man's shoulder, and carried it easily on her own shoulder.
"this......"
The man kept saying "this" for a long time without uttering a complete sentence. When he saw Banxia leaving lightly, he came to his senses and became more cautious. These people did not look like ordinary people, and it was indeed true.
