Chapter Seventy-Five: The Acting Mother and Son

Xu Moran didn't dwell on such small details for long. Later, she realized that once a person's behavioral patterns are formed, they are very difficult to change.

For example, when she puts her phone in her bag, no matter how rushed or flustered she is, she will always put it in the outermost compartment.

One day later, when Xu Moran recalled the moment she misplaced her phone, she could only chuckle. It wasn't that she was too stupid, but that Xu Ye was too clever; she was no match for him at all.

Xu Moran checked the time on her phone. There was still half an hour before her afternoon shift, enough time for her to walk from here to the police station. So, deciding to save two yuan on subway fare, she lifted her foot and strode towards the police station.

After walking about halfway, I checked my phone again and saw that I still had twenty minutes left. There was no need to rush like before, so I slowed down and strolled through the bustling city center, which had a strong commercial vibe.

As she walked, she suddenly heard a commotion in the distance. Looking in the direction of the sound, she saw a large crowd gathered in front of a tall building.

Even Xu Moran, who paid no attention to the economic trends in B City, knew that the building was the Xiao Group Building.

Which Xiao family?

Aside from the Xiao family, which built an entire commercial building in the most bustling commercial center of B City, which other family possesses such formidable financial resources and strength, given that the patriarch passed away not long ago, the eldest son of the first wife of Xiao is missing, and the family is temporarily in power with the son of the second wife?

Driven by his professional instincts as a police officer, Xu Moran walked toward the entrance of the Xiao Group building, where the commotion had turned into a noisy din.

Normally, the Xiao family building is off-limits to unauthorized personnel. Before Xu Moran could even get close, security personnel composed of recruited veterans came out to dissuade him.

Thanks to the argument today, Xu Moran was able to get close to the legendary business magnates who stand at the top of B City's business world, whose mere stomp of their foot could cause an earthquake in B City's economy.

People in different positions have different perspectives on things and consider them differently. Xu Moran looked at the magnificent commercial building in front of him and thought about the things that Sun Xingchao had investigated.

The Xiao family may seem to dominate the economy of B City, but they rely on the black market behind them. Their so-called "whitewashing" has not even reached a third of its original purpose.

In other words, beneath this towering, magnificent commercial building that comes into view lies a mountain of bones, and the number of bones is constantly increasing.

As Xu Moran approached, the noise in the crowd quickly escalated into a fight, and because there were so many people, it was likely to turn into a brawl once the fighting started.

Although Xu Moran graduated from police academy and had some martial arts skills, she wasn't arrogant enough to think she could handle a fight on her own. She was about to take out her phone to call her colleague and ask the police station in charge of the area to send someone over as soon as possible.

Someone in the crowd shouted, "Xiao Yang, Xiao Yang is here!"

The crowd, who almost came to blows, all looked in the same direction.

Xu Moran was no exception. Following the crowd's gaze, she saw a young man in a suit and tie walking out of the Xiao Group building.

"Xiao Yang, give me back my hard-earned money!" someone shouted from the crowd.

"Xiao Yang, are you even human? Your father has only been dead for a short time, and you're already trying to lay us all off? Do you have any conscience?!" someone shouted from the crowd.

"Xiao Yang, where is Qian Yue'e? Is she hiding and too scared to come out? Tell her to come out! Since she has the guts to fire us old employees, why is she acting like a coward and not daring to show her face!"

"Who just said I was too scared to come out?" A woman's voice came from the lobby of the Xiao Group building. As the voice reached everyone's ears, a figure also appeared in everyone's eyes.

The woman was adorned with dazzling jewels, so bright and eye-catching that even Xu Moran, standing on the outermost edge of the crowd, could clearly see her face.

Although she was no longer young, she was well-maintained. If Xu Moran hadn't seen Qian Yue'e's age in the information, he would have thought the woman not far away was at most in her thirties. In fact, Qian Yue'e was already in her forties.

Qian Yue'e, as expected of someone who had been by Old Master Xiao's side for many years, despite her humble origins, had lost much of her petty nature after years of living the life of a wealthy wife and being influenced by high society. She remained calm in the face of so many people causing trouble.

A pair of eyes painted with golden-brown eyeshadow quickly scanned everyone present, finally settling on one person.

Xu Moran looked in that direction and could only see the back of the person's head. The hair was gray and there were wrinkles on the neck. It was an elderly person.

As expected, the person being stared at by Qian Yue'e was indeed an old man. His old age was not only due to his physical age, but also because of his long tenure in the Xiao family.

All that could be heard was Qian Yue'e giving the old man a cold laugh, "Uncle Bian, you shouldn't be making such a big show of it. Back when the master was still alive, he never mistreated you!"

The old man, known as Uncle Bian, gave Qian Yue'e an even louder sneer. "Qian Yue'e, judging from your tone, you really think you're the proper Mrs. Xiao. I've lived longer than you and eaten more food than you've eaten salt. There's an old saying that you haven't heard before, so I think I'll tell it to you today, even if I have to rely on my age."

Qian Yue'e looked at Uncle Bian expressionlessly.

Uncle Bian snorted again, "A beggar is a beggar; even if he wears a dragon robe, he won't look like an emperor!"

The implication was that even if Qian Yue'e held the title of Madam Xiao, so what? She was still the same socialite from back then.

Without using a single swear word, the words that dug up Qian Yue'e's past made her face change drastically. Her feigned composure, elegance, calmness, and steadiness turned into a blush of anger and embarrassment with each of Uncle Bian's words.
