Chapter Thirteen only makes one request.

As she turned and walked towards the door again, Xu Moran secretly breathed a sigh of relief. In front of Sun Xingchao, she felt like a primary school student. It wasn't that Sun Xingchao was being mean to her, but rather that she herself had a bad attitude and needed to adjust.

Sun Xingchao's voice came again, tinged with a hint of amusement, "During this extraordinary time, you can also let your little boyfriend spend more time with you."

What?

Hearing these words from Sun Xingchao, Xu Moran thought she had misheard. When did she get a boyfriend? And a young boyfriend at that?

"Captain Sun." Xu Moran turned to look at Sun Xingchao, and was about to deny the accuracy of his information when a flash of inspiration struck her. She closed her mouth, which had been open, and stared at Sun Xingchao with wide eyes.

Sun Xingchao placed his hands, folded under his chin, and looked back at Xu Moran with a half-smile. "Xiao Xu, is there anything else?"

Xu Moran felt his face getting hotter and said repeatedly, "Captain Sun, I'm fine now. If you don't have anything else, I'll go out now."

Sun Xingchao nodded. "Go ahead and get busy."

The moment Xu Moran stepped out of the office, Sun Xingchao's eyes lit up as he watched her retreating figure, a fleeting, unfathomable complexity passing through them.

Xu Moran had just sat down in her seat and hadn't even had time to pour herself some water when her phone rang in her bag. When she took it out, she saw that it was her home landline.

That phone was a free gift when she rented the apartment and got broadband installed. Xu Moran originally didn't want it; the police station was busy during the day, and they had to work at night if there was an emergency. Besides, she was an orphan and had no relatives to contact her, so getting a landline would be a waste.

As a proud police officer, Xu Moran still considers it his duty not to waste any social resources.

It just so happened that Jiang Moli brought her daughter to her place to play that day. "Anyway, it's free, so let's install it. In case your phone is out of service or something, it will be convenient for me to contact you. Besides, when Zhenzhen gets a little older, I will have to go out to work, and she will occasionally need to leave her here with you. It will be convenient for her to call me, and landlines don't have much radiation."

It seems that this landline, which had been installed for three years and had barely rung or made a single call, ultimately benefited not Jiang Moli, but the man she picked up last night.

"Hello." The office is an open-plan environment, so it's not appropriate to take a personal call. Xu Moran took the opportunity to go into the tea room to answer the call while getting water. Even in the tea room, she kept her voice very low.

Where there are people, there is no shortage of gossip. She still needs to be careful, as the previous incident had already reached Sun Xingchao's ears: the fact that there was a man in her house.

"When are you coming back?" The moment I put the phone to my ear and said "hello," a man's voice, as beautiful as a cello, came from the other end of the line.

Xu Moran held her phone between her ear and shoulder to free her hands to pour water. "I just got to work."

"But I'm hungry," the man persisted.

"Didn't I make breakfast for you?" Besides, he was sitting at the table eating when Xu Moran left. It's only been a short while, and he's already hungry. Does being tall mean you digest food quickly? That doesn't make sense. He's so well-proportioned, and he's not a fat person who's greedy but gets hungry easily.

"Didn't you eat?" Xu Moran could only think of this one possibility, and before he could answer, she asked him again.

The man's soft sigh reached Xu Moran's ears through the microphone, "Not long after you left, I heard a knock at the door. When I opened it, I saw a dark figure rush in. I thought it was one of the thief's accomplices from last night coming to take revenge, so I quickly ran into the kitchen to grab a knife..."

Logically speaking, Xu Moran should have been very nervous upon hearing this. The thief was caught last night, and his accomplices retaliated this morning.

However, she remained remarkably calm, partly due to the man's declarative tone, but more so because of the deep trust she held in him.

It's really strange. They've only known each other for less than a day, yet they've formed a complete trust. No matter how much Xu Moran tells herself that she's not a three-year-old and can't just trust a stranger so easily, her heart is the most honest thing in the world, and she can't even fool herself.

"And then?" Xu Moran asked impatiently when she heard him stop to drink water.

"And then," the man's pleasant voice continued, "when I rushed into the kitchen to grab a knife, and then rushed into the living room, I saw a dog sitting on the sofa. Guess what it was doing?"
