Chapter Ninety-Eight: Rabies Knowledge

Xu Moran had never doubted her eyesight, including what she saw right in front of her.

Pei Hang didn't expect Xu Moran to suddenly turn around and look at him. By the time he realized what was happening, it was too late to hide the fruit in his hand. He barely managed to suppress his amused expression.

Young Master Pei wasn't some fresh-out-of-school lad; he had his own shrewdness. He raised his hand, placed the fruit, which he had bitten countless times, in front of him, sighed deeply, and muttered to himself, "Sigh, ever since the day I learned to walk more than twenty years ago, a dog peed on my leg, I've developed the habit of eating fruit whenever I get dog pee on me."

Xu Moran, "..."

She looked at Xiaomei, who was tilting its head and looking at Pei Hang. Although it didn't bark, it was clear from its expression that it felt wronged.

Pei Hang ignored the aggrieved look Xiao Mei gave him as a dog, brought the apple in front of him to his mouth, and took another bite.

The apple tasted great; Pei Hang chewed it with gusto, and you could tell from his expression that it was both crisp and sweet.

Xu Moran watched him eat the apple, but then something occurred to her, and her expression changed slightly. She asked him in a low voice, "Where is this apple from?"

Hearing Xu Moran's question, Pei Hang felt a little unhappy. He had only eaten one apple from the two big bags that Xiao Anhe had brought. Why did his expression change so suddenly?

"Officer Xu." Young Master Pei, thick-skinned as ever, didn't answer Xu Moran's question but instead asked, "Aren't those two bags of fruit you brought for our neurology expert, Dr. Li?"

His words had a hidden meaning; since it was bought for Li Shaojun, he could certainly eat it too.

When mentioned, Dr. Li, a "neurology expert," merely glanced up briefly without saying a word and continued reading his book.

Xu Moran took several deep breaths, knowing that what she was about to say would make Pei Hang very uncomfortable, but she still decided to say it, "Dr. Pei, the apple you ate was bitten by Xiao Mei."

The apple I bought for 300 yuan was supposedly the best apple in the fruit shop, so how could it not be crisp and sweet?

"What?" Pei Hang asked Xu Mo in disbelief, "You're saying... the apple I ate was bitten by Xiao Mei?!"

Xu Moran couldn't bear to look at Pei Hang's expression, so she looked away and reluctantly nodded, "Yes."

.

Pei Hang's hand holding the apple trembled, and the apple, which he wasn't holding very firmly to begin with, fell to the ground with a thud. The office floor was covered with a thin carpet, and after the apple landed on the carpet, it rolled forward and landed right in front of Xiao Mei's dog paw.

Whether it was out of revenge for Pei Hang's wrongful accusation or simply because she was greedy, Xiao Mei took a bite of the apple at her feet.

What angered Young Master Pei even more was that Xiao Mei, being a dog, acted as if she found him dirty, rolling the apple halfway around with her paws and biting the parts he hadn't touched.

Young Master Pei felt as if his already wounded heart had been struck several more times with a heavy hammer. Damn it, don't ask him how badly he was hurt.

The extent of his injury is beyond what the current positioning technologies developed by humans can describe; it has reached the heavens.

He must have been clinging to a last sliver of hope that the apple he had just eaten hadn't been bitten by Xiao Mei. Like a sprinter on his way to school, Young Master Pei rushed toward the two plastic bags placed next to the sofa.

Xu Moran had already guessed what he was going to do next, and couldn't bear to look at him anymore, so she shifted her gaze to Xu Ye.

She discovered that being good-looking is an advantage; no matter how upset she was, just looking at Xu Ye's picturesque face would make everything seem better.

A beautiful woman is not just a woman; since ancient times, beauty has been a gender-neutral concept.

Xu Ye could see her nervousness and knew she was afraid that Pei Hang might get really angry and refuse to let his so-called neurology expert colleague diagnose her. He took her hand back into his palm and gently patted the back of her hand to comfort her.

Beside the sofa, Young Master Pei had completely abandoned any of the proper manners and refinement expected of a scion of a noble family, practically sprawling out and frantically rummaging through two plastic bags.

His speed was so fast that you could feel it from the squeaking sound of the plastic bag.

Young Master Pei quickly quieted down, and the sound of plastic bags no longer echoed in the office. Time seemed to stand still, and the office was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.

Xu Moran felt that this stalemate couldn't go on forever. Looking back, it was indeed their fault that Pei Hang had mistakenly eaten the apple that Xiao Mei had bitten. After all, it was she and Xu Ye who came to Pei Hang's door asking for his help. Carrying fruit in their hands, it was hard not to make people misunderstand that it was a small token of their help.

Since the misunderstanding had already occurred, and Pei Hang was so depressed that he didn't even dare to lash out, she felt it wasn't necessary, but rather essential, for her to explain.

With one problem after another, she was worried that if anything else went wrong and was out of her control, Pei Hang would jump up and accuse her of bringing Xu Ye and Xiao Mei to cause trouble and ruin the event.

“Dr. Pei…” Xu Moran couldn’t imagine what Dr. Pei’s reaction would be now, not only because of her words but also because she personally checked the bag and confirmed that the apple he had just eaten was indeed bitten by a dog. She mustered up her courage and looked towards the sofa.

A dejected, utterly dejected man sat on the ground, facing away from her.

Xu Moran was silent for a moment, then called out to Pei Hang again, "Dr. Pei, are you alright?"
