Chapter 53 Maintaining Virtue

Xu Moran felt his voice suddenly go silent. He opened his mouth, but it took him a long time to utter a sound. "I should have thought of that earlier. People who don't follow the usual path will definitely have different sleep patterns than ordinary people, even when they have insomnia."

“So…” Xu Ye brought the spoon to Xu Moran’s lips again, “Ranran, for the sake of not having insomnia, you should just give in to me.”

Look at what he's saying, and the tone he's deliberately using—what does "go with him" even mean? It's as if he, a rich young master, is harassing Xu Moran, a respectable woman.

Xu Moran recalled that when she was in high school, the teacher asked the students about their ideals. Everyone had their own ideals, so although the answers from the students who stood up to answer were varied, they were all ambitious.

One girl's answer left a deep impression on Xu Moran, and she has not forgotten it even after so many years.

Because her ideal was this: From childhood to adulthood, my ideal was to become a pretty and virtuous woman, carrying a small bundle, and being harassed by the son of a wealthy landowner on the street.

The teacher was so angry she almost fainted, and the students burst into laughter; she still remembers it vividly to this day.

"I drank the soup." Xu Moran asked uncertainly, "Are you sure you won't have insomnia anymore?"

Xu Ye thought for a moment, "I can't guarantee that, but I'm sure of one thing: if you don't drink it, I'll definitely have insomnia."

Since things had come to this point, Xu Moran had no choice but to drink the soup, for the sake of the money in his pocket and the savings he had accumulated over the past three years in his bank account.

Xu Ye was very satisfied with Xu Moran's cooperation. After feeding her another bite, he seemed to remember something and asked Xu Moran, "Ranran, is there something you want to tell me?"

Xu Moran swallowed the soup in her mouth and asked him in return, "What do you want me to tell you?"

Xu Ye feigned shyness and said, "For example, praise my cooking skills."

Xu Moran rested his chin on his hand, met Xu Ye's gaze, and said seriously, "There's a reason why I didn't praise you."

Xu Ye looked interested. "Ranran, what's the reason? Tell me quickly."

Xu Moran blinked, removed her hand from her chin, and placed her hands on the dining table in a crossed position. "I'm afraid that if I praise your cooking skills, you'll become arrogant and complacent, which would be detrimental to you."

Xu Ye suddenly realized and said, "So, Ranran is thinking about me every moment. Ranran, you are so good."

Now, Xu Moran really didn't know how to respond. She sighed softly, took out a tissue to wipe her mouth, and got up from the table. "You eat quickly, I'll go wash some fruit, and we'll take it with us on the way."

Xu Ye asked her excitedly, "Ranran, are we going to see a movie?"

Xu Moran turned to look at Xu Ye, her eyes conveying the same message: "Kid, you're overthinking it." She showed no mercy, directly shattering Xu Ye's illusions. "After you finish eating, we'll take Xiao Mei to the pet shop at the entrance of the community."

After Xu Moran finished speaking, he went to the kitchen. Soon, the sound of the refrigerator being turned on and the tap water running could be heard from the kitchen.

In the living room, Xiao Mei felt a sense of crisis. As a dog, she tried her best to minimize her presence. Fortunately, her owner didn't cause her any trouble.

Xu Moran washed an apple for both her and Xu Ye quickly. Xu Ye also ate quickly. When she saw Xu Moran come out of the kitchen, she stood up from the table and said, "Ranran, I'm done eating."

Xu Moran glanced at the dining table and noticed that he had barely eaten anything. She asked him, "How come you're full already? You barely ate anything."

Xu Ye glanced quickly at the dining table, a shy expression appearing on his ridiculously handsome face. "Ranran, since you've already found out, I won't hide it from you anymore. I fed you soup earlier, now it's your turn to feed me. We're Chinese, after all, and we have the responsibility and obligation to continue to carry forward the Chinese virtue of reciprocity."

Xu Moran took several deep breaths before finally refraining from pinching Xu Ye's cheeks to see just how thick they were.

“Young man.” Xu Moran did not agree with him, but sneered, “You may have forgotten that Chinese virtues are not only about reciprocity, but also about self-reliance. So, young man, it’s just a meal, such a simple thing, you should do it yourself.”

Xu Ye looked at Xu Moran and sighed deeply, "Ranran, now that you say that, I feel like I'm definitely going to have trouble sleeping tonight."
