Chapter 73 Such an expensive cell phone

Xu Moran was unaware that Xu Xiusen had made up his mind to adopt her as his goddaughter. All she knew was that she could have taken the subway to the Western restaurant, but Xu Xiusen had kept her talking for so long that the subway was clearly too late. (Latest and fastest updates, free reading)

Xu Moran walked to the roadside to hail a taxi. It wasn't rush hour, and since the police station was in the city center, she quickly got a taxi. After getting in, she told the driver where she wanted to go and then took out her phone.

Today's taxi driver was a middle-aged man in his fifties. While waiting for the green light, he glanced into the rearview mirror.

Seeing Xu Moran looking down at her phone, he couldn't help but meddle, saying, "Young lady, don't always be glued to your phone. I think the way people hold their phones now is just like how our ancestors held opium a hundred years ago. The harm that phones do to people is definitely no less than that of opium."

Xu Moran didn't entirely agree with what the driver said. It's not that cell phones are bad; after all, they make communication between people more convenient, and it's also very timely to look up information.

Everything in this world has two sides; the key is how you weigh the proportion of so-called good and bad.

Xu Moran uses his phone primarily for communication purposes, and only occasionally for data-related apps.

The reason she checked her phone as soon as she got in the car was because she felt it was inconvenient for Xu Ye not to have a phone. She couldn't reach him if she wanted to, and since she would have to buy one sooner or later anyway, she might as well check the phone model and buy one for Xu Ye sooner.

Xu Ye had told her about the phone brand, something like Wei, but she couldn't remember it at all. That's why you shouldn't buy off-brand phones; even the names are so hard to remember.

If there's a quality issue, you won't even know where to get it repaired.

Xu Moran was in a hurry to get to work in the morning and didn't ask Xu Ye where he had heard about that Wei something-or-other phone.

Index finger typed and deleted on Baidu on the phone, but still couldn't remember the brand Xu Ye mentioned. Automatically, the brain filled in the gaps: Xu Ye must have seen that Wei something mobile phone ad on the new TV he bought yesterday.

Moreover, that mobile phone advertisement was one of those shady TV sales ads that aired at midnight.

It's all her fault for sleeping too soundly last night; otherwise, she would definitely have stopped him if she saw him watching inappropriate advertisements in the middle of the night.

"Young lady," the taxi driver, speaking in a standard B city dialect, continued to persuade Xu Moran, "Stop playing on your phone and chat with me."

Xu Moran looked at the driver and asked, "Sir, have you ever heard of a mobile phone brand called Wei something?"

Taxi drivers carry passengers from all over the country every day, some rich and some poor, so they are quite knowledgeable. Xu Moran couldn't even find the answer on Baidu, so she asked the taxi driver with a bit of hope.

The driver looked up at Xu Moran in the back seat through the rearview mirror. "Young lady, is the phone brand you want to ask about Vertu?"

Xu Moran thought for a moment, "Yes, it's called Weitu."

The driver glanced at Xu Moran again in the rearview mirror, his gaze unusual, which surprised Xu Moran.

Did her face suddenly change?

That's unlikely.

She doesn't have any special abilities that allow her to change however she wants.

"Driver," Xu Moran asked the driver, "do I have something on my face?"

Otherwise, why would he look at her so strangely, making her feel uneasy?

The driver let out a sigh that encapsulated his rich life experience, "Young lady, do you know what a Vertu phone is?"

Xu Moran shook his head. "I've never heard of it. A friend asked me to buy it for him. I don't know where to buy such an obscure brand."

She had barely finished speaking when the driver burst into laughter. "Young lady, I'm sorry, but I didn't mean to look down on you by asking your next question."

Xu Moran said without minding, "Master, it's alright, go ahead and ask."

The driver glanced into the rearview mirror again, this time looking at Xu Moran more to make sure she was seated securely.

"Young lady," the driver asked Xu Moran, "what's your opinion on the price range for Vertu phones?"

Without hesitation, Xu Moran replied, "It shouldn't be too expensive."

When she asked Xu Ye to choose a phone, he suggested a brand she'd never heard of before. He didn't choose an Apple, the brand that people would sell a kidney to buy, which already made her very happy. Xu Ye had finally learned to be frugal.

Soon, the driver ruthlessly shattered her hopes, saying, "Young lady, if a Vertu phone, which costs at least 680,000 yuan, doesn't seem too expensive to you, then it really isn't that expensive. It also means that you're not just rich."

"What?" Xu Moran realized his voice had risen considerably and, after apologizing to the driver, quickly asked, "Sir, you're not joking with me, are you?"

A mobile phone costs 680,000 yuan, and that's the cheapest model?

The driver snorted, "Little girl, take a good look at me. Do you think I'm some kind of bad guy who enjoys swindling young girls like you?"

Xu Moran had no time to pay attention to the driver's displeasure. She opened Baidu on her phone again and quickly typed in "Vitu".

Soon, many results popped up on the phone screen.
