Chapter 180 It's Not the Truth

Because of Du Yunfang, Fang Min didn't dare to go to Fang Wanxin herself, but instead sent a trusted confidant.

His confidant found Fang Wanxin and, as Fang Min had instructed, talked to her. He thought Fang Wanxin would come back to X City with him, but to his surprise, she refused outright.

Fang Min was surprised by Wanxin's decision, not only by Fang Min's confidants but also by Fang Min herself.

Although Fang Wanxin didn't grow up under his watchful eye, his mother would occasionally give him photos of Fang Wanxin, and they would also talk on the phone once a week.

It could be said that Fang Wanxin is not much different from those who grew up around him.

Her personality wasn't very like his; she was more like her mother, who had died many years ago. His blind wife was a strong-willed person. Back then, she fell ill from anger after learning that he and Du Fangyun were having an affair, and eventually died young.

He thought that Fang Wanxin, like her mother, couldn't tolerate any imperfections in her relationships, but he never expected... that she would insist on staying by Xiao Qinghan's side.

Does loving someone really mean you can forgive everything about them, including betrayal?

This was Fang Wanxin's decision. Although Fang Min strongly disagreed, she couldn't very well tie her up and take her back to X City, so the matter was left unresolved.

It wasn't until one day, when Fang Min was on a business trip and passed through B City, that she personally went to the Xiao family to find Fang Wanxin.

At that time, news had already spread that Fang Wanxin was pregnant. He saw Fang Wanxin at the Xiao family home and also saw her slightly protruding belly.

As Fang Wanxin's biological father, he still needs to make his stance clear. He wants Fang Wanxin, who is all alone in B City, to know one thing: even if she is pregnant with Xiao Qinghan's child, it doesn't matter, the Fang family will always stand behind Fang Wanxin.

In other words, I wanted her to know that she should never compromise herself just because she was pregnant. The word "compromise" can be used in many aspects, but it should never be used in marriage.

Once compromise is adopted in a marriage, the person who chooses to compromise will live in misery for decades to come.

Looking at Fang Wanxin's face, which resembled his deceased wife who had passed away many years ago, his guilt deepened.

If Fang Wanxin says now that she doesn't want to continue her relationship with Xiao Qinghan and doesn't want to force this marriage because of the child in her belly, he will immediately take her back to X City.

As for how to explain things to Du Fangyun after arriving in X City, he hadn't thought that far ahead; he'd just take it one step at a time.

Fang Wanxin was, after all, his own flesh and blood. If he were a human being, he couldn't just stand by and watch her suffer in this hellhole.

Fang Wanxin rejected his proposal, unwilling to leave the Xiao family or return to X City with him.

The conversation between the father and daughter instantly reached a stalemate. Fang Min was furious at Fang Wanxin's stubbornness, but she couldn't vent her anger. She had to swallow her anger, and her chest heaved violently.

At this moment, Xiao Qinghan, who should have been handling official business at the Xiao family, suddenly returned, carrying with her a bag of high-quality tea, a specialty of B City.

Fang Min likes to drink tea, which is known to anyone who knows him even slightly.

Xiao Qinghan called him "Dad" very enthusiastically and made him tea with great care.

There are many things that men shouldn't say in front of Fang Wanxin, so Xiao Qinghan took Fang Min to his study on the second floor of the villa.

In the study, the two men talked for a long time.

As Fang Wanxin's father and Xiao Qinghan's father-in-law, Fang Min naturally questioned Xiao Qinghan about why she had a woman outside, and why that woman had already given birth to a child.

Xiao Qinghan did not shy away from the mistake, and apologized sincerely and humbly.

Fang Wanxin refused to leave the Xiao family no matter what, and Xiao Qinghan also realized his mistake. No matter how much he was Fang Wanxin's biological father, he couldn't say anything more.

He didn't drink a sip of tea. He left the study, went downstairs, chatted with Fang Wanxin for a few more minutes, and then left.

The next time they met was when Xiao Anhe was three or four years old, when Fang Wanxin took him back to X City.

Later, until Fang Wanxin passed away, he and her father never saw each other again.

The first half, about Fang Wanxin and Xiao Qinghan's childhood sweetheart story, was told to Xiao Qinghan by Fang Wanxin, while the second half was told to Xiao Anhe by Fang Min.

After he finished speaking, he let out a long sigh.

That long sigh carried a complex mix of emotions, so much so that even Fang Min herself probably couldn't discern the truth.

Xiao Anhe had a question for Fang Min, "Grandpa, when you saw my father that time, did you notice anything unusual about him?"

To him, the name Xiao Qinghan is synonymous with his biological father. He hasn't yet figured out the true relationship between the two identical men in the photo, so he can only refer to the man who appears as Xiao Qinghan as his father.

Fang Min replied without hesitation, "No, I've met your father twice. The first time was when he came to X City to propose to your mother, and the other time was when your mother was pregnant with you. I happened to be on a business trip to B City and met him there."

As he finished speaking, he picked up his teacup and took a small sip. This seemingly ordinary action, however, was interpreted by Xiao Anhe as a sign of guilt.

Just now, when Fang Min said those words, he kept looking into his eyes, his gaze shifting, clearly showing his guilty conscience. Coupled with the action of drinking tea, it was even more to cover up his guilty conscience.

Xiao Anhe knew that Fang Min definitely knew something, but for some reason, she couldn't tell him.

Since Fang Min refused to talk, no matter how much he asked, he wouldn't get anything out of her. He would have to find out the truth himself.

"Grandpa." Xiao Anhe stood up from his chair. "If there's nothing else, I'll head back now."

Fang Min called out to him, "An He, wait a minute."

Xiao Anhe turned to look at Fang Min, "Is there anything else?"

“When your mother learned about her illness, she called me,” Fang Min said. “She was afraid that after she passed away, your father’s mistress would take over and harm you, so she asked me to change your photo in the household registration system.”
