Chapter 239: Mutual concessions

Chapter 239: Mutual concessions

Dormitory beds are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Later students didn’t have much choice.

But there are exceptions, not everyone can accept such an arrangement.

For example, the last female comrade who came in found that only the upper bunk was left, and her face instantly darkened.

She pulled her mother's sleeve and started acting coquettishly.

The others in the dormitory exchanged glances.

Although no one pointed it out, everyone had already formed a judgment in their hearts.

She asked her daughter with a hint of helplessness, "Which bed do you want to sleep in? The bottom bed is gone now, why don't you just make do with this one for now?"

The woman glanced around the dormitory.

Suddenly, her gaze stopped and she raised her finger.

"I want that one!"

"The one next to the table has the best location and the brightest light. I want that one!"

Ruan Chuxia was tidying up the textbooks on the table with her head down.

Hearing this, he just glanced at the other person lightly, then lowered his head and continued to organize his things.

Xiao Zhiyu stood in the corner, staring coldly at the girl and her mother.

He originally just came to see Ruan Chuxia, but he didn't expect to encounter such a farce as soon as he entered the door.

He said nothing, just watched quietly.

He understood Ruan Chuxia's personality and knew that she was not someone who could be easily bullied.

The girl was a little unhappy when she saw Ruan Chuxia ignored her.

He walked over and reached out to pull Ruan Chuxia's quilt.

"I want this bed, you can sleep on it."

Her mother also looked as if it was a matter of course.

"Girl, my daughter likes to move around when she sleeps, and I'm afraid she'll fall off the upper bunk. You seem quite well-behaved, so why don't you switch?"

It was clearly a discussion, but there was no room for negotiation in the tone.

Ruan Chuxia was not afraid of this and pulled the quilt back.

"You misunderstood. I like to toss and turn when I sleep, too."

After saying that, he continued to fiddle with his book without even looking up.

The girl didn't expect to be pushed back so decisively, and her face flushed red.

"Mom, look at her attitude!"

Her mother frowned and took a step forward.

"Classmate, my daughter is weak and it's really inconvenient for her to go to the upper bunk. Besides, she has a lot of stuff, and there's a table over here that's convenient. Can you please make it easier for her? We can give her some compensation."

She paused and added, "We're all here to learn. Let's give each other a break. Why take it so seriously?"

Ruan Chuxia turned around.

"Dormitory beds are first-come, first-served. I bought this table myself. Rules are rules. If it's inconvenient for her, she can ask the school to change it. There's no reason for me to give up the seat I've already reserved."

As soon as these words were spoken, the mother's face changed immediately.

Her tone suddenly rose.

"What do you want? I already said I'll pay you, just tell me the amount!"

Ruan Chuxia just smiled lightly and didn't even look at her.

The mother gritted her teeth and finally suppressed her anger.

Then she went to talk to the other three girls in the lower bunk.

She smiled at each of them, gave them money and used sweet words to try to persuade them to change beds.

Who would be willing to put themselves through so much trouble just for the convenience of others?

Finally, after a series of setbacks, the aunt's face darkened.

With a cold face, she grabbed her daughter's arm and turned away.

A girl muttered quietly, "From her accent, she's probably from Beijing. Maybe her family has some connections. Maybe she knows someone at school?"

Another girl shrugged nonchalantly. "So what if she knows the teacher? We haven't done anything wrong, and we haven't taken advantage of anyone. It doesn't matter who she moves in with. The dormitory assignments are made by the school, and it's not her place to change them."

Not long after, the aunt came in with a middle-aged woman who looked like a teacher.

The teacher's gaze finally fell on Ruan Chuxia who was folding clothes.

"Are you the student who doesn't want to change beds?"

Xiao Zhiyu didn't go far and watched everything coldly.

He frowned and turned away.

After a while, he walked in with a slightly plump middle-aged man.

"Director Zhang?"

Teacher Huang didn't expect that the incident would alarm the school leaders, and he was at a loss for a moment.

Director Zhang nodded and glanced at everyone present.

His tone was neither hurried nor slow.

"Teacher Huang, I just heard there was a quarrel in the dormitory, and it even involved a teacher to mediate?"

Teacher Huang suddenly became embarrassed and stammered as he explained.

"Director Zhang, here's the situation... This child is weak, and the doctor recommends avoiding high places, so the parents want to discuss switching positions with the roommate below them. We're all classmates, so it's only natural to look out for them."

Director Zhang frowned and his voice became a little deeper.

"Teacher Huang, how are dormitory beds allocated? Aren't there any rules? The allocation plan is a coordinated one, and it's not something that can be changed just because someone wants to. The school has a system, and we can't break the rules just because of the special requests of individual families."

Teacher Huang's heart skipped a beat and he quickly changed his words.

"Yes, yes, it's my fault. I wasn't thoughtful enough and didn't follow the rules. This time, I was definitely wrong. I will strictly follow the rules in the future and never make decisions on my own again."

Director Zhang glanced at him coldly and spoke in a stern tone.

"Rules aren't just for show. Teachers should set an example by abiding by them, because your every word and action directly impacts students' understanding of the rules. If everyone moves beds around at will like this, where will discipline exist? Is that still management?"

As soon as he finished speaking, he turned and left.

Xiao Zhiyu followed with a calm expression.

Teacher Huang stood there, feeling mixed emotions.

He glared at the parent as he left.

"Aren't you deliberately trying to cause trouble for me? Why did you choose this time instead of earlier? You even alarmed Director Zhang. Isn't this embarrassing for me?"

The aunt was originally trying to cheat, but even her backer left with a cold face, and she immediately lost all her momentum.

She had no choice but to drag her daughter along with her, looking dusty and dirty.

"Stop messing around and climb onto your upper bunk!"

The girl was so angry that she threw the pillow hard onto the bed.

Her voice was sharp: "I don't want to live here anymore! I want to change! I can switch to another class! Anyway, I don't want to share a room with these people!"

Unfortunately, after making a fuss for a long time, no one paid any attention to her.

Naturally, I didn't get to change my dormitory. Before I even submitted the application, it was suppressed invisibly.

Xiao Zhiyu appeared at the door again only after everyone in the dormitory arrived.

"Asha, come out for a moment."

Ruan Chuxia was staring happily at the girl across from her who was throwing things on the upper bunk.

As soon as he heard Xiao Zhiyu's voice, he turned around quickly.

Xiao Zhiyu slightly turned sideways and moved closer to Ruan Chuxia.

"Just study here with peace of mind and don't think too much. I'll come to see you in a couple of days after I finish my classes and arrangements there. It won't be too long." He has also been taking classes recently and his schedule is full.

Ruan Chuxia felt reluctant to leave, and looked up at him with eyes full of attachment.

She suppressed her emotions and nodded slightly.

"Okay, I understand. You...you have to take care of yourself too."

Xiao Zhiyu stood there, reluctant to leave.
