Chapter 199 The Imperial Palace
Xuan Gou Chen and Qin Guan looked at each other and realized that General Chen was ready to take action.
"Report—"
A soldier stumbled in, holding a battle report high above his head.
"What happened?" General Chen put down the sword in his hand and looked at him with a frown.
The soldier opened his mouth but couldn't say anything. General Chen suddenly had a bad feeling in his heart and snatched the battle report away.
As he approached the soldier, he seemed to smell a faint smell of blood, but the battle report in his hand did not allow him to think too much.
After reading the battle report, General Chen's frown relaxed and he kicked the soldier in frustration.
"Since it's good news, why are you so panicked?"
"You really don't look like my Chen family army at all."
He read the battle report over and over again, with an unstoppable smile on his face.
He didn't notice at all that the soldier kneeling below had trembling lips and was looking at him with a guilty look.
Feng Tianning felt something was wrong, but he didn't know what was going on.
General Chen smiled with satisfaction and said:
"Good, they have taken control of Kyoto."
"Looks like I should set off too."
After saying that, he didn't care about the soldiers who lowered their heads and dared not look at him. He picked up the sword on the table and strode out of the study.
It was not until he walked away that Feng Tianning and the others saw the soldier slowly raise his head with a smile on his face, no longer showing the fear he had just shown.
They looked at each other and saw the solemnity in each other's eyes.
Walk.
Feng Tianning mouthed the words to the other two people.
Xuan Gou Chen and Qin Guan nodded and hurriedly followed Feng Tianning.
After leaving the study, General Chen did not hesitate and rode his horse directly, and rushed towards the Beimang Palace with a few guards.
Feng Tianning and the other two hurriedly used their spiritual power to follow behind.
Three horses died from running before General Chen arrived at the gate of Kyoto within an hour.
Xuan Gou Chen and Qin Guan followed behind breathlessly, waving their hands weakly, and whispered with their hands on their hips:
"Tianning, I can't do it anymore. My legs are weak from running."
"Yes, Grandma, how come General Chen doesn't seem to feel tired at all? We feel like our spiritual energy is almost exhausted."
Feng Tianning also glanced at General Chen, then sat down under the nearest tree.
"Let's take a break."
"They don't seem to be in that much of a hurry to get into town."
Xuan Gou Chen and Qin Guan looked at General Chen and found that he had also stopped and sat down less than fifty meters away from them.
He whispered a few words to the deputy general beside him. The deputy general looked towards the city gate, picked up the weapon at hand and walked over.
"They are..."
"General Chen is a cautious person. How could he come to Kyoto alone like this?"
"I guess this deputy general went to explore the way for him."
Xuan Gou Chen said with some doubt:
"With an army of over one hundred thousand, can't he take down a capital without an emperor?"
"General Chen is being too cautious."
Qin Guan also nodded and added: "Even if we can't take Kyoto, General Chen is still the master of this dream."
"If he really wanted to be emperor for once, he could achieve it with just a thought. Why would he go through so much trouble?"
Before they could figure it out, the deputy general ran back.
"General... Your Majesty, the city has been taken control by our people."
"I took over with the other generals, and they said the Imperial City had also been taken over."
The concubines and princes are all in the hall at this moment, just waiting for His Majesty's decision.
General Chen's face showed a little more satisfaction, and his voice was full of determination:
"In that case, let's go take a look at the Beimang Palace."
He slowly stood up, dusted himself off, and climbed onto his horse.
Feng Tianning and the others looked at each other and followed tacitly.
The deputy general was right. The entire city of Kyoto was covered in blood, and the doors of every household were tightly closed, as if they were hiding from something.
Along the way, there were no living people except for a few General Chen guards.
General Chen did not ride at full speed like before, but instead slowed down and walked step by step in the city.
He closed his eyes, as if recalling something, and after a long while he slowly spoke: "After so many years, I am back."
He rode his horse slowly to the entrance of the palace, and what he saw was a dense pile of corpses.
There were palace maids, eunuchs, and even a few people who looked like concubines.
After walking for an unknown amount of time, a plaque suddenly appeared before their eyes. It was too far away, so they couldn't see clearly what was written on it.
Without waiting for everyone to react, General Chen drew his sword and threw it at the plaque with all his strength.
"Bang—"
There was a loud noise, and the plaque broke into pieces.
The general beside him hurriedly picked up the sword and presented it to him respectfully.
"Let's go see the old friend."
Feng Tianning and the other two followed him into the main hall. Dozens of concubines and people dressed as princes and princesses huddled in a corner.
The moment they heard the noise outside, they all raised their heads.
When they saw General Chen's face, they all looked more terrified. Someone screamed first, and then several palace servants fainted.
General Chen sneered and slowly walked up to the man huddled in the innermost area.
He kicked the man to the ground, his voice full of coldness:
"Your Highness, it's been many years since we last met. I hope you are well."
The prince raised his head in confusion, looked at General Chen's face and thought carefully, but he couldn't figure out who he was for a long time.
"You...you are so bold that you dare to rebel."
"Do you know that this is a grave crime punishable by the death of nine generations of your clan?"
Hearing this, General Chen burst out laughing, a smile slowly appearing on the corners of his mouth, but his eyes were full of murderous intent.
"Punish the nine clans?"
"Hasn't my nine clans been killed by you?"
Here we go! Storytelling after the villain's success!
Qin Guan and Xuan Gou Chen looked at each other and saw curiosity in each other's eyes.
Feng Tianning also pricked up his ears and listened carefully, afraid of missing anything.
What General Chen said at this moment must be his obsession.
The prince looked at him blankly, but was slapped hard by General Chen in return.
"Why, Your Highness, you are so forgetful that you have forgotten my sister and my wife so quickly?"
The prince was stunned for a moment, then shouted in disbelief:
"You are the general going to Xuancheng!"
"Do you know that treason is a capital crime?"
There was a hint of coldness in General Chen's eyes.
"You originally left my sister and wife in Kyoto in order to get me to go to Xuancheng as this so-called undercover agent, using the excuse that you were afraid I would defect to the Great Cang Nation."
"I thought you would take good care of them, but I didn't expect that I would be the one who sent them to the tiger's mouth."
