Chapter 143

"What should we do?" A blond boy stayed in the dark room. He hadn't left the room and walked onto the street for a long time. Not only him, but his whole family hadn't done that.

The boy shouted to his parents, "Mom! There is no food at home!"

The woman stood by the table, holding the only two pieces of black bread left in the house in her hands. She frowned. Compared with her son, the adults were more nervous. She didn't say anything, but could only put the larger piece of bread on her son's plate in silence.

The boy didn't care about the woman's actions. He walked towards the dining table and his voice gradually became louder: "Aren't you in a hurry?!"

"We can't stay here any longer!"

The woman understood what her son meant. She grabbed his arm in fear and shook her head, saying, "No, no, didn't you see that day? Someone tried to rush out! He was beaten to death by that woman!"

"She just raised her hand, it was so far away! She beat him to death!"

"They will kill people!"

The boy turned to look at his father again: "Dad!"

The man sat on the chair with his head down. He had obviously given up struggling. He said in a hoarse voice: “Let’s stay here for now. They can’t kill us all.”

The young man said angrily: "They don't have to kill us. In a few days, we will starve to death. They don't even need to do anything."

The young man said angrily: "Who the hell are they? Why are they here to harm us?"

The woman and her husband looked at each other.

Their family has been in this town for seven years. The boy almost grew up in this town. To him, this town is his home.

He would occasionally go out with his companions and bring back children from the neighborhood.

However, the woman and her husband still remembered the orders from the guards and did not dare to attack anyone nearby.

As a result, one time, their son bypassed them and brought back a boy who was the same age as him and brought the boy in front of the guards.

It was that time that the boy got the reward and his family got a piece of meat.

It was eaten for a month after being pickled.

From then on, the boy enjoyed running outside without getting tired of it. He didn't even feel that he was doing anything bad - he felt that he had saved those poor, hungry children, so that they could live in this beautiful town in the future.

And he can also get rewards for spreading kindness.

The woman didn't dare tell her son that the people he brought back did not become townspeople and would not be able to live a good life. They would only be locked up in dark dungeons and become blood slaves for vampires to suck their blood.

She carefully "protected" her son's "kindness".

After being protected for so long, she couldn't even bring up what they were originally doing.

But women don't think they did anything wrong.

Those who became blood slaves were all poor people or goblins and dwarves. Even though there were occasionally elves and humans, their numbers were not large.

Such people would suffer even if they were alive. It would be better for them to be captured by vampires and live a life without worries about food and clothing. After all, vampires would not kill them immediately but would raise them.

The woman has always thought this way, and she can only think this way.

Seeing his parents remain silent, the boy finally couldn't help but yell, "I want to get out and reason with them! I don't believe they are all unreasonable!"

After saying that, the boy pushed open the door and ran out despite his parents' attempts to stop him.

The couple could only follow behind him. They chased him for a distance, but they could not run anymore. During this period, the food in the house had been limited to their son, and the amount they could eat was only half of what their son got.

What's more, they are old and their son is young. After two blocks, they couldn't even see the boy's back.

They all knew that the boy was running in the direction of the castle.

Although he could no longer run, and although he knew that he and his son might die there, they still walked towards the castle together.

·

Joel ran very fast. He felt that he had not run like this for a long time. No one could stop him. This small town was his home. He knew everyone here, including the auntie who would give him cookies and the old lady who would make clothes for him.

And the friends who played with him.

What did they do wrong?! Why are they treated like this!

Joel's heart was filled with passion. He was not afraid of death at all at this moment. He just wanted to find the person who occupied this town and tell him that this town was good and everyone here was kind. If the other person treated them like this, he would go to hell after he died!

He ran to the castle gate. The iron gate was closed and the walls were high. He looked for a long time but couldn't see any way to get in.

But he soon saw the tent next to the castle.

Although the tent was extremely strange, Joel, who was extremely angry, didn't care at all and rushed towards the tent.

He rushed so fast that when he saw people, it was too late to listen.

Joel closed his eyes the moment he hit her.

After a burst of pain from the collision of flesh, Joel sat down on the ground. He hissed and looked up at the opposite side.

Contrary to what he thought, the person he collided with was not a middle-aged man, but a little girl.

She had short golden curly hair and was wearing a black skirt, but the skirt was very strange as it exposed her arms and calves. Her eyes were slightly red and Joel couldn't tell whether she wanted to cry or her pupils were originally red.

But a little girl seemed to have interrupted Joel's anger. He stood up with one hand on the ground and walked towards the girl. He leaned over and asked like a gentleman, "Are you okay? Did I hurt you?"

The girl looked up at the boy's face. She seemed to have seen him before. After a few seconds, the girl called out Joel's name: "Joel."

Joel blinked. He didn't expect that the girl actually knew him.

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember ever having seen this girl before. He quickly pulled the girl aside and whispered, "Why are you here alone? Go home quickly, there are bad guys outside!"

The girl didn't seem to understand what he said, and asked in confusion: "Where are the bad guys?"

Joel felt that the girl's voice was too mature, but he didn't think much about it. After all, everyone's voice is different. Some people have naturally hoarse voices, so even if they are very young, they sound mature. It's not something particularly unusual.

"Those who controlled the town." Joel pulled the girl to the corner of the wall. He looked around and made sure that there was no one patrolling nearby before he said seriously, "They occupied the town. Although I don't know what they are going to do, I bet they must be murderous robbers."

"If they are so bad, why did you come out?" the girl asked him.

She didn't look scared at all, and there was curiosity in her eyes.

Joel was moved by her emotions and calmed down a lot. He sat on the ground, picked up a fallen leaf from the side, and played with it in his hands. He sighed: "You are still young, you don't understand, there are always some things that are more important than life."

"No matter what, I'm going to find the person who occupies this place. I'm going to tell him that he can never use fear to make us bow our heads. This is our home, and he is an invader." Joel clenched his fists.

The girl was silent for a while, looking at Joel with a look that could be described as pity.

Joel noticed the girl's gaze and was stunned: "What's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"

Girl: "Do you know what race the Duchess here is?"

Joel smiled and said, "Of course she's human. She doesn't have pointy ears, so she definitely can't be an elf."

The girl shook her head: "She's a vampire."

"The people you tricked here will all be food for her and the vampires. They will be locked in the basement and will never see the sun until they die. They can only eat rotten food every day."

"The invaders you mentioned rescued them, but out of more than a hundred people, only about thirty survived. To them, this town is hell, and you are the accomplices of the vampires."

Joel's smile froze on his face. He felt that he didn't quite understand what the girl said.

He said quickly: "No, it's impossible! I, I brought many people here, and the guards told me that they would be allocated houses and could bring their families over. As long as they come here, they can live a good life!"

The people he brought with him were all children from nearby farmers. They had not eaten a piece of meat for several years, and even with black bread they had never been full. They didn't even know what it felt like to be full.

Joel looked at the girl fiercely: "You are lying to me! You must be lying to me! You are one of them, right? You are also a robber!"

He pounced on the girl, he wanted to catch her!

But the girl just dodged sideways, and Joel missed and fell headfirst to the ground.

The girl stood beside his head and said, "Have you met them? Since you were given a house and your family, and the town is so small, you must have met them, right?"

Joel: “…”

He bit his lip so hard that it broke, and he could taste the rust in his mouth.

Joel murmured, "You're lying to me. I saved them and helped them. They... they were just too embarrassed to come see me and were just hiding from me. They must be fine! Maybe they didn't want to leave their land and didn't stay in the town."

Girl: “Then you can ask them.”

Joel looked up: "Who?"

The girl raised her hand and Joel stood up shakily. He looked in the direction the girl's finger was pointing and saw his parents who had been following him all the way.

His parents were standing not far away, and they should have heard his conversation with the girl.

Joel saw his mother covering her mouth with one hand, crying silently.

He suddenly understood.

He looked at his parents helplessly, then at the girl.

The girl did not lie. He had never saved anyone, nor had he ever given those he had "helped" a full meal.

Instead, he was the one dragging them into hell.

Joel was completely exhausted. This time there was no collision or fall. His legs went limp and he fell straight to his knees.

Those pairs of eyes full of expectation appeared before him.

He remembered what he had said to them:

"Our town is very good. As long as you work hard, you can have enough to eat."

“We will also divide the houses.”

"The Duke is a good man. He doesn't care about anything. He is a kind man."

What else?

He also said:

"Come with me, I'll take you in."
