Xia Youyou's hands were covered with jewels, and a string of Dongzhu Buddhist beads hung on her wrist.
She looked at his hand intently, her eyes widening instantly. "What is this?"
"Night-shining pearl."
This is a night-shining pearl as big as Xia Youyou's fist, but it looks so small when held in Qi Siling's hand.
She put down the jewelry in her hand and took the night pearl from him.
This thing didn't seem to be worth much in later generations; it was just a kind of fluorite. But she loved it! She wanted to own it! She looked up at Qi Siling, her eyes darting around, confused and conflicted.
Seeing her so lively, Qi Siling wanted to pinch her face. He stood there calmly, waiting for her to come up with some tricks.
Xia Youyou bit her lip, turned her back, reached into her bag, and took out the yellow croaker that he had been given in exchange for food.
"Hey! Don't say I'm cheating you! I'll exchange this with you!" Yellow stuff is much more valuable than fluorite!
He hadn't expected her to think this way, and he was a bit amused and didn't bother to understand how she pulled the dirty stuff out of her bag. "All these in the box are yours. You don't have to give me this. Take them all!"
She shook her head vigorously. "No, I'll only trade you for this!" She held the night-shining pearl, her expression serious. Just because she liked looking at shiny things didn't mean she wanted them. She could collect them slowly on her own; it wasn't something she could get for nothing.
She held the big yellow croaker in her hand and held it in front of him, but seeing that he still refused to take it, she had no choice but to put down the night pearl.
Qi Siling had no choice but to take it from her hand and put the night pearl back into her hand.
"Exchange! Whatever you say, exchange! And these? Don't you like them too? You can exchange them for the yellow stuff too."
"No, I'll just take a look." She was content. "Don't think I'm cheating you, you'll know later if I'm taking advantage of you." Exchanging yellow goods for fluorite, you're the one who's at a disadvantage, okay?
Thinking about how he only exchanged a box of yellow goods for such a small amount of food, she felt a little guilty. Hahahaha... Never mind, I'll return it to him when I have the chance!
"Okay, put these back. Don't take them out to exchange for food easily. They will definitely be very valuable in the future!" They are just worthless now, but they will be out of reach in the future!
Qi Siling did as he was told, put the yellow croaker into the box, and turned inside.
Half an hour later, the two of them appeared in the main hall. Xia Youyou happily swung the night pearl back and forth, while Qi Siling followed behind her, breaking out in a cold sweat, fearing that she would drop it. This thing was a gift from the previous emperor, and he didn't know whether he should tell her the truth.
Xia Youyou had no idea that she had chosen the cheapest item, but it turned out to have such a great background. But knowing it wouldn't matter. She was just trying it out for fun, and when she got tired of it, she would just throw it away.
"Cao An! Look what I have in my hand!"
"Do you want to get beaten again? You don't even call me brother?" Cao An stood up and looked down at the naughty girl who was walking towards him.
"Hey, hey, brother, come and take a look! This is fun. It can be used as a light bulb at night!"
Cao An shook his head and took the night pearl from her hand.
"You got it for free?"
"How is that possible! I traded it for a yellow croaker!" she muttered.
"That's better." He gestured for her to catch it, and the night pearl was tossed back and forth between the brother and sister.
Qi Siling almost had a heart attack watching this from behind! He closed his eyes and tried to calm himself, not looking at the two of them.
"Let's go home."
Several people got on their bicycles again and returned to the guesthouse.
"Qi Siling, Xiao Hai, let's go to the state-owned restaurant for lunch."
Xiao Hai looked at Qi Siling.
He nodded, "This meal is on me."
Cao An patted his shoulder with his big hand and said, "Give me the face and I'll treat you."
The four of them sat down in the lobby, their first meal together since they had officially met. None of them were big drinkers, so they clinked glasses with tea instead of wine.
"Thank you both for making a special trip for us today." Cao An actually admired Qi Siling. His initial wariness of him, and his current trust in him, was a huge change. It also showed that he wasn't as cold as he appeared.
"Brother Cao, there's no need to say such things. It's a rare trip for you to the capital, so we should do our best to be your hosts."
"Hey, don't be so polite, we'll just be friends from now on." Xia Youyou put her arm around Cao An's shoulder and tried to reach Qi Siling with one hand, but her arms were too short to reach both of them. She awkwardly put down her hand and tried to pat Qi Siling's hand, "We're partners now, let's make money together!" She whispered in a voice only the four of them could hear.
Everyone laughed and teased her about her eccentricity.
Finally, "We'll wait for you in Baoshi." Several people clinked their glasses, and Cao An looked serious. "Things will get better and better!"
On the fourth day after arriving in Beijing, Xia Youyou and Cao An finally boarded the train home. Xia Youyou was as excited as when she first arrived, and regardless of the strange smell in the carriage, she opened the window and leaned over it to look outside.
The train puffed its way through the magnificent mountains and rivers. The scenery along the way was so beautiful that she had no time to take in the sights. She just wished the train could go slower.
Liu Hui had been waiting at home for a long time. It was Xia Youyou's first time away from home, and she felt a little uneasy and couldn't sleep well. She didn't know where Lao Zhao got the news from these days, but knowing that Cao An and Xia Youyou were not at home, he would knock on her door from time to time, which made her very annoyed. However, she didn't want to shout too loudly and attract the neighbors to watch.
Old Zhao just knocked on the door without saying anything. When Liu Hui opened the door for the first time, she didn't know it was him. She asked him what he wanted for a long time, but Old Zhao just avoided talking about other things and never got to the point. Only then did she react and slammed the door shut.
