Xia Youyou hadn't actually intended to scare him at first, but the night pearl's light looked so eerie that she only remembered it when she reached the door. So she placed the night pearl under her neck and covered it with a scarf to avoid the huge light source from the front. She also let her hair down to cover her face, and the eerie light hit her face from her chin upwards, making her look even more terrifying.
As she got closer, she suddenly smelled a strange odor in the air. She paused and looked stiffly at his lower body. Disgust flashed in her eyes, and she didn't want to stay any longer. Just as she was about to take the Night Pearl, Lao Zhao fainted from fright.
"Well, that saves me some trouble!" I originally wanted to knock him out, but I didn't expect him to be so frightened.
She pulled off her scarf and wrapped it around her nose and mouth, then squatted down to see if he was really frightened and fainted.
He took out a mantra pill from the space and said, "You are really lucky! This thing will be very valuable in the future!"
In later times, it's unknown which god developed this drug, but once consumed, anyone would involuntarily reveal their true thoughts. Initially used on spies, it was later, and for unknown reasons, used on partners. With the rise of space exploration, everyone's hoarded supplies were known only to themselves, leading to distrust between partners. So, they used the drug on each other, forcing them to reveal what valuables they had hidden.
It was a tragic event. At a time when trust and cooperation were so crucial, the emergence of a drug like this was clearly detrimental to the current environment. Consequently, the government strictly prohibited its production, and it eventually became available on the illegal market, fetching exorbitant prices.
She just found this out of her father's space. She had only looked through half of the things in her father's space, but she thought that if she got bored in the future, she could go back and look through it again. It would be a bit like treasure hunting.
He stuffed the medicine into his mouth, watched him swallow it with the rolling sound in his throat, then let him go with disgust and left the woodshed.
She closed the door, took the night pearl to light the way ahead, and then returned the same way.
"What are you doing?"
"ah!"
Just as she reached the kitchen door, a deep male voice startled her and she almost threw the Night Pearl out.
"What are you doing? Doing something bad in the middle of the night?" Cao An steady the night pearl in her hand and sneered.
"Are you going to scare me to death and adopt another sister?" Xia Youyou's eyes turned red with fright, her heart began to beat irregularly again, and she felt her whole body beginning to feel weak. She quickly held his hand, took out a pill from the space and threw it into her mouth.
As expected, she still couldn't do bad things! She would never do bad things again!
Cao An regretted it so much at this moment. If he had known that her heart was not good, he should not have scared her. "I'm sorry, I forgot about this!" He looked at her face with annoyance, and then pulled her out of the kitchen.
After sending her to her room, he asked her.
"What were you doing in the back?"
Xia Youyou took the night pearl and returned to the bed to sit down. "I'll go give Lao Zhao some medicine."
Cao An sat down at the desk and lit the kerosene lamp with a match.
"What medicine did you take?" I didn't think it was poison, I was just curious.
"It's medicine to make him tell the truth. He's definitely up to no good, and he'll definitely bite you tomorrow!" He lay down on the bed, covered himself with the quilt, and continued, "I see his eyes rolling around. He must be thinking of something. Maybe he'll drag Mom into this tomorrow. Make him tell the truth. By the way, ask him about his work and see if he's involved in any corruption or anything."
Since Lao Zhao was able to get the job of distributing paper boxes, there must be something fishy going on.
Cao An hadn't expected her to think so much, but instead, a surge of gratitude welled up in his heart. This little girl had been helping them since she arrived, yet it was he who had been constantly asking for things from her. Whether it was space or knowledge and skills, it was only through her that he could obtain them. Cao An stood up, walked over to the bed, bent down, and tucked her in.
"Sleep well, I'll know what to do tomorrow."
He stood up and walked towards the door. "Brother will only have you as his sister, he won't adopt anyone else!"
Xia Youyou looked at him with amusement at his awkward expression, "Got it! Go to bed now, brother."
After Cao An closed the door, Xia Youyou couldn't sleep anymore. She put the night pearl she had been holding on the pillow, looked at it absent-mindedly, and fell asleep unknowingly.
The next morning, Cao didn't wake Xia Youyou up, and told her mother to let her sleep in a little longer. She was frightened last night and stayed up so late, so she definitely needed to sleep in a little longer today.
He lifted Old Zhao and placed him on the back of his bicycle. The smell of urine on him made him sick, and despite his disgust, he had to tie him up. Enduring the discomfort, he pedaled like a hot wheel, rushing to the police station.
Old Zhao was terrified last night. When he was woken up this morning, he was still a little confused. It was only when he arrived at the police station and was taken to the interrogation room that he started to react violently.
"There's a ghost... Cao An! You bastard! You actually let ghosts scare me! I just wanted to seduce your mother, is it necessary to hit me and scare me?"
The people in the interrogation room looked at each other, a little confused. Wasn’t it just stealing?
Cao An avoided suspicion and left the interrogation room, letting Dabao go in to take charge of the interrogation. With Xia Youyou's medicine, he was not afraid that he would not tell the truth, and it also saved him the trouble of getting him to admit that he had stolen.
He got back on his bike and continued to check on the greenhouse vegetables, as well as the rice seedlings that needed to be prepared.
Xia Youyou slept until she woke up naturally, tidied up and left the room, only to see Liu Hui starting to make clothes in the room again.
"Mom, don't make clothes for a long time, your eyes will be damaged."
"You're awake." Liu Hui stopped what she was doing and said, "Come on, Mom will go to the kitchen to bring you breakfast."
Xia Youyou quickly grabbed her and said, "You take a rest, I'll go by myself. Where's your brother? Why didn't you call me earlier?"
The two of them left the main room and went to the kitchen.
"Your brother told me not to call you, and he took Lao Zhao to the police station early."
Xia Youyou stood at the kitchen counter and started to eat breakfast, with a steamed bun in her mouth, mumbling a little, "If you don't call me, I still have to go to the scrap station to work!" She hadn't been to the scrap station for a few days, so it didn't matter if she was late again.
"Don't worry, take your time eating. No one cares whether you go to work or not."
That's true. She hasn't collected her salary this month yet, so she can ask her brother to take her there tomorrow.
Xia Youyou originally wanted to go directly to the scrap yard when she went out, but when she thought of Liu Chao, she changed her route and went to the black market first.
Liu Chao saw her from a distance, his face full of excitement. He had sold all his food, and when he went to the scrap yard, there was no one there, so he thought she hadn't come back yet.
"Oh, you're finally back! We've sold out. If you don't come back, we'll miss out on making money!"
Xia Youyou laughed, "You moved a lot last time, why did you sell it so quickly?"
