Chapter 646: The Furious Guanyin

Guanyin Bodhisattva was half-believing and half-doubting, so she found Tang Sanzang again and repeatedly told him that it was the Monkey King Sun Wukong who protected him on his journey to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures.

But Tang Sanzang just didn't believe it. He thought Sun Wukong was ugly and had threatened him before that he would eat him if he let him out.

So he resisted with all his might and would rather die than release Sun Wukong.

Tang Sanzang also said: "If you want to release him, you should do it yourselves. And with you here, he will be more obedient after being released. Otherwise, how can a mere mortal like me subdue this monkey?"

Guanyin Bodhisattva was troubled and warned: "Only if you release him yourself will he be grateful to you and recognize you as his master."

"If we were the ones to release him, the meaning would be completely different. It was Tathagata Buddha himself who suppressed him beneath the Five Finger Mountain, and now we are freeing him on his behalf. Should he be grateful to us, or to you?"

Tang Sanzang nodded and said, "What you said makes sense. You were bandits and bad guys, and then you let me release him and become the good guy."

The expressions of Guanyin Bodhisattva and the other two looked rather grim. They always felt that there was something else behind Tang Sanzang's words, as if he was mocking them.

But he could not find any evidence, so he could only put on the airs of a Bodhisattva and angrily scold Tang Sanzang, asking him to do things as soon as possible.

Tang Sanzang was not fooled. "You have to prove that this monkey won't hurt me before I release him."

Guanyin Bodhisattva asked, "How can this be proven?"

Tang Sanzang said, "Let me stay here for 49 days. I will reason with him. As long as I can remain safe and sound during this period, I will release him."

Guanyin Bodhisattva and others thought it made sense, and they could wait for only 49 days.

But when the 49 days were almost over, Sun Wukong started to lose his temper and asked Tang Sanzang to find excuses and reasons to start calculating the time again.
