Chapter 120 Unveiled, Tartarus
With a screeching sound of brakes, the train came to a sudden stop, and people who were standing fell to the ground in all directions, amidst a cacophony of curses and panicked cries.
"what happened?"
Everyone is asking this question, but no one can come up with a reasonable answer.
Struggling to steady myself, I looked around at the chaotic scene before me, feeling somewhat bewildered.
Soon, as if in answer to my question, a somewhat unclear voice rang out from above:
[This is an emergency announcement for all passengers: Due to a road malfunction ahead, we will be temporarily suspended. Please do not panic; we will resolve the issue and restore traffic flow as soon as possible.]
[Repeat. Inform all passengers on the train that this is an emergency announcement: Ahead...]
After a brief silence, scattered complaints erupted again.
Most of the well-dressed people were frowning and whispering. If you listened carefully, you could hear complaints like, "Damn it, I'm going to be late for work again," "This is the sixth time this has happened this month. Are the people operating the tracks just sitting around doing nothing?" and "They almost hurt me." Those with shorter tempers were already swearing, scaring the people around them into making way for them in case they got hurt by someone's swinging fist.
"Damn it! We're doomed!"
The boy sitting next to me, who had just been smiling and explaining the game's story to me, was now behaving much more intensely.
Head bowed, biting his nails, his face pale, his voice clearly tinged with anxiety: "This, this can't be my imagination... The current development is exactly the same as the opening scene in that game... Damn it, I shouldn't have come out today with such wishful thinking!"
Even though the words were only vague, they revealed a considerable amount of information.
It was an entirely predictable turn of events.
That's true. Since it's a game world, the current plot development is essentially inseparable from the game's storyline. A good game won't have too many meaningless plot points, especially at the very beginning.
After the boy explained the opening of the game [Tartarus] to me, it was almost inevitable that a replica of the game's opening would appear next to me.
"Which carriage is this?"
He suddenly reached out and grabbed me, asking a question.
Perhaps out of panic, he used tremendous force in his hand, almost squeezing me until my knuckles turned slightly white.
Unfortunately, I've been sitting in the same spot ever since I opened my eyes here, so how could I possibly understand the answer to his question?
The boy was clearly panicked. After looking around and realizing he couldn't see through the chaotic crowd, he suddenly crossed his arms and pressed them against his closed eyes, muttering softly, "Don't let it be 09-016B, don't let it be 09-016B, don't let it be 09-016B..."
"Why can't it be 09-015B?" I wondered.
"Because at the start of the game, a madman who will attack anyone he sees will appear in carriage 09-016B!"
The boy screamed instinctively, drawing the attention of everyone present.
"What nonsense is this crazy child spouting!"
As expected, a rude curse rang out from the other side.
Startled by the shout, the boy suddenly opened his eyes. Then, frightened by the attention he was receiving, he trembled and tried to shrink his neck, tugging at my sleeve as if trying to hide behind me.
"Sorry, we were just talking about games."
I calmly responded to the angry glare from the other side, while quietly suppressing the boy's impending rebuttal that "this isn't just about talking about games": "Let's not cause too much of a commotion. Also, you almost ripped my sleeve off."
Although this isn't my real body, and it's not because I'm shy, I still feel it's not very elegant to expose my body in public.
"I'm already annoyed enough by the sudden stop, don't make me beat you up!"
The infuriating middle-aged man swaggered away, brandishing his fist, and plopped down in an empty seat, leaving behind a murmur of whispers. A few were discussing the boy's words, but most were talking about the man's mental state.
Fortunately, it was just a false image, otherwise I wouldn't be in such a good mood now.
but.
"This is just the beginning."
A boy's androgynous voice drifted out from behind me.
He seemed to have rallied, and almost touching me, he kept whispering, "This is not a simple train stoppage, but the prelude to a major accident."
"As the train comes to a complete stop, a few minutes later, the plants in the distance will suddenly grow rapidly, tearing apart most of the man-made structures. Then, monsters will emerge from them. First, there will be the most common giant rats, and then the world will gradually transition towards a fantasy setting..."
"How much longer?" I interrupted his anxious mutterings.
The deep blue frame in front of me continues to remind me.
The game has not yet started. Please wait patiently.
Damn it, because of this thing, I can't even find the logout button now.
Is it the kind of system where you have to save your progress after completing a level before you can proceed to the next step? Hopefully, the tutorial levels will be easier in the future.
I had a bad feeling about this. The two words the boy had mentioned earlier kept replaying in my mind, which increased the pressure.
