If only I could ask Yao, that housekeeper, for help remotely.
Since you've read so many books in the library and seen so many strange and wonderful names, you must have some insights into how to choose a name, right?
What a pity.
Or try starting with your own name.
The idea of simply writing "Yumi" was rejected, and calling her "Mimi" would make me shy; the two syllables, no matter how they were combined, would only result in a monotonous name. However, my brother Yuel, or perhaps my father Julius, sounded like a beautiful and handsome name no matter how I looked at it.
But I wasn't shameless enough to directly use their names.
If we combine them... Yumi, Yuel... Yumiel... it's too long, but if we change the syllables and pronounce it more simply...
I finally came to the conclusion: "You can call me 'Uriel'."
"'Uriel'...?"
Her emerald-green eyes looked at me somewhat blankly, then suddenly she looked enlightened: "Is it a simplified version of Uriel, the archangel in mythology? It's not a bad name. 'The one who wields the sword of thunder and fire, judges sinners, and forever guards the gates of hell,' even considering its derivative meanings, it's still a good name."
I was too embarrassed to say that I just made it up on the spot.
However, even in a world where such magic does not exist, there are still unrealistic myths and legends.
"If only we could successfully bring about the end of Tartarus."
Ending with this sighing sentence, after traversing the dense, wildly growing forest, I finally followed Sheng to a square building whose exterior was covered in dark green vines and whose walls were slightly broken. I then walked down the blood-stained corridor.
"Even this place has been invaded..."
There were no human corpses or remains, nor the carcasses of giant rats; only scattered clothing and large patches of dripping blood were visible around them, indicating just how many casualties this sudden disaster had caused.
The only sound in the quiet corridor was the sound of our footsteps as we continued to descend. The lights above flickered on and off, as if something terrifying was brewing, or a colossal creature with lit lanterns, lurking at the end of the corridor, its full form obscured, waiting for foolish prey to walk into its trap.
I found a hand axe less than half a meter long in a box around the corner. Although I'm not used to using melee weapons, I have an advantage in melee combat now that I can't use all my magic power, rather than exhausting all the little magic power I have left.
Because in my perception, which is much farther away than what I can see, right in front of the falling iron-gray gate, three huge creatures with blood-stained fur, nearly half the height of my calf, were scratching at the gate, trying to break in. The gate, which they were scratching repeatedly, kept creaking and groaning, and it seemed that it wouldn't last much longer.
"There are three rats about fifteen meters from the corner ahead, in front of the gate," I whispered a warning.
With a slight breath, Sheng nodded gently, as if he had expected it: "I knew there was an inevitable encounter in the game. This is our final test before entering the station's safe zone."
What are you going to do?
He hesitated for a moment: "How about I try to distract them first, and then you take the opportunity to open the gate and crawl in? If we're fast enough, we should all be able to get through smoothly."
"It's too dangerous." Without hesitation, I rejected his suggestion. "You're not much energy left, are you?"
Peeking inside from close to the corner, Sheng paused for two seconds, then nodded again.
I don't know where his confidence came from, was it Agility lv7? But with only lv4 Endurance, after a series of exertions, his stamina was almost gone.
A direct confrontation might be an option, but I'm unsure if there are other giant rats lurking nearby, even if I haven't detected them yet. If I manage to lure them in when the battle begins, that would be a real problem.
"In the game, if you wait a little longer, these giant rats will leave because they can't catch any prey. But the direction they leave is the entrance we came in through, and there are even more giant rats at the other exits."
Pulling my shoulder closer, Sheng whispered a reminder: "These guys, compared to ordinary rats, have almost no special characteristics other than thick skin, toughness, and agility. They are also used to seeing in the dark and listening to all sounds within five meters."
"If possible, we should kill them here, which would also clear a passageway that we can freely enter and exit."
"Only five meters, do you understand the concept of night vision?" I confirmed again. "Can they sense magic?"
"Yes. As for magic... I don't know. I guess not."
"I have an idea."
I gestured for Sheng to raise the crowbar in his hand, close one eye, and take small steps along this side of the wall toward the back of the giant rat, while I slipped to the other side and signaled with sign language after confirming that he was in place.
As the last three people swiftly jumped over, before the giant rats, who had barely sensed anything amiss, could turn around, a small, extremely concentrated ball of flame, radiating a bright light, suddenly appeared before their eyes with a brightness that would blind them.
Ignoring the right eye, which was also tearing up from the sudden illumination, the rapidly switching eyes adapted well to the restored normal light. The accurately swung arm propelled the hand axe held tightly in both hands, easily severing the exposed nape of the neck of a giant rat standing upright in front of him.
