Chapter 131 Infiltrating the Rat's Nest

Usually, when I'm playing games, there are two types of characters I dislike the most.

Those who spout nonsense and assign tasks arbitrarily are definitely at the top of the list.

The second most prominent category is those whose actions are highly unpredictable and baffling, and whose actions can even negatively impact one's own side.

The former is my mentor.

And the latter... I'm going to add that bastard's name at the very beginning now.

...By the way, what was that bastard's name again?

Damn it, I only know his code name. Otherwise, after I leave the world of [Simulated Magic Ring], I'll definitely learn two curse spells and slap them on his forehead!

After I relayed this to Sheng, our clever trigger event log came to a conclusion after only a few seconds of contemplation, and quickly changed color after receiving the direction I pointed out.

"Damn it, that bastard's goal is the same as ours!"

He first let out a low exclamation, then turned around to meet the puzzled gazes of the two people around him, and quickly assigned the tasks that needed to be carried out: "We need to start moving as soon as possible."

"W-what? We...we still don't know what we should do."

Xiaoxi seemed a little dumbfounded by this sudden development.

On the other side, Shan, strong and robust, didn't say much. He first dismantled a wooden door, tied the two ends with strips of torn cloth and carried it on his back, then picked up several wooden sticks and baseball bats and tied them around his waist. With one hand carrying a basket of Molotov cocktails and the other hand dragging a fully loaded trailer, he led the way and looked back at us.

Looking around, Sheng had retrieved the crowbar he had taken from the train, and Xiaoxi had a crossbow and the necessary arrows. Overall, it seemed that only I was still empty-handed.

Unfortunately, I can't use the personal crevices that require most of my magic to maintain right now, and even if I could successfully use them, they probably wouldn't contain the various materials that I've stored outside.

Thinking this, I bent down and rummaged through the pile of weapons scattered around for a while, and took out a slightly curved long sword—well, it was actually a molded sword that hadn't been sharpened yet.

But this doesn't stump me.

I summoned the flames to my fingertips, then placed my palms against the sides of the blade and forcefully swiped it backward. A burst of brilliant sparks erupted, accompanied by a brief, piercing shriek, followed by a cloud of white smoke. Once the white smoke dissipated, a dazzling sharpness was revealed.

"...You actually do things like this?"

It took Sheng a while to barely pull her chin back, but her bright green eyes were still wide open, just like everyone else's, revealing her surprise.

"It's just a very simple technique."

I raised an eyebrow, weighed the longsword in my hand a couple of times, and tried to swing it: "However, this can only barely meet the needs of the moment, and at most it can only be used for self-defense. It can't compare to the sturdiness of real swords and spears. But the advantage is also obvious. As long as there are enough materials on hand, I can restore a certain minimum level of combat power in a very short time."

"No, I mean, brother, aren't you a mage? Why did you suddenly choose to use a sword..."

Sheng muttered to himself, then pulled over my hand that I had just used to temper the blade and looked at it. After confirming that there were no broken pieces or redness, he suddenly breathed a sigh of relief.

“I’ve learned a little from a friend, but I’m not very proficient, so don’t expect me to be able to fight in close combat,” I cautioned.

Sheng nodded, then briefly spoke to Juncheng and Duheng, who had rushed over after hearing the sound. After confirming that they both understood, he headed towards the passage leading to the outside world.

You have left the temporary safe zone...

As the prompt faded from view, the scenery outside was revealed.

This wasn't the place Sheng and I had entered together before, nor was it the gate opened for the four newcomers. Instead, it was the furthest point from the lobby where everyone was resting, supposedly connected to a large shopping mall via a passageway.

But the situation we see now can no longer be described as a passage.

Aside from the mountains they had seen before, the four-person team, stepping into the outside world for the first time since the world changed, held their breath and fell silent upon seeing the scene before them.

Visible bloodstains began to increase on the broken tiled floor, interspersed with a few fragments of broken building. A few giant rats lay dead in various places, some with stiffened bodies revealing the teeth marks from being gnawed, while others were still twitching weakly, emitting shrill cries in the empty, dark passage.

This is not the most distressing thing for us.

Looking up, it seemed as if the thick roots of some kind of plant had pierced through the exquisitely designed ceiling, growing wildly and then breaking through the ground again, penetrating deep beneath. Large sections of the ceiling structure had collapsed due to loss of support, and clear water gushed from underground, making the already intricate road ahead even more rugged.

It was like witnessing the end of a civilization.

Of course, there's also that madman who walked ahead of us.

No one knows exactly what he did, but in the already narrow passage, clear marks and damage left by sharp weapons can be seen everywhere.

While this did inadvertently open a passage for us, it also contained things like lampposts hanging from above. These lampposts flickered on and off, one end of them just touching the water's surface, which was constantly rippling outwards, and occasionally bursting into large bursts of electric sparks.

“That pool of water is now electrified.”
