Chapter 133 is like a tango

Chapter 133 is like a tango

I really don't want to fight melee classes, especially swordsmen.

Because under normal circumstances, doing so would cause unnecessary pain.

I don't know if this is a mild phobia of sharp objects, some kind of instinct deeply ingrained in my body, or something else, but in any case, I try to stay away from anything with a sharp edge, including my own weapons, as much as possible when it's not necessary.

I'm worried about getting cut without noticing, because my body is always very fragile.

Without setting up defensive spells or strengthening oneself with enhancement spells, a simple swipe with a thin sheet of paper can potentially cause minor cuts on the skin.

Martial artists who repeatedly hone their skills obviously wouldn't have such troubles.

Therefore, at the moment the sword light struck, I subconsciously blinked.

I lost my necessary vision, but my ever-vigilant senses, even in a suppressed state, still clearly told me everything that was happening:

The bastard in the black trench coat standing not far in front of me first stomped his left foot off the ground, then pounced on me like a hawk spreading its wings, covering most of the distance between us in less than half a breath. Then, the straight sword he had been holding so tightly began to swing in the direction of his thrust.

It's the most basic horizontal slash.

However, compared to Miyuki's usual mid-range attacks, the sword demon's sword path was lower, as if his target was my legs, while he was a lumberjack holding an axe and saw, vigorously chopping down a tough tree trunk.

At the same time, far faster than the straight sword he was wielding, came a blade of air that detached directly from the sword and flew out, displaying a translucent light gray light and shadow.

I quickly made a judgment: the existing defensive barriers alone could not completely withstand his sword attack.

This is not because the defensive barriers I set up were too weak.

If there had been a significant delay between the sword demon's strike and the released energy blade, or if it had struck two different points, I wouldn't be in such a predicament. Because that would have been just within the defensive spell's carrying capacity.

The problem is that the interval between the two sword strikes was too short, and they landed on the same spot.

I cannot completely resist it, and I will inevitably be hurt.

The moment this thought crossed my mind, I instinctively threw the sparks that had accumulated in my palm forward, then drew the molded knife strapped to my waist, gripped it tightly with both hands, and rammed it toward the intended landing point.

The next moment, I opened my eyes again.

Sparks flew toward the man's face, but could only briefly obscure his vision.

The molded knife in my hand, with its sharpened edge, collided with the incoming air blade at its weak point as expected. However, I still couldn't stop the attack because the air blade's power, which had accumulated further along its path, not only cleaved the barrier but also made my hands ache.

The sword demon's sword did not strike as expected. Instead, he deftly withdrew the sword he had half-handed over and kicked me in the stomach.

I didn't notice when he changed his tactics.

It was as if, at the same moment the barrier exploded into fragments of light and shadow, he had already turned his posture and kicked out.

It hurt a lot. My body felt light and heavy, like a tattered rag that couldn't be completely controlled. I was thrown backward until I managed to plunge my long knife into the soft mud. Amidst the jarring noise, I retreated a few meters before gradually slowing my backward momentum.

Before I could regain my footing, he charged straight at me again, brandishing his straight sword once more.

A chilling light clung to the sword's edge, its menacing aura carrying a terrifying, bloodthirsty power, as it surged towards me like a tidal wave.

A faint crimson hue swirled around him, making him look like a bloodthirsty demon—I think I understand why he gave himself that nickname.

That bastard looks like he wants to end the fight as quickly as possible.

Without a doubt, this is one of the most effective combat methods in a swordsman's battle against a mage.

But he undoubtedly chose the wrong target.

Because that only works for mages from unorthodox schools or those without much lineage.

As a mage with an academic background, although I often skip classes, I have also attended a few courses related to combat tactics, so I know a few counterattack methods that can be used in this situation.

Not to mention that I've also visited Shenxue's morning practice sessions several times these past few days.

I also know how to use these kinds of dangerous bladed weapons, even if I'm not very skilled at it.

I channeled the accumulated lightning and fire into the longsword in my hand, causing it to wrap around the blade. I slightly twisted my wrist, tilting the blade of the sword at a half-angle angle, and met the slashing attack head-on.

My strength is far inferior to this bastard in front of me, and it would be obvious that I would be at a disadvantage if I simply went head-to-head with him.

What I need to do is find a loophole in this predicament and break it using methods that only mages can do.

Sword Demon's eyes widened in surprise for the first time.

But this was only a brief moment of surprise.

His expression showed no sign of panic; he merely slightly altered the movement of his weapon, clashing it against the longsword.

It felt like I had crashed head-on into an airship.

Although I don't know the exact weight of an airship, this was definitely a very heavy attack.

My senses barely kept up with his change of tactics, but my body was too sluggish to react or make any adjustments.

As a result, they suffered repeated setbacks on this side.
